Does anyone use a digital clipboard? see attached image I am talking about the type that will capture writing on a form or any paper and digitize it to text. Are there any products that you use and will be compatible with Ubuntu?
View 1 RepliesFrom time to time I do a bit of astrophotography and time lapse using a canon 350d. To do it properly I have to use a remote capture program on the laptop. This was never a problem on windows or the mac. Does anyone know of a way to control my camera on ubuntu 10.04 netbook edition?
I have installed gphoto2 and this allows a command line method but I dont like command lines for this kind of stuff, plus id like to see the image straight away. I have tried a couple of GUIs for gphoto but the only one which seems to have a capture option is digikam.... but the button is shaded out so I cant use it.
How can rich text or HTML source code be obtained from the X clipboard? For example, if you copy some text from a web browser and paste it into kompozer, it pastes as HTML, with links etc. preserved. However, xclip -o for the same selection just outputs plain text. I'd like to pull the HTML out and into a text editor.

More specifically I am looking to have Linux run the clipboard service centrally in the LAN with both Windows and *nix machines able to connect to it as opposed to the peer-to-peer sync model that I am seeing in almost all of the applications I've discovered thus far.

I'm having problems with writing text. It usually happens in the google search bar next to the address bar in firefox. The text sometimes automatically highlights itself at what appears to be random intervals, so i usually end up with the last part of a word (which is usually over-writing the first half, which was highlighted). This is extremely annoying as i have no clue what i could have done to cause this.

I have written a script which outputs a list of numbers to a file

so this makes acsv file with one column. I want to run it again but rather than outputing to a new csv i want to add it to this one as the next column. For this example there will be 100 rows per column.
the 1st one will make the file

i was wondering if in all the editors/tools in linux, if there was a prog that can extract a portion of a text file, giving it a starting line of say o as the first character on a line of say o35565 oxxxxx then when it finds the next line down the file with the same thing oxxxxwhatever
it could take those lines and all the lines between them and save it to another file? i dont know if you call this parsing? or what.

Two of the printers (an HP LJ1300 and a Dell 5200) eject the receipt paper automatically; the other two HP (a LJ 4200 and a LJ2420) do not eject. You have to press the green button on the printer. Is there a solution to that? They are all set up with the same PCL settings.

I've set my default language to both "C" and to "EN-us" and the problem is that absolutely every single time I print, I have to meander through varying layout print menus to find the "A4" setting and change it to "letter". That, or sacrifice the last two lines on every page because the default size is larger than the actual size. Bad default. It is not unique to Red Hat/CentOS, of course. Same problem exists on Debian and SuSE, too. Why is this such an intractable issue? Why is there not some simple and obvious way to say, "squish all instances of A4 (or "letter") and replace with "letter" (or "A4")!"?

I see references to this issue on various websites and I saw at least one reference to new drivers but alas they were all for windows. Some one had told me that it would be there on the following directory.
/usr/share/icons/balanzan/scalable/apps and select firefox.png.
But I couldn't find it there.
There was no balanzan folder inside icons. I could find scalable folder inside default.kde4 folder.
/usr/share/icons/default.kde4/scalable/apps/
But there no firefox.png.
I swore I wouldn't do it again, but I did it anyway and installed 'current,' but I'm using Xfce not KDE. Everything was working very well, until I tried to print this morning. From Okular it would load the paper then stop and not print. From OpenOffice it would load and print, but the output was garbage.
Finally, I moved copies of what needed to be printed to the Xp partition, booted to Xp, and documents printed out just fine. As noted I'm running Slackware64 'current' with the latest versions of Cups and Hplip. The printer is a HP 940c. Hplip reports everything is fine, as does CUPS when running it in a browser (localhost:631).

I have a CUPS server with several end users. The problem is that the printer stops printing if someone trys to print in letter size. (You have to insert letter paper or abort the print job on the printer.)
