Ubuntu One :: Newly Added Files To Folder Not Synching
Jan 7, 2011I was able to synch my folders to Ubuntu One.However, when I add any new files to one of the synched folders, it is not synching up to Ubuntu One. I've tried re-synching the folder where I place the file and all I get is the circular arrow with the ! in it. I've also tried disconnecting and connecting in the Device tab on "Ubuntu One Preferences". Am I missing a procedure here or is this a bug? I would hope that adding, removing, or updating files would automatically be synched.

Mar 3, 2010I have recently added 2 500GB sata drives to my machine. I have a Supermicro X6 mobo (yes its rather old) and the Bios recognizes the drives as Master 2 and Master 3 ide , but the linux will not recognize the drives. The system is running RH8 kernel 2.4.31 and i dont have the option of upgrading the kernel at the moment. Is there any way to get the linux to recognize the drives?

Apr 2, 2011Whenever I navigate into a folder containing video files, my entire system freezes/crashes. The keyboard, video, and the entire system become entirely unresponsive.
I can recreate the problem every single time by simply opening a nautilus window, then going into a directory containing 1 or more video files (avi, mkv, mp4, etc.). It doesn't seem to matter whether I stay in the folder, or quickly navigate away either. Seconds later, the system freezes entirely, to the point where my capslock key does not even toggle the capslock indicator.
I first noticed the problem when I installed 10.10 months ago on my Acer AspireOne D250. I had recently upgraded to ubuntu natty beta hoping the problem might have been fixed.

I want all newly created files by 'user1' to have the default permissions of:
1. "owner can read and write"
2. "group can read and write"
3. "other can read only"
Permission 1 and 3 are already default. But I would like number 2 to be default as well. (the current default for group is read only).

May 1, 2011This has been bugging me since I upgraded to 11.4. First I noticed that most of the time when a file is copied from an application (say, downloaded from Firefox) in to a directory that Konqueror does not show the new file until I hit "Reload".OK, I could live with that, annoying as it is. Why it can't recognize that a new file has been added to the directory since the last display refresh when I switch to that window I don't know, but fine, whatever.
Then I installed Firefox 4.0 - and now frequently when I open the "Save As" file browse dialog, it doesn't see any of the files recently added either. I put in a complaint to Mozilla, but apparently only ONE other person on the planet has ever seen this happen. But it was never the case before, either in earlier Firefox or earlier openSUSE releases. I was always able to see the files I previously saved to that folder when saving a new one.
And today it happened in Kaffeine which I don't remember ever seeing before. I opened the "Open File" dialog and it couldn't see a video file I had just downloaded. When I closed Kaffeine and then restarted it, it could see it.Is this something that has been ongoing or is it new? I can't find anything via Google Search to explain it. Is there some setting somewhere that needs to be tweaked? Is it a file system problem?

Jan 29, 2010CentOS 5.4 install, likewise open standard install (For active directory authentication).I have a license service which requires a license.txt be in the users home directory.The group owner for license.txt must be the same as the license service. Whenever a new domain user logs in, it creates the all the appropriate files but the group owner for license.txt is the users domain group. My current workaround seems like more effort than it's worth, is there another way to get this process solved easier/more secure?
- copy the license.txt into /etc/skel
- created a script to check for the presence of license.txt, check it's permissions and change them if necessary
- gave the domain's group sudo [nopasswd] access to the script (the script is not writable)
- execute the script in /etc/bashrc

Aug 15, 2010I downloaded an ISO of some nes roms and used the archive manager to extract the files. It extracted them but it added a ;1 to the end of the extension. I don't want to go through 3500+ rom files and delete the added ;1 to the nes extension. How can I prevent this in the future?

For some n/ folder, if I realize that n/ actually does not exist in local file system, I do not want to wait for it. Hence I will keep processing (n+1)/ folder, and so on.
However, when processing some (n+m)/ folder, previously not processed n/ folder may have been created on local file system. In this case, I do not want to miss processing it, but somehow detect its creation and process it. After processing n/ folder, I want to continue from (n+m+1)/.

This is because this is the default umask, and I cannot change a users umask. I actually only want files created below a particular directory to have group write access, inheriting this behaviour to newly created directories properly.I'm not on samba or NFS, I have to do this for SSH users.The filesystem is ext3.I started to fool around with ACLs, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

Feb 16, 2011I've just upgraded my serv from fedora8 to fedora12 and got a problem. The httpd and vsftpd add a junk in the beginning of html files. Png, tar and other files are ok. When I make a request to localhost everything is ok.

I would however like to use Banshee, but in Banshee all my iPod 5G-music is displayed under the video folder, while the music folder is empty. Any idea why?And also I have several albums with different artists on them, which gets spread out on i.e. 10 single albums even though they belong to the same album. This happens - as far as I can tell - after I've accessed the iPod from Rhythmbox (which is part of the reason why I wanna use Banshee).
