Ubuntu :: Use Sudo Without A Password For Non Interactive Login Using Plink ?

Before you say you shouldn't do that bla bla bla. I know why i shouldn't.
However i have a problem with running sudo commands from a non interactive command line script run using plink.
The automated script needs to use chown and give the current user ownership of some files and folders created by another user.
I can't use things like sudo -s etc as it requires that i enter a password.
I have setup public key authorization in order to login. Do i have to give the root user a password and log in as that. I would prefer not doing this but if that is the only solution i guess i'll have too.
I needed to use Synaptic Package Manager to install an app, but the dialog box ("enter the Administrative Password") that pops up before you can use Synaptic doesn't recognize my password ("incorrect password). I tried typing it into a text editor and it's spelled right, caps lock not turned on or anything.
In Terminal, sudo recognizes it, and it is recognized when I log into Ubuntu. I'm the sole user, I have admin privileges, I've been doing admin things.
I just now did System > Administration > Users and Groups and got a dialog box saying
"Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See [URL] for information. (Details - 1: Server ping error: IDLmg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE:1.0)"
Moving past that, I changed my user password, and Ubuntu authenticated it.
How do you launch Synaptic Package Manager from the command line?
Is it possible to have your login password t be different then your SUDO password. I did a search on sudo password- Almost every post has the term in it.
Is there a non-interactive way to change a user's passwd short of using expect? I'm using Debian.If not, then I guess I need to get this expect script working:

I need to run a script that prompts the user for some input and takes action based on that input. It must run at the end of the login process, after the desktop is displayed.I tried putting it in ~/.bash_login, but it didn't run. Do I need to tell /etc/profile to run ~/.bash_login? I thought it looked for it & ran it if it was found.
A related question would be - Can I make it so the terminal session that is running the script be the only thing that the user can do? In other words, they can't click on anything on the desktop or in the panels and have it run until after they respond to the input request.
This is an old question asked many times, which, however, is NEVER answered directly in any manual I've checked. So...I'm writing a bash install script (instead of a rpm or .deb package) that must be run by a normal user. change to superuser (asking for password and receiving it) and the rest of the script to be executed in the superuser mode in order to install what I mean to install.I know how `sudo ...` or `su `root"..."` or `gnome-terminal -e ...` can achieve this purpose by creating certain batch files and then give them as argument to these commands. That's NOT what I'm asking, however.I want to know how I can make the script interactively switch to superuser mode and go on running the rest of the script (can be a lot of code) in that mode. I don't mind if it oens a separate terminal window to do that; just how can that be achieved?
I am trying to assign a user account on RHEL5 Server a non-interactive login but I am not sure if this is the correct command: useradd useraccount -s /sbin/nologinAfter I issue this command, I try to log in with this account and it says the "Administrator has disabled this account" when I enter the password. Does any one know if the command above is correct?
I am having trouble distinguishing between login and interactive shells as they relate to terminals. I understand that a login shell is what is started when you login, and an interactive shell is used by scripts and such. I also get that terminals will use an interactive shell by default. What I don't understand is why interactive shells have no prompt by default. Is their a way to get an interactive shell to inherit the normal PS1 prompt? Is it considered bad to do this? Would it be better to have terminals start login shells, and if so why or why not?
I just build a couple production SLES 11 machines and I'm using an ssh client to connect. However the ssh client forces me to use keyboard interactive login. How can I turn this off so I can use the normal username / password?
My execution environment is Linux steamboy 2.6.31-21-generic-pae #59-Ubuntu SMP.If I log in and run a program, the program works properly. The program is a shell script, which executes an environment file, so that path and library settings point correctly.If I have cron run the same program as the same user who logged in, one of the libraries cannot be found. I have sourced .bashrc and the same environment setting file, even though .bashrc executes the same environment file . /home/amr/bin/informix_env.sh
Intuitively I think that the Login Shell and the Interactive Shell are the same applications but have access to different environmental variables.It this true? Why is there more than one type of shell anyways? You can change users with the interactive shell, why not log on with it to?
I would like to run an interactive python script in tty1 on startup. This script requires user input outputs relevant data.I also need this script to be run as root as it accesses USB devices (and has to detach kernel drivers).It is an infinite-loop script, so I also want to be able to ctrl+alt+F to tty2 to actually login if needed
I thought these were the same password?In-fact, they WERE the same password on the set-up I currently have.But now, weirdly, I can log in fine but I the exact same password is not using in order to perform admin tasks.I've tried a recovery mode, console, and then "password (username)" in order to reset the password.This does reset the password I need to use to log in, but the password still does not work for performing admin tasks
i changed my password and whenever i log in i get a message that ur login keyring password and user password do not match, so how do i change my login keyring password!!

