View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to 11.04 and I've been tweaking Unity to get the desktop just the way I like it. I've come across two minor problems though:
1. When I tweak the icon size settings in the Unity tab of CCSM, the icons do not change size; they remain at the default "48" setting regardless of what I type in.
2. When I set the Unity launcher to auto-hide (also in the Unity tab of CCSM), it stays at the default "dodge windows" setting.
Are there any workarounds to change these settings when tweaking them in CCSM's interface does not work? (Or is there some trick I don't know to get CCSM to work properly?)
Is there any way to prevent the Unity Launcher from auto hiding as I maximise a window? It takes a few seconds for the launcher to reappear when I point the cursor in the left corner of the screen which is a bit of a delay when I quickly want to multitask between multiple applications.

But there are some things that Ubuntu evidently thinks should never be removed from the launcherFor example I don't like "Files and Folders". It doesn't show the entire folder structure. I can't see how to remove it. Instead I prefer "File Manager".

The same goes for 11.04, but... all the drives/partitions are also shown in the launcher.Because it gets a bit crowded on the left side, I want to get rid of those drive-icons.I can only open them, not remove them from the launcher, except my external drive (safely remove), but than it also disappears from Nautilus Is there any (easy) way to remove those drives?

How do I get into terminal, and once there how do I dissable compiz? unity --reset?I tried CTRL-ALT-T and that doesn't workCTRL-ALT-F1 brings up a screen that aks me to log in but won't accept my login info.

I want to use the Gnome Launcher to launch a script I made but it will only work if I select "Application in Terminal." It will not launch if I use "Application". I've also noticed that my script will only run in the terminal regardless of how I launch it. Fedora will not let me just double click the file and "Run" the script. I don't want to open a terminal every time I run the script.

I'm used to use several workspaces (6) for completly different tasks. In the netbook edition, the merged launcher/taskbar shows always ALL programs running on all workspaces. I don't like it, because it becomes confusing to have too many symbols from every workspace, even when on the active one only a few applications run. So is there a way to hide application symbols for applications which don't run on the active workspace?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't hide the launcher in unity 3D. In 2D, it works fine, hides when i open a program, looks normal, everything. In 3D, it stays on top of whatever program I'm running. What I've tried Reinstalled unity 2D. (apt-get remove, apt-get install) For whatever reason, when I log into 3D without 2D installed, it looks like gnome, but the screen is garbled, the images disappear, menus come up as plain black squares, i literally can't even open a program. Once I install unity 2D, 3D works fine, but I can't hide the launcher. Messed around with CCSM. I tried each option under hide launcher in unity plugin (never, autohide, dodge windows, dodge active windows). None of them change anything. Updated everything through update manager (last night actually). Both 2D & 3D look and work fine, no lag or sluggish behavior. All of the effects look normal. I just can't get rid of the big launcher covering up everything I do! I've just been using 2D, although I would like to use 3D.

By panel I mean where all the menus are there - Applications, Places, System etc. and contains a tab for every running application. I brought back the panel but now I don't see the terminal launcher and I can't find it anywhere.It used to be there in "Applications -> System Tools -> Terminal" but now the System Tools option itself is not present there. System -> Preferences -> Look and Feel -> Main Menu. There one System option is unchecked but I can't check it and apply. I am logged in as root.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFresh Jessie installation with KDE desktop. Installed from Disk 1 of the dvd images. Can't figure why apt wants to remove this stuff. The only packages I removed from the base installation was iceweasel, and juk. I'd like to autoremove to clean out the amarok stuff but I'm afraid it will take all the rest with it. What do I do about this, and or how do I fix it? Does apt have a setting where if an app isn't used for x amount of time it deems it useless for removal?

I'm new to Debian, and there's something I don't understand about the packages marked as automatically installed. They are supposed to be removed by "apt-get autoremove" if no other packages depend on them, right? Well, I've installed xserver-xorg-video-ati which pulled *video-radeon, *video-r128 and *video-mach64. I later realised that I only needed *video-radeon, and got rid of xserver-xorg-video-ati and the other two. The thing is... xserver-xorg-video-radeon is still there, even if only xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver-xorg-video-radeon-dbg depend on it, and neither are installed in my system.
