Ubuntu :: Reset A Kerberos Password?

Aug 5, 2011

We have an employee that left our place of business on bad terms and his computer has been locked out since. The comp runs Ubuntu 10.10.

We have followed the regular password reset methods online but the Kerberos password seems to be getting in the way. We have no idea was this password is and it seems impossible to work around. Does anybody know a way?

Were were about to gain access as the root user but cannot access other user accounts as the root user.

Ubuntu Security :: SSH To Server Using GSSAPI/Kerberos Prompts For Password When Using DNS Alias?

Jan 15, 2010

I have a Kerberos/LDAP/OpenAFS server running on Debian lenny, set up according to Davor Ocelic's excellent guide here (url). SSHd has ben configured to use GSSAPI auth and the clients have been configured to pass auth tokens through to the server.

My clients are all Ubuntu 9.10 x86 fully patched. On the clients, OpenAFS has been compiled and installed as a kernel module and git 1.6.6 has been compiled from source and installed. Otherwise, all software is stock Ubuntu repository-ware.

The setup is working fine as long as I connect to the primary server using its hostname:

peter@client01:~$ ssh nana
<connection goes through seamlessly without prompting>
peter@nana:~$

If I try to connect via a DNS alias (actually a second CNAME record), I get:

peter@client01:~$ ssh git1
peter@git1's password:
<connection completes>
peter@nana:~$

I need both passwordless auth and the DNS alias working, as it's internal policy that user connections are only ever made to service names, not real hostnames.

I have tried adding a second host principal to Kerberos for the alias (git1.darling.local) in addition to the host principal for the hostname (nana.darling.local).

If I turn off PasswordAuthentication in sshd_config, then "ssh git1" doesn't even fall through to passwords; it just denies logins. So it looks like it's not even using GSSAPI for the DNS alias.

So:

1) Is what I want even possible? I can't find anything that indicates that there's anything odd about DNS aliases such that this should happen.

2) Which config files should I post to help debug this? There's a lot and I didn't want to start blarfing them here if they aren't helpful.

CentOS 5 :: CMOS Password Reset Possible From Within It?

Oct 7, 2010

I have a lost password on an Intel DG33TL motherboard which I guess is only resetable by shorting the right jumpers on the board. I have two questions regarding that:

1- Is there any way I can reset the CMOS password through the CentOS? Or is that a thing of old motherboards where one could reset them through the OS?

2- Currently I have two hard drives installed in Raid1 (mirroring each other) through the motherboard RAID (not the through any RAID card or through CentOS). RAID was made prior to installing CentOS. So, would resetting the jumper mess up the whole RAID? I don't want trouble and I can leave without the password but it's good to know if need arises.

Ubuntu Networking :: What Could Do To Reset Password Or Gain Access To Router?

Jan 14, 2011

I have a friend that recently moved to Linux. She had started out with Ubutnu 9.04, which was giving her a lot of Issues along with being no longer supported, so I recommend Linux Mint 10 to her, since she wanted something closer to Windows. I instructed her on how to do a clean install. Linux Mint installed ok, but when she was about to set up wireless to get on the Internet, she realised that she had forgotten her password. She called her network (Belkin) for assistance to retrieve it. She was told that Linux is not really supported; however they gave her this address to access the router: 192.186.2.1 from her browser which did not work. So there was nothing further they could have done since she couldn't gain access to the router. She is currently only able to use Ethernet connection to get online.

What could she do to reset her password or gain access to the router? I didn't want to tell her to reset the modem in case it will leave her with no internet and no way to setup her router.

Ubuntu Servers :: Mysql Root Password Reset Hangs?

Jul 16, 2011

I forgot my root password for mysql, and after some searching I found several solutions to fix it. But none of them seem to work.I tried this article http://ubuntu.flowconsult.at/en/mysq...root-password/ with starting mysql with the --skip-grant-tables option. The problem is that nothing happens, it just hangs. Also tried the the --init-file option, that one runs fine, at least it returned to the command line. But the sql query in the file to which it point doesnt seem to do anything. The password wasn't changed to the one I specified in the sql file.Any idea what could be going on here, and how I could fix it?

Fedora Servers :: Reset SQL Root Password

Feb 4, 2010

I am trying to set up a webserver with apache, mysql and php on a old pentrium 4 computer. When I tried to setup my MySQL password, I created a password with punctuation in it. MySQL didn't want the password and gave some error about BASH. I tried changing my password again but now I constantly get the error that I am unable to login. I tried all the possibilities with the password I entered before but i just can't login to MySQL anymore. I found some help sites on how to reset your password by running MySQL in the safe mode but that didn't work for me. Can anyone help me resetting my password? Next time i'll use a pass without punctuation Every help is much appreciated! BTW, I also tried uninstalling MySQL with yum (yum remove mysql) and it uninstalled, but when I installed it again the password was still there
