I want to export of the current default keyring (wireless network passwords etc.) and import it to another ubuntu 9.10 release on another computer but I can't seem to find much on the subject. Does anyone know how to do this?

Every time I log in from a reboot, I have to create a new default keyring password, enter my wireless WPA key, my password for gwibber (twitter and facebook) and all of my IM accounts.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu.It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and recently started getting a pop-up similar to the following at every boot up: Login keyring failed Your login keyring did not succeed. Enter login keyring here: That's not [exactly] what it says, but very similar. I should probably add that I have not set up any different 'user profiles' or whatever they're called, but am the only one using this PC...at least, at the present time. Again, this only started a couple of weeks ago and I don't know what I did to start it nor what to do to stop it. I guess it's not extremely painful to have to type my password in every time, but a PITA nevertheless.

now i can select and use the new resolution - until next reboot. after an reboot 1280x720 is again not available. even if i work with sudo - the resolution isnt there....

I can't work out how to save the iptables. I searched the whole system for files/folders containing the name "iptables" and got 3 results:

I've tried iptables save, iptables-save and iptables save active.
"iptables save" and "iptables save active" give me an invalid argument error. "iptables-save" isn't a valid command. "iptables --help" gives me a list of valid switches, none of which have to do with saving.

I don't have a monitor for that desktop, so I was wondering, is there any way to remove the keyring/to automatically unlock it during autologin? I don't remember what a site I found it on, but I used this to remove my keyring yesterday. It's no longer working today.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently changed my password, restarted my comp several times since then, and then today (roughly 23:30 est) i received an error message stating that my keyring password had changed since i last needed to use it. i dont know why it changed only the login pass and not the 'keyring' pass too. i cannot figure out how to actually change the keyring pass..this poses no actual problem, merely an inconvenience.

Its hard to pin-point when it happened as all I know is that I restarted and was no longer prompted for any kind of password. I have been searching google for a few hours and have only found ways to make this happen on purpose, but not necessarily anything to reverse it. If somebody has any idea what has happened here This is really frustrating. I liked loging in with the keyring as opposed to the login screen and I would like things to go back that way.

But I can't get my ssh key passphrase work with the keyring manager.
I even created a new user account with a fresh home directory and it doesn't work. You run "ssh myname@mydomain.net" and it prompts you for the key passphrase in the terminal.
Expected behavior: with Gnome, you run "ssh myname@mydomain.net" and the password manager opens a GUI to ask for the passphrase. Once unlocked, it remains unlocked until you log off. Moreover, at that moment of unlocking you can tell it to remember the passphrase forever so it gets automatically unlocked next time you login.
The keyring works fine for the wireless password, and for luks-encrypted volumes, but not for Secure Shell keys.
I'm using Ubuntu Lucid, installed lubuntu-desktop package, using gdm session manager, all updated.
It seems to me that he passwords kept in GNU Keyring Seahorse, are not kept very safe, because if I'm logged in and someone access my cumputer they can see my passwords that are saved there. I have set a keyring password, but it seems that is it not all the time locked.What are some general follow guide rulles to make sure my passwords are kept safe and my encryption keys that I use.

some weeks ago, I started getting the prompt from the keyring manager after each login:Enter password for keyring 'Default' to unlock.An application wants access to the keyring 'Default', but it is locked.I don't know what I could have changed, but this is getting pretty annoying. I know that it is not the network-manager, it is configured for "all users" and my Wifi is working even when I cancel the dialog. In fact, canceling the dialog seems to have no effect at all.
Is there any way to find out which application might be trying to access the keyring (and to stop it from doing so)? I already tried disabling some of the startup applications (which seem to be all default anyway) but that didn't help.Please note that I do NOT want to set an empty password for the keyring because I think protecting it is a good thing. I just want to be prompted for the password only when I use it.
My Mom's computer doesn't have a password set to login to the OS, since there isn't one set. I get a keyring asking for a password, since I didn't use one to enter the OS. I didn't know where else to place this.It's really preventing me from doing some things, such as setting up the Empathy IM program for chatting and whatnot, and this default keyring really haulting any progress I can make on that front. It also pops up when I'm just booting up the laptop. My brother set the password and then forgot, so he tried all of these passwords and it would never work. It always pops back up several moments later and reiterates its question. It goes away when I click on 'Deny', but now I can't follow that same route when trying to set Empathy IM Client up. I would like to either do away with this password requirement, or just change it to something I can easily remember

After some searching on the forums, it appears that this is because I set my laptop to auto-login. Am I missing something here, but what does auto-login have to do the the keyring? Why do I even need to enter that password? I understand that many Ubuntu users are picky about security, but why isn't their any option to disable this? View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running an up-to-date installation of Lucid, and have come upon a little problem. It seems that applications are having trouble communicating with gnome-keyring-daemon.
When I connect to wireless networks -- even ones that are in the network manager -- it always asks me for a password.
Gwibber is crashing because it can't connect to the gnome keyring daemon.
And when I open the Passwords and Encryption Keys utility (on the Accessories menu), I get the error: "Couldn't communicate with key ring daemon."
I have verified that the daemon is starting up when I log in, that all of the appropriate keyring-related login items (certificate and key storage, secret service, & SSH key agent) are in place, and that the keyring works in other accounts on my machine. I have tried deleting my extant keyrings, but that has produced any success. And when I kill and restart the keyring daemon once I'm already logged in, the problem seems to abate.
I don't know if it matters, but for OS X compatibility purposes, I'm running as a UID under 1000.
