Fedora :: Compiz Fusion - Every Time Go To Kde Application Launcher It Takes Back To Space 1

I have updated to FC11 a few months back and after I got my desktop effects going I notice that every time I go to my kde application launcher it takes me back to space 1. I could be in space 6 but as soon as I go to the application launcher to open a new application it takes me back to space 1 and I have to manually move the application to desktop 6. This only happens when compiz fusion is enable...
I am running FC12 x86_64 with KDE 4.3.3 using an NVidia GeForce 9600 graphics card. I installed the drivers followings leigh's procedure and everything works fine -- apart from the fact that clicking the the "f" button to bring up the K menu takes between 8 and 10 seconds. Same thing happens if I select anything from the K desktop pop-up menu, like the Konsole or the run command for example. I disabled desktop effects but this had no impact.
when I boot my pc with fedora 10, it displays the white cube, although i can rotate it but it does not seem to work i cant see any desktops. How can I switch back to the normal desktop view or disable compiz fusion ?
I accidentally deleted my compiz fusion Icon from my top panel and now I can't seem to get it back. Before 10.04 I could just run Applications/System tools/ Compiz fusion icon and it would appear in my panel. This doesn't work any more! when I run "fusion-icon --no-start" in terminal I get

I updated system few days back. and Ka-boom! Suddenly my all desktop effects gone. My theme effects of Mac from the theme Macubuntu 10.10 were gone too. I removed Macubuntu and tried to go into visual effects tab in Appearance Preferences, but it says "Mutter is running, Can't switch to other effects." Now, may this mutter is coming in natty narwhal & new, but seriously it's 2D effects aren't smooth enough.. Also I just can't use Alt+Tab which I'm habitual of.
My question is: How to disable this mutter and re-enable my Compiz-Fusion? I tried to kill mutter process from the daemons and start a compiz.. It didn't work.. Instead, I had to reboot my machine everytime I did that. When I remove mutter from sudo apt-get remove mutter.My desktop stays blank after a reboot and I can't access anything.. Thanks to EasyStroke that I'd given stokes to open a new terminal.
I was trying to install and run Compiz fusion with fedora 12. I downloaded all the packages etc using both the gui and terminal according to some guides. When I click the desktop effects button, it says 3d is not enabled, however the guide I followed said to enter glxgears (or something to that effect) and if it came up with 3d gears then 3d was enabled...I am very confused. There was an application I ran after downloading/installing some packages that caused the screen to go white and I had to reboot. I read in another forum this may have something to do with my drivers...gotta check my graphics card specs, will post when I find them.
I made a fresh install of Fedora 13, installed the video card driver for my video card. How do I get compiz fusion to work and what do I need to install? when I enable desktop effects the system panels disappear. Also I'm looking to install that effects editor that has all the different effects menus.
Okay I think I got the menu loader and Compiz working.. for those who browse to this thread.. the answer is. yum install compiz-fusion fusion-icon the desktop cube was a little tricky to get working.
However if I enable desktop effects fromt he preferences menu the system panels still disappear.

I went to this link hand added the file to /etc/yum.repos.d, but get the "Could not contact source fedora-compiz-fusion, so it will be disabled" error when trying to enable the source in PackageKit
I am having problem with compiz-fusion icon in fedora 14... I have installed compiz, but when I click the compiz-icon to start it.... the system logs off and again asks password... Same thing I have done in my HP laptop, but in it, its working.. The problem comes in my pc only... I followed leigh123linux' guide about the compiz fusion installation and set-up. Unfortunately, I failed to do a compiz-check before running the whole thing. I enabled compiz and did a reboot. The next time I logged in, my screen just turned white. I can still see my mouse moving though, but I couldn't disable the compiz.

I have official Compiz Fusion running on my Fedora 13 64-bit. I also installed some custom cursor themes and I'm seeing some strange behaviour. When mouse is on my Desktop the custom cursor theme is replaced by the default one. When I launch Firefox, for example, and move cursor inside Firefox window, then my custom cursor is being shown. Also, if I go to resize some window the custom "resize cursor" is being shown, or if system is processing something then custom hourglass cursor is shown again.
Basically while on Desktop or Gnome panels the custom cursor is being replaced by the default Fedora cursor. This only happens when I choose Compiz as my window manager. With metacity my custom cursor theme is behaving properly. Is it possible to make Compiz Fusion not to mess with my cursor theme? Or maybe it is a Compiz bug?
Ok, this indeed is a bug, but I'm not sure if it's a Gnome or Compiz bug. Here is a fix (a bad one for now) which might save someone time. The credit for this does not belong to me, I got it form this link. So, here it goes:
1. Install gconf-editor by running "yum -y install gconf-editor" 2. Change your windows manager to metacity temporarily 3. Change your cursor theme to the desired custom one 4. Run gconf-editor and go to "desktop->gnome->peripherals->mouse" and remember the value of "cursor theme" option this gconf-editor branch. 5. Create directory with name "default" in "/home/yourUserName/.icons/" directory. 6. Inside newly created "default" directory create file with name "index.theme" with the following content:

