The removal of the Firefox-Shiretoko Browser from the Main US Repository really wrecked me... I have no back buttons, no URL display, and all my bookmarks now have to be moved... (if I can figure out how to move them...) ooo, i miss my black-skin in Facebook...
View 4 RepliesI discovered a couple of applications that can't miss in the Ubuntu repository. At the moment these applications work by the context menu scripts, i suppose it is because are not fully integrate into the distro. The applications are:

Bottom line up front: I'd like to move my window controls from the right corner to the left corner in 10.04.
All of my window controls (minimize, close, etc) are back on the right hand corner of the window, and after my upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 they were on the left. I briefly tried E16 with gnome, didn't like it, and removed all. This caused metacity to become unconfigured, and now all of the themes have window controls on the right.
Where can I fix it so the window controls are back where the 10.04 ubuntu wanted them?
How can we fix this? I am using Ubuntu Lucid, and maverick in a couple of minutes, once the upgrade is completed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI started an upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04 and it stopped with the message: Ubuntu desktop is listed to be removed but is on the removal blacklist. Then it restored back to 8.04. I don't know how to resolve this - it would be alright to remove the old Ubuntu desktop.

*Install Ubuntu Tweak from [URL]
*Start the program from Programs/System tools
*Go to Desktop - Windows manager settings and switch it from Left to Right.
Nautilus goes back and forward with alt-left and alt-right.
Just like firefox only firefox responds to my corresponding mouse buttons.
How can I get Nautilus to do that?
If I can't get Nautilus itself to do that, I thought I could bind the buttons to alt-left and alt-right in CCSM. But I don't know how to enter keystrokes as a command.

When ubuntu decided to move the close minimize maximize buttons to the left side, then here is your solution! i wrote this little script to help:
just go to your terminal and type this: (replacing /where/you/put/it/ with where you actually put the file) "sh /where/you/put/it/MoveButtonsToRight.sh"

i just updated from karmic 9.10 to lucid 10.04 using the online upgrade option. so far everything is working great. the only issues i am having seem to involve firefox. when i visit videos i get the message "your browser is no longer supported. please upgrade to a modern browser." i am running 3.6 "canonical" so it is "modern". i am able to watch videos after i close the message. it's just an annoyance to get this message every time i view a video.
next, is on some websites (like this one) it will not supply my login info. but on a few sites (like ebay) it does supply my login info. not sure why some sites work while others don't. the info is there when i look under my saved passwords....

However when I select the repository view in th esoftware manager it shows this repository as empty. Other repositories work. I have checked the link to the repository to be valid. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you resolve it? Do I need to log an issue for this. If so what info about my system do i need to supply?

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 I'm trying to get the system to use the 8400GS to run X windows and the GTX285 to use as the compute device. Everytime I start up my system with both cards it always uses the GTX285 as the display device. How do I configure it to use the 8400 instead? I've tried the nvidia settings program and I don't see how to do this. Do I need to change something in my xorg.conf ? I don't know much about editing this file.

So my sources.list has this line:

But now I see these has not been updated since november 2009. Is there a newer repo somewhere? I know you can download opera from the opera website - but that is too much work when you have many computers to manage.

Would like duplicate up and back buttons that always corraspond to each pane of the window so I need not worry about which pane has the focus when I go to use the bauttons.I am hoping to find the functionality anywhere anyhow. I have been using the default Daulphin file manager but don't care if I need to change to a different one.

After that, buttons that are selected are with two white lines. One on the top, and one on the left. I don't know what is it all about, but I think it may be nvidia's problem.
I have extended desktop working on my netbook (finally, by turning off compiz), but now Gnome prefers my netbook's main screen as the main display (with the panel and such) instead of my external monitor.How can I switch this? I don't see any setting for it in the Display dialog.

I have read many places about editing the xorg.conf file and have done so successfully under Ubuntu in the past. I have successfully installed VMware Tools and everything is working as expected except the side buttons on the mouse. I have no current xorg.conf file

The only extension that isn't working is FEBE which is incompatible w/ firefox5beta (profile, extension and preference backup). Have to use FEBE beta7 under Firefox4 so I don't think a compatible release for Firefox5beta is going to come out any time soon.
View 9 Replies View Relatedthe size of the min,max, close buttons in the corner of firefox. They are very small and I can't find a way to increase them. I've tried different themes but that doesn't work.
The other thing I would like to increase is the size of the tabs. I DON'T WANT TO MAKE THEM LONGER, I WANT TO MAKE THEM TALLER so they are easier to hit when laptop is hooked to TV. Right now they are very short and I use the mouse on the arm of my chair (cloth) and it's a little difficult to hit them.
I've searched and read tips for the past week and none have what I need. They all tell me how to make the tabs longer or shorter and how to add or remove close boxes in the individual tabs. These don't do what I need done. Can these simple things be done in firefox or am I SOL?

Choosing Main Menu>Places>Downloads, for instance, generates a little disk activity, but never displays a window with the contents of the Downloads directory. In an effort to fix the problem, I just upgraded from 10.4 to 1.10, but the same thing still happens. How do I get the Main Menu>Places icons to display the appropriate windows?
View 6 Replies View RelatedUsually the menu bar, and menus, are displayed within the applications main window. With a small screen this obviously wastes space so my idea is to reserve a location, small square space probably on a corner, on the screen that when clicked it will pop out the current selected applications menu, allow selection, and then disappear again. The application itself would look fullscreen, or if windowed will still not have a menu bar but access available via the "square."
Likewise instead of the usual task bar and "applications/places/system" menus (ala, ubuntu) a second square would be reserved which would pop-out and show the running tasks, followed by the menus, and allow selection, then disappear. Is this possible with GTK+ as it stands, as I'm guessing that by default everything must be contained within an applications main window?
Although having said that, gimp allows the tool windows to be external to the edited document, so perhaps it would be possible to make the menu bar into a toolbox? I guess the difficult problem would be how to make the currently selected applications "tool square" be on top when there could be multiple applications running. The "tool square" and "task/menu square" could be transparent (maybe just an outline) so that although always there they wouldn't hide any underlying windows/programs/etc.
Basically the idea is to get rid of wasted screen, in ubuntu (on gtk/gnome) a minimum of 5 "bars" is wasted screen real-estate:- 1, Running aplications: 2, Ubuntu's main menu bar: 3, Applications status bar: 4, Applications menu bar: 5, Applications description (min/max/close) bar. Take all the above and replace it with two clickable, potentially invisible, squares say where the default "hide all windows" and "deleted trashcan" icons currently reside.

The install did work without errors and is listed correctly on yum but isn't working when I test a php script.
So now I need to downgrade back to the php 5.1 but yum is now stuck on this atomic repository, how do I get back to the Centos repository and downgrade PHP to 5.1?
