Fedora :: Create A 'clickable' Script In 15 And Then Place The Result In The Favourites Panel?

Jun 16, 2011

I just upgraded to Fedora 15 from Fedora 14.... I think I could tolerate the new gnome shell if I could turn some of my tcl/tk and python gui scripts into things that I can store in the 'favorites' panel. In F14 I could create 'applets' ( with an Icon) that I could put in the top panel ( menu bar). Clicking on the icon would start the (gui based) script. Is there some way I can create a 'clickable' script in F15 and then place the result in the Favourites panel?

Debian Installation :: Have To Manually Track Down All Dependent Packages

Dec 18, 2010

I'm trying to force open office to the 3.2.1 version that is available in backports. When I force the openoffice.org package, and try to install it ( with synaptic ), it complains. I assume this is because the dependencies aren't right. Do I have to manually track down all the dependent packages and force their versions to comply as well?

Ubuntu Networking :: Mount To Vista Needed For Apache - Symbolic Link Not Allowed Or Link Target Not Accessible

Apr 26, 2010

I have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf

[Code]....

The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.

log from apache: [Mon Apr 26 20:39:42 2010] [error] [client 99.99.99.99] Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /home/user1/pub_html/Music, referer: https://xx.xx.xx/~user1/music.html

The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.

Programming :: Link Directories - Symlink Not Updated / Hard Link Not Supported?

Sep 6, 2010

In the ordering of files I keep I need links to directories. Sometimes I even need to move directories to new locations. I have tried using symlinks, but they become dead when I move the directory they point to. I have tried hard links, but I haven't found any Linux file system that would support hard linked directories. How can I achieve that a complex structure of directories (currently with symlinks for directories and hard links for files) keep symlinks live when directories are moved?

- is there any utility that updates symlinks when a directory is moved?

- is there any Linux filesystem that supports hard linked directories?

- is there any good Linux interface to the new NTFS (the only file system I know to support automatically updating directory links, called directory junctions)?

Ubuntu :: Broken Links On Every Installation But Link Is Ok When See It In Nautilus

Jun 8, 2011

I reinstalled Linux, in a new Partition, just formatted. Now, when I try to install, or copy, into my /usr/local/"whatever" folders I just see broken links of the files (the little x in the right top of the file, I presume is a broken link). But when I see the file in nautilus, the files seems to be good. But the programs doesn't works. The programs I've been installing are NukeX and UV Layout. The weird thing is that the very first time I installed Linux everything worked smoothly. Since I formatted the partition I've only unistalled Noveau and installed the Nvidia latest drivers of my GPU.

Ubuntu Installation :: After Reinstalling / How Do I Re-link Separate / Home Partition?

Jan 20, 2010

Compiz settings, my entire GUI would freeze up after the startup splash. It did the little ubuntu jingle and so on but wouldn't actually load up the desktop. I would've booted into recovery mode and deleted the settings that were messing it all up for me, but pressing ESC during grub did nothing! So as a last effort I reinstalled Ubuntu (Karmic) from the live CD on the first partition only, but I don't know how to make the second partition (with my old /home directory) the normal /home directory. The instructions linked above seem to require having done the whole process of moving the partition (so as to create "old" and "new" dirs, etc.).

So there are really two problems here: 1) How does one restore things to normal when a few too many cheeky moves with the desktop effects turns everything to pot? And 2) How does one reinstall Ubuntu with a separate /home partitions

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Add Mp4a Track To Mp4 Video

Jun 7, 2010

I have an mp4 video which includes a 5.1 audio stream, while I only have stereo speakers from my computer. It is hooked up to my receiver through the audio out (headphone) jack from the back of the machine. Anyway, I have a stereo audio stream for the video, but I can't figure out how to add the mp4a stream to the mp4.

I have checked out avidemux, but it doesn't seem to handle mp4a files. I don't want to transcribe the video, simply add the audio to the mp4 container. Does anyone know how to accomplish this in Ubuntu?

It seems that the mp4a is us encoded as AAC.

Rationale is I want to use wireless tethering from my phone to replace my broadband connection at home. At the moment my phone contract gives me unlimited data access, however if I were to sign a new contract today this would drop to 2 GB a month with hefty overage charges.

Ubuntu :: Keeping Track Of Working Hours?

Sep 21, 2010

I would like to have a way to keep track of my working hours easily.

Insert arrival and finish times and have the difference in decimal. For example, if I start at 8:00 and finish at 9:30, 1.5 should be added.

I tried to do this with Calc but couldn't figure it out. I set one column to have entrance time, another one to have exit time and a third one with the difference("=B2-C2"). The result is in a timestamp format and not decimal. If I use another cell to say something like HOURS(D2) it rounds the number rather than give a decimal(would give 9 for 9:20:00).

EDIT: solved by doing =24*(B2-C2)