7. After saving the file re-enable Compiz as your window manager and logout/login to your account. The problem with this fix is that you will have to modify "index.theme" file every time you will want to change your icon theme, but it works nevertheless.
I am running Centos 5.3. I ran no updates, performed no installs, nor changed any configuration immediately prior to this issue. My problem is this: when I run the command startx (default runlevel 3), it is a long time (5-10 minutes) before Gnome startx, and once it does start applications will not run. Also, when I try to use sudo (from any environment, even ssh), it is a long time (5-10) before the command is executed.
I cannot say for sure, but it seems like this is an intermittent problem. Sometimes X takes a long time to start, but once it starts it will launch programs. Sometimes X takes a long time to launch, but once it starts it will only launch certain programs. Though presently X always takes a long time to start, and I cannot successfully launch any programs.
A while back a had a similar problem to this (x taking long time to start, sudo taking long time to execute) and it ended up being a DNS problem. Unfortunately, I cannot remember exactly what it was and I stupidly did not document it. Maybe this is also DNS related, I don't know.
I don't know what log files to look at for problems with X, Gnome, and sudo taking a long time to start.
I wanted to have some cool effects in my desktop and have just installed compiz fusion in fedora 11 (kde) but when i launch compiz fusion icon the screen just goes white and nothing appears.
I am trying to understand these two examples for setting up user-callback option in back in time application. I am trying to modify this to suit my needs, Back in time homepage has some basic info, but very terse, same with the man page. I've just managed to compress my LVs, extend my VG to my new SSD, move the LVs to the SSD and remove the old disk from the VG. All is well and good (mind you, I did kill my /home partition but it's sorted now...)
My next step was to shrink the PV (I think that's what I want to shrink?) so that I can add another partition to the SSD (to reduce compile times). See below for my current setup. I have a 35G PV with LVs totalling around 33G but the "partition" of the LVM is still 58G.
I wanted to try KDE 4.3 on Fedora 11. I enabled the testing repos and updated. However after the update, I restarted and when I login, it takes me back to the login screen. I've tried to login with the gnome desktop and also as other users but it still took me back to the login screen.
I run the final version of Lucid Lynx and have a 9800gt.
I followed the following procedure to install compiz (and I want compiz, not just the built in desktop effects) on my computer, all sudo with KDM disabled where necessary:
1. apt-get install nvidia-current
2. nvidia-xconfig
3. apt-get install build-essential libxcomposite-dev libpng12-dev libsm-dev libxrandr-dev libxdamage-dev libxinerama-dev libstartup-notification0-dev libgconf2-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libglu1-mesa-dev libmetacity-dev librsvg2-dev libdbus-1-dev libdbus-glib-1-dev libgnome-desktop-dev libgnome-window-settings-dev gitweb curl autoconf automake automake1.9 libtool intltool libxslt1-dev xsltproc libwnck-dev python-dev python-pyrex <- these were prerequisites mentioned by the guide on compiz.org
At this point, everything installed successfully, and nvidia driver was working perfectly.
I verified this: desktop effects worked OOB.
5. compiz --replace &
6. emerald --replace &
At this point, compiz apparently started. Emerald worked perfectly: all of the window decorations worked OOB. I went and ran ccsm, and turned on quite a few settings. It didn't enable ANYTHING. When I reran ccsm, all of the settings were back to default, and enabling any new ones had no effect on window behavior. Strange. I looked on the web and found:[url]
The ubuntu page said that I should not "Enable integration into the desktop environment" if gconf was selected. BUT THE FLAT FILE CONFIGURATION WAS SELECTED BY DEFAULT. Then I went back to the site and it said flat file configuration was recommended!
Maybe I shouldn't have enabled desktop effects first (NOTE THAT I LATER DISABLED IT and things still did not work)?
how do I create a launcher for an application using DosBox? I tried in Alacarte, but it does not show up. I did this both as root and as user.Disregard. It did create the launchers. It just put them in "Other" even though I told it to create them in "Internet" so they are there, but just not where I want them. That is okay since now I can add them to my favorites and put them in the order I want.
I guess I will like Gnome 3 better as I find tweaks to make it work like I want it to work. Still though, it is not nearly as user friendly as my heavily tweaked Gnome 2 with Compiz.Another question though: How do I get it to select and use a photo I want for the background instead of the stock images? It is annoying as all get-out to have the screen turn to grey rather than stay the way I want it. :
