I have installed KDE 4.6.1, on distribution Ubuntu 10.10 . But i have problem with trash icon. Even when i delete a simple text file, trash icon not change, shows empty icon. When I open trash directory location from dolphin, left side shortcuts, it shows empty directory.Is it a bug? Where is my deleted file gone?
View 4 RepliesI'm a beginner at backing up my Ubuntu system, but I've set Simple Backup to do a backup once a week. I deleted the oldest of these files, but now it's sitting in my Trash and I can't empty it. I get a permission denied error for the folders within the backup folder in the trash, yet I can't restore the folder either - Ubuntu says it 'failed to determine the original path' for the folder. I've just discovered this in Xubuntu Jaunty, but I'm confident the same will happen in any other WM I choose (I have several installed - I like variety ).
It's not a huge file, but it's hanging out there and I'd like to get it either deleted or restored. Possibly I oughtn't to have deleted it in the first place (it usually lives in /var/backup, which I can't access except as root). The files, which I probably deleted /as/ root, show up in my user trash rather than root's trash. I found the trash in ~/.local/share/Trash/files, but I'm not sure if just deleting them as root would be a good.
Instead of moving to trash, how can i make the delete button delete? Delete is already enabled on the right click menu.

I went to /usr/share/icons/Mist but i didn`t find any trash icon there. I was thinking to change all the trash icons from there with my custom icons (empty trash icon and full trash icon).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have to delete a certain line of text from the a textfile via ubuntu's shell scripting.I have done research, and it seems that most people advocate the usage of sed /d option. sed makes does not edit the text file. Hence, most options I discovered involved the use of a temporary variable/textfile and then overwriting the old file with the temporary new file. Is there anyway whereby I can bypass the use of temporary storage containers? I hope there is any magical combination of commands to edit the file directly.

I have just created an 11.3 64 bit image using susestudio. All seems well but would like to customize the desktop via my script that I have added. My question is how do I remove the home directory and the trash icon from the desktop? Or better said what is the path to removing the symbolic link, I cannot find the symbolic links in the desktop directory. It is empty, I do not see any symbolic links under /home/test/Desktop?

Now, I found a lovely program called "fdupes" and was able to build a list of all the duplicate files, and I'm trying to use "xargs" to remove then. However, when I try and run the command "xargs -0 --arg-file="dupes.txt" rm" or "xargs -0 rm < "dupes.txt"" it give me the following error: "xargs: argument line too long".
how perhaps a different way of accomplishing the same thing?
I am using F14 Xfce and i have installed awn so i do not need my desktop icons anymore, ie home,bin and file system, is there any way to delete/remove them? i have installed gconf-editor and unchecked them in apps-->nautilus-->desktop, but they are still there?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to delete some files off of my USB drive and it was being glitchy and really slow so I pulled the drive out and put it back in so it would read normally again. I now have an "untitled folder" in my trash that can't be deleted, and the error says "no such file or directory". Unlike a lot of the other problems I've read with not being able to delete the trash files, I don't think this is a permissions problem.
I probably made a stupid mistake and went into the .Trash-1000 folder for the USB drive itself and tried to delete the files, but each time I did that it just duplicated the original folder and renamed it, and now I can't delete those files either!

i was trying to follow a guid about how to change the icon for a specified file type (in my case .c,.h,.asm,cpp) , and that by adding the icon png to the /usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/mimetypes/text-x-csrc.png
after following the procedure the icons for all .c files have changed but not in the file manager icon view
only in List view as you can see from the screenshot
so how can i set those icons?
Straight to the problem on my [Ubuntu 9.10].I cannot delete or empty my .Trash-1000 folder on my flash drive. I tried changing permission with chmod but no way, I cannot empty the folder via the Ubuntu main trash option 'Empty Trash'. View 5 Replies View RelatedWell I'll start off with the recent changes I've made. I have three hard drives in my PC, two of which are formated NTFS. I recently installed Storage Device Manager and changed a few options around so they auto-mount of start up. Well when I did this, and wanted to delete files off those drives, I suddenly was being promoted that I must delete them permanently or not all at (wouldn't go into the trash)
I added the lines to FSTAB: uid=1000,gid=1000 0 1
So for example my secondary drive is:
nls=iso8859-1,umask=000,uid=1000,gid=1000,0,1
And also added .Trash-1000 folders in each of the two NTFS drives.
When I delete items off one of the two NTFS disks they go to the trash... I don't get the "delete forever" prompt and I can actually see them in the trash bin.
But when I empty the trash the icon remains that of the "full" trash, despite when I open it there being no trash in it.
From what I gather, there's no way to remove the Trash icon from the Unity launcher, or to hide it; is this true? I noticed that if I delete ~/.local/share/Trash, the file re-appears if I click on the Trash icon in the launcher.