I have a brand new install.I was doing some housekeeping and made a more sure password.Something went wonky and I got locked out.So I booted to root and changed the password.I'm back in the box now.But, my keyring password no longer matches my user password.So every time I want to do something I am asked for my old password.How do I change my keyring password to match my login password?
When i install or upgrade the system I want to be asked for the root password instead of just the normal password for sudo. The reason for this is that the kids and so on uses my system and know my password. They do not know my root password though. I do not want them to install or mess up my system by pure fumbling, so is this possible to do. A simple change in who runs the updater/install features...
Whenever I type in Sudo in my terminal, it asks for a Sudo password.. I have not set one up and I don't know what the sudo password is.. Can you disable it or change it?
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 as a vm in VMPlayer 3.0. My correct user password is required to log in. When I use the sudo command or enter an area that requires my password, the password box pops up as it should.
The problem is: If I enter my actual password, it is not accepted. But if I enter nothing, as in just hit enter, it works. It shouldn't.
That seems just a little backwards and I don't get it. I've re-installed the vm and still have the same problem.
I just finished installing 10.10 on my pc. the problem is that i cant login to the desktop i enter the password, the login sound plays and im stuck looking at the wallpaper. nothing else. i tried logging in safe mode and it worked. how can i get it to work normally?

I just bought this desktop from my friend and it runs win 7 and ubuntu 10.04. it worked very well the first two days until I changed the hostname of the system.
I did like: hostname myNewName
And everything worked fine. The problem now is when I start ubuntu and and reach username and password screen , I enter my password to login the screen becomes black and return me again to the screen where I put my password again. If I entered wrong password , the system message stating wrong password. On the other hand, when I try to run ubuntu from live-cd I can login easily and access my account.
My friend told me he removed Naultius package and reinstall it for some reason before he gave it to me. Note windows 7 is working properly.
I am an absolute Linux Beginner who is being required to do a bit of admin work because the boss just fired the old linux admin. I work on a product that have to start automatically an application. Running Opensuse 11.2 So in the inittab I have : 1:2345:once:/root/Velox/VeloxBoot.sh 2:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty2
In the VeloxBoot.sh, if I don't press any key, my application starts after a timeout. If the user presses a key I want to have a login prompt. Unfortunately, if I start /bin/login, I have a prompt with login, but once I enter my login, it does not ask for a password and it says wrong password

I have a problem regarding the ubuntu enterprise cloud. I have installed CC,CLC,SC,NC and a client and logged into thje user interface using my browser for the first time with bith username and passwd as admin and downloaded the credentials.But now as I try to login with the same username and passwd, it says that its an invalid login. I understand we have to change the password on the first login but i don't remember doing the same.

My root filesystem recently filled up. I finally established why - that my /media directory had filled up due to the USB-attached device having been unmounted for whatever reason, and SimpleBackup tried backing up without the mount in place - thereby filling up the filesystem.
I discovered that the root directory was full when the machine tried to get updates, and couldn't. So, I went into /media and tried to delete the backup directory and file(s) that were in that directory, but it tells me that permission is denied. So I try to SUDO the same command, and it tells me 3 times in a row, "Sorry, try again", followed by "sudo: 3 incorrect password attempts".
