I'm a PHP developer and an app I'm working on right now generates files for users to download. The problem I'm seeing is in order to write to a folder I have to chmod it 777, obviously a bad idea.
I'm thinking the best idea is to change the folder user / group to that of apache, however after over an hour of Googleing I can not find out what user / group apache belongs to.
Thoughts? Is this the best way to go or should I do something else?
I have recently installed a LAMP server on Ubuntu 10.4 nd I would like to have the /var/www folder writeable and accessible by my other computers on the LAN. I know I have to install Samba but how do I configure it so I can map network drives to the WWW folder and allow read and write access?
I am trying to get apache:asp to work on on apache2. I have everything installed but any folder I put a asp file in apache locks me out ofere is the error I get.?localhost?refused the connection. Is there a way I can get apache to allow everything? read write browse eveything. Then after I troubleshoot asp and get it working I will start working on security.
I have a php script that I want to create a file and allow it to be downloaded. I know the dangers of chmodding a directory to 777 so I am trying to avoid this.
What I have done is logged in through ssl as root.
Navigated to the directory where the directory I want to chown is located. I then perform:
I keep my site files in an NTFS partition. When using Ubuntu, Apache gives me a forbidden 403 error when going to http://localhostI had this problem before, and if i remember correctly, to solve it I had to mount the hard drive as root when starting up, so I had this line in fstab:/dev/sda1 /media/Shared ntfs-3g quiet, defaults, locale=en_US.utf8,umask=000.But having that line there now doesn't make it work. It does mount Shared, and as root, but Apache still gives 403.
I Have Configure Samba server in Centos, I need give permission like for some user(5User) can able to read and write the particular folder, and again i need give some another user(6user) can only read permission for same folder.
1. I use RHEL5 (SERVER X) in which samba is running. This is an IBM hardware on which the vender is not allowing me to install any hardware other than IBM parts.
2. I have another P4 system on which Fedora Core 11 (SERVER Y) is running. I had connected 300GB SCSI HDD and created necessary partitions.
Now I want to mount few of the volumes of SERVER Y on SERVER X and allow users (samba clients) to access the volumes as folders as any other volumes in SERVER X through samba. I mounted one volume of SERVER Y in SERVER X using NFS mounting and shared through samba. The problem, I am facing, is it is very slow.
I am trying to attempt to set up a samba ldap PDC server.
When I try and connect a computer to the network I get error 'Username could not be found'
I have included smbldap.conf ##smbldap.conf slapd.conf ##slapd.conf the smb.conf ##smb.conf the results of slapcat ##slapcat the eriror log for log.roor ##log.root
The error I marked as interesting ##interesting , shows that it can't create the user or maybe something else. But up until that time there didn't seem to be a problem.
Is there a trick to allowing a TFTP connection to create a file? I can successfully tftfp (from a cisco router) if I touch the file first, but otherwise, (/tftpboot has been chmoded to 777) I get [TFTP: error code 2 received - 20334]
I have installed CentOS 5.5 along with the Samba package. I have it configured (i believe), but when I try to access a share, it is not accepting my UN/PW. I have copied the smb.conf file from a working computer over to this one, but it is still not accepting my login. Anyone know of any other files I should check?
I have moved a working smb.conf file to this new box, and both computers have the same UN/PW's
I'm setting up my fedora 10 server. I am currently working on samba. I have added users and created their home directories with their own html directories. I have changed their html directories to 777. However, it appears to be read-only since I cannot create files or folders within it. Can anyone please give me some ideas as to what may be causing this? Probably some extra configurations I may have overlooked? Any help would be kindly appreciated. I also created a general wshare (writable share) directory for all users within home directory but I am encountering the same problem and cannot write to it.
I have a MacBook Pro.I just got it to "mount" the recording/video folders using NFS to connect to my mythbox. Here is my /etc/exports file:
Code: /var/lib/mythtv 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0(rw,async,insecure,all_squash,anonuid=1000,anongid=1000) Here is my hosts.allow file:[code]....
I also made sure that under Settings -> Shared Folders, the "Read-only" box was unchecked.I did all this and I still cannot get the MacBook to write to the mounted folders.
I have setup a NFS server and this the content of /etc/exports at the server with IP A.B.C.D1 is:/home/shared A.B.C.D2(rw,no_root_squash)Problem is, only the root at A.B.C.D1 and A.B.C.D2 can write to that folder.
I am trying to setup my webserver and I am trying to make a website to run under suexec but somehow I cannot start my apache it directly fails and SELinux is giving me errors and don't really know what to do with it, it is giving me some command to type but not sure if this will make my server less secure. The SELinux error is as follow:
Code: Summary: SELinux prevented httpd reading and writing access to http files.
