OpenSUSE :: How To Remove All Traces Of Firefox

Feb 2, 2011

I installed an addon on Firefox, which i am not completely sure it is safe. (Name of the addon is Ivacy, you can google it, it's to use a VPN) Anyway, i thought that maybe that addon could install a keylogger or something. So I uninstalled it, and then I thought, what if it infected firefox? (I know i am paranoid) So i uninstalled firefox by using Yast, then reinstalled it, and my previous addons and history were still there. For me it means that uninstalling by Yast does not remove all traces of Firefox. Please do you have a way to remove all traces of Firefox? As i told you previously, I'm new to Linux, do you think that there is a risk for my PC when I install Firefox addons?

Fedora :: Remove All Traces Of GNU Java And Openjdk And Replace With Sun JDK?

Mar 20, 2011

I have fedora 13 64bit box. I have installed latest Sun JDk. But when I do: java -version I still got OpenJDK version. So I completely removed OpendJDK. But now when I do: java -version I get even older GNU java 1.5 something libgcj. So I completely removed that too but it was asking to remove bunch of dependent apps like OpenOffice Writer etc. Even though I need the writer, I let it go because I do not want ever to see the face of any GNU java on my linux. So everything related to GNU java is removed. Luckily I am able to start Eclipse and it works fine and start normally (apparently using the installed Sun JDK which is what I want). But now when I do java -version I get bash: /usr/bin/java: No such file or directoy

Now what I need to do so that when I open any terminal window and enter java -version I should get Sun JDK version? Sun JDK is installed in /usr/java/jdk1.6.021. I also have symlinks: /usr/java/latest and /usr/java/defaults pointing to sun jdk.

Debian :: Can't Remove Wine - Apt-get Bricked - Could Not Perform Immediate Configuration On 'wine-unstable'

Feb 16, 2011

while trying to get a game to work on wine I was surprised to find out that the wine version that ships with sid is 1.0.1 released in October 2005. So I installed the latest release I found at [URL] like this :

dpkg -i wine_1.1.42~winehq1-1_amd64.deb

The install failed, I think because I hadn't remove the old wine version, and that's when the joy-ride started. Impossible to remove wine to restart properly. (apt-get remove libwine wine and apt-get -f install didn't) After some googling I tried this :

dpkg -i --force-depends wine_1.1.42~winehq1-1_amd64.deb

This did install the wine version I wanted, and the game ran fine after that. However the result was a borked apt-get. Tried to remove wine again with the above commands, resulting in apt-get failing to do so because it tried installing wine-unstable and reported errors similar to these : E: Could not perform immediate configuration on 'wine-unstable'. see man 5 apt.conf under APT::Immediate-Configure for details. Fedora :: Remove Wine And Wine Installed Program?

Nov 19, 2010

I am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.

Ubuntu :: How To Completely Remove Wine

Apr 2, 2011

I want to completly remove wine, so i figured that using the package manager, and apt-get remove will make it work. Using apt-get, i get the message that there is no wine installed, even though the package manager is telling me the opposite. After that i removed wine via the package manager, but i can still run wine. And that is the point where i am getting completly lost, how the hack can i run a removed program? I did compile and install wine myself once, so the problem might hide there. But how to i remove a program without the routines of the package manager?

I seriously need to deinstall wine completly to figure out a couple misterious problems i am having lately.

OpenSUSE :: Wine - Remove Menu Entries After Uninstalling Programs?

May 26, 2011

The only MS program I need on my computer is Word 2007 for the equation editor to write/edit files from work. So after installing Wine I installed MSOffice2007. Excel worked OK (although I don't need it - I am perfectly happy with the Libre Office spreadsheet). Word however froze each time so I tried to uninstall and reinstall it. However I always got an error message when trying to uninstall with Wine. So I followed the advice of some strands in this forum and deleted the Program Files folder from the ~.wine directory. However the menus are still in Wine/Programs/Microsoft Office even though they lead to nowhere. I tried to reinstall but still I nothing happened. I presume the old entries still lead to the position where previously the .exe files were located. Now my question is either how can I remove these menu entries and try installing again - or even better - is there a Linux programme that can read/edit the equations written in Word 2007?

My wine programs show up under 'other' and I have: wine configuration; wine file; wine boot; wine software ininstaller and winhelp (not sure if the last is wine or not) Just can't navigate my way through any of these to find how to actually RUN wine. Also, if you think this is not the best way to fully use poker websites (I'm not happy with the iphone style no download play) or iTunes.

Ubuntu :: Removing All Traces Of Browsing History From Computer

Dec 27, 2010

I have the vlc media player plugin which lets me open up videos in my browser instead of having to download them. Sadly, this plugin is very buggy and makes videos freeze sometimes. This happened to me while watching a video and I right clicked it to see if I can save it to my hard drive from there. I saw an option to "Open in Movie Player" so I did, and it played the video perfectly. I shut down my computer and turned it back on later, and when I opened up Movie Player, under File>, the videos still show up, and I can play them. I tried removing all browsing history from Google Chrome and checked my flash video settings (removed all sites and cookies) but the videos still show up in Movie Player. Also tried emptying the temp folder. Is there any way I can get these videos off my computer?!?!
