I am trying to modify this to suit my needs, Back in time homepage has some basic info, but very terse, same with the man page. The following two examples are the only references I could find. first one from here - [URL] I don't want email to be sent, just an update to the log file will be fine.

Programming :: Physical Memory Leaked By User Application Process Is Not Reclaimed Back After Exit?

May 2, 2010

Whenever I'm running my application process, I've 1M physical memory usage is increasing for every 2 hours. This I observed using 'free -m' command. But 'top' command did not showing any increase 'RSS' size.It is same as it was started initially.Even though I stopped my process, the increased memory was not released back. If I start my application process then again memory usage start increasing by 1M for every 2 hours. increase of memory usage observer with 'free' and that too when my application is running, but top command is not showing any change in the RSS sizeIf my application is leaking any memory which is allocated by new/malloc, that should be released back whenever my application exit and the size increase will be show through top command for that process, right? This is not happeningThis proves that there is no potential leaks in my process. But why physical memory is increasing when only my process is running?

Programming :: Multithreading For Callback Functions

Jan 4, 2011

Im implementing a chat application using Jabber/XMPP and gloox framework which should send and receive messages concurrently in Ubuntu Linux.

The problem faced is both the threads are created and pthread_join( ) is called for both. The iSend thread is scheduled first but gets suspended at cin. Once the recv( ) function is called, which runs in iRecv thread, the recv call back function handleMessage( ) is called. However the control never shifts back to the iSend thread which should call SendMessage( ) function.

Ubuntu Installation :: Missing Windows 7 Boot Option - Get Back?

Jun 5, 2011

just recently, while attempting to boot to windows 7, i happened to select the wrong boot option by mistake, that is the windows 7 recovery (something like that, cant remember it specifically, but the word 'recovery' is there). the option has been there eversince i installed ubuntu 11.04 on my system, of which i cant find the answer as to why it existed there. so once i selected it (which was by mistake), it took me into some recovery process which i abandoned as quickly. it restarted and the windows 7 option was no longer there. the windows 7 recovery option, however, is still there. How to get my windows 7 boot option back?

Ubuntu :: How To Get Add/remove Application Back

Apr 30, 2010

Is it possible to get "add/remove Application" back? Software Center looks nice... but that is all it is.. looking nice.... I really don't like the fact that you cannot select all the application you want to install and installed them at once. Especially when you first setting up your system. but sometime you just want "shop" through the list. Plus, you sometime you just can't remember all the name of the App you want to install, in "add/remove Application" you can shop through icon. you might argue, so did Software Center, but sitting in front of you computer, during the entire process of installing every softwares.... takes like hours.... With "Add/Remove Application" It takes a min to make all the decision and you can walk away. You wouldn't use it a lot. But it would be handy when you needed. I mean I don't really get why "Add/Remove Application" got replaced. Not to mention Software center "Gray Out" a lot I don't know. Add/Remove Application just make hell of more sense. I am not such if I can install the old package from ubuntu 9.10.

Ubuntu :: HPLIP Option Not Present When Setting Up Printer?

Apr 20, 2010

I just built a system and put a fresh install of ubuntu 9.10 on it. I have two other systems with 9.10 as well. On both of them the printer (an HP Officejet Pro 7680 set up directly on the network) is shown as an HPLIP printer with a URI that starts with hp:/net/ . When trying to set up this printer on the new machine the option for HPLIP is not present and the URI starts with dnssd://. I can only set up as and LPD Network Printer or an Appsocket/JetDirect network printer. Yes I have the hplip stuff installed on the new machine. My main concern is actually using the scanner function with Xsane. The other two machines scan just fine, the new one can't find any devices. I think this must be connected with the lack of HPLIP functions. This is with the AMD64 bit version of 9.10

Ubuntu :: One Time Grub Option Script

Programming :: Setting ACL As Mount Option Using Awk And Sed Script

Apr 24, 2010

I am creating a script for making a public folder in linux. The idea behind is to allow any user to write files in this folder and further each of those files can be used by any user. For this purpose I am using acl. This first requires to set acl as mount option in /etc/fstab which I need to do with help of (awk and sed) command available in linux.

The line below is the fstab entry which I need to make change in.
UUID=e9a3db4b-d8c0-40b4-a661-131e13afea1e
/ext3 relatime,errors=remount-ro 0 1

I want my script to identify this line (most probably with / which denotes the mountpoint) and then add (acl,) without brackets in options. Currently I use the command as below
sed 's/realtime/acl,relatime/' /etc/fstab
but the above command is in reference with (realtime) what I am planning is that my script should be able to find the line which has / and then go to options and add acl there.

General :: -fPIC Compiler Option Doesn't Let Application Initialize

Sep 22, 2010

My application is developed using GCC and an binary executable created out of it which initializes successfully. By initialization, I meant all the threads in the application are created and I get the required response from the executable. There was a need to create a .so file out of my application instead of binary executable, as it needs to be integrated with another .so file to create a final patch. So we used -fPIC compiler option and created a .so and also an binary executable. But with -fPIC included, the executable fails to initialize at all. It executes some instructions in the main program, before finally haulting down with a " Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault." error. And it always fails at the same faulty address which points to nothing in my application code. What is that -fPIC adds to the code, which makes my code fail with strange behaviour.

Fedora :: Select A Different MPM Compile Time Option?

Aug 15, 2011

I want to recompile apache so I can select a different MPM compile time option. I have looked in the graphical application manager, but I don't see a development version of apache like you do for many of the packages. Am I not looking in the right place for the source code for the Apache 2.2.17 available with FC14?

Alternatively, I can download the source from apache.org for 2.2.17. However, the install options default to a host of different directories than the FC14 version does. Being somewhat OCD I hate to mess up my FC14 system by installing to a bunch of anomalous directories, and I don't want to break anything. I can change the default install directories, if I knew what the FC14 apache 2.2.17 was compiled with. There is an httpd-devel-2.2.17-1 package. But the description makes it sound like it is for developing additional modules. I want to recompile the main httpd-2.2.17-1 package. Does anyone know if this is a possibility?