Detailed Description: SELinux prevented httpd reading and writing access to http files. Ordinarily httpd is allowed full access to all files labeled with http file context. This machine has a tightened security policy with the httpd_unified turned off, this requires explicit labeling of all files. If a file is a cgi script it needs to be labeled with httpd_TYPE_script_exec_t in order to be executed. If it is read-only content, it needs to be labeled httpd_TYPE_content_t, it is writable content. it needs to be labeled httpd_TYPE_script_rw_t or httpd_TYPE_script_ra_t. You can use the chcon command to change these contexts. Please refer to the man page "man httpd_selinux" or FAQ [URL] "TYPE" refers to one of "sys", "user" or "staff" or potentially other script types.
Allowing Access: Changing the "httpd_unified" boolean to true will allow this access: "setsebool -P httpd_unified=1"
Fix Command: setsebool -P httpd_unified=1
I will write down how I did setup my server so maybe you can see a mistake I did. First I changed my Apache httpd.conf I added the following to it: Code: NameVirtualHost 192.168.1.2:80 <VirtualHost 192.168.1.2:80> ServerName localhost DocumentRoot /var/www/html DirectoryIndex index.html index.html index.shtml index.php </VirtualHost>
Then I created the username "ulyaoth" with the group "ulyaoth" as I specified with my suexec, then I created all the directories as specified in my httpd.conf and "chown ulyaoth:ulyaoth (dirname)" them to the right group and username.
I am installing Big Brother on a CentOS 5.2 running the default Apache 2.2.3. When I try to access any web page I get the following error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /bb/ on this server. Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at fmsubbnix Port 80 So far I have:
1) Set the Directory options to FollowSymLinks 2) Verified all directory and file permissions are at 755 3) Set permissions temporarily to 777 and received same error so I am assuming the issue is in a config file somewhere 4) in hhtpd.conf verified <Files ~ "^.ht"> is correct 5) verified the "default" directory is correct (/var/www/html)
I have read and tried several ideas in posts listed on the web but to no avail and am at a loss as to what to look for next..
allow specific user permission to read/write my folder
I have a folder called /TAR/Sketch
I added a new user, named Snoopy, I want to grant this user the ability to add files & directories to this folder which is under the group Sketches and the owner is me.
Just finished downloading a game in .run format, i downloaded it to my Home>Downloads folder and ran these commands in terminal: (game is tremulous if it matters)
chmod +x tremulous.run ./tremulous.run
It started it up in the terminal and i began working my way through the installation process, and i tried to install it into my Home>Games folder. (Is it supposed to be home>games or your username>games?)
and it said PERMISSION DENIED. No write permission to Home/Games/
How do i give myself read and write permissions to my game folder?
I'm having an odd problem (although I'm probably missing something obvious to a non-semi-newbie):I have a directory used for samba shares which is owned by user fred, a system user which the windows clients on my network authenticate with to access the shares. I, roger, want to access the directories without having to put my 'sudo boots' on every time, so I made the directory group users and added roger to that group, and changed the file/folder modes from 0755 to 0775.However I still do not have write permissions inside the directory; I still seem to be considered 'other' and hence only have read and execute.
Not sure if this is the correct forum for this but I run ubuntu 10.04 server in virtualbox, and have samba running. I can see the files and read them in win7, but I want write access aswell!
I need to do this in terminal only, and Im not that well versed in Linux or the terminal. Anyways here is my smb.conf:
I just got a new PC with 2TB of HDD space and it's running Ubuntu 10.04.1 32bit. I have created a user for networking, called share and have created a folder within the home folder called public. I then shared the folder and gave 777 access to it as I want this to be public - but for my local network and my later for ssh access. I have installed samba, and under the sharing options I allowed for guest logins and people to write and delete from folder. SO how would I be able to "see" this from my windows machine? It's running XP pro and it has a domain other than workgroup - but that shouldn't affect it should it?
Also, the laptop with XP is on the wireless with and internal IP of 10.0.0.135 and my PC is on the LAN connection with and internal IP of 10.0.0.1 I'm sort of familiar with networks, but I have NO clue as to how to do this.
ok trying to use grip but it keeps giving me this messageCode:No write access to write encoded fileso i have a folder in my home folder called flac and i want to modify the folder so that all files within can be written toi have tried
The title says it all: I have two folders which I share in Ubuntu (10.10), one of them is "public", so I set it to allow guests to create/move/delete files in the folder. Then there is my mother's PC running Windows XP Professional (also one shared folder with write access). When I was using Windows 7, I could create/delete/edit files on my mother's shared folder but now, using Ubuntu, I can only read from it. Same with the shared folder in Ubuntu, I can only read it from XP but not write to it.
I've run into some problems trying to change the default cgi folder from /var/www/cgi-bin to /var/www/cgi-local (in order to migrate scripts from a much older server to a new one). I have edited httpd.conf to modify the following:
Code: ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "/var/www/cgi-local/" # # "/var/www/cgi-bin" should be changed to whatever your ScriptAliased # CGI directory exists, if you have that configured. # <Directory "/var/www/cgi-local"> [Code]...
I have also tried several variations. I left ScriptAlias at the default "/var/www/cgi-bin" and I have tried it with AllowOverride None and without the +ExecCGI after Options. I am getting a 404 error when a form has an action directed at a cgi script that is in cgi-local.
