Ubuntu :: Mounted Drive No Longer Repsonding Correctly?

Sep 27, 2010

I have a secondary harddrive that is auto mounted through fstab at startup in the /mnt/media_drive folder. I have not had any problems out of it until today.

I was trying to get the computer to act as a PS3 media server. I installed pms-linux, couldn't get it working, removed that, installed ushare, didn't like that, uninstalled that and reinstalled pms-linux. Now the PS3 sees the folder, but nothing else does. When I ls -l the /mnt/media_drive folder, I get this:

Code:
derek@shop:~$ ls /mnt/media_drive -l
ls: cannot access /mnt/media_drive/audio books: Permission denied
ls: cannot access /mnt/media_drive/playlists: Permission denied
ls: cannot access /mnt/media_drive/Christmas: Permission denied
ls: cannot access /mnt/media_drive/DVD_temp: Permission denied
ls: cannot access /mnt/media_drive/OTR: Permission denied

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 External Encrypted Harddrive Not Correctly Mounted?

Nov 14, 2009

i have an external harddrive which i encrypted scince opensuse 10.2 with luks. Now i installed opensuse 11.2 its impossible to me to mount this drive correctly.

the harddrive was recocnized in my former opensuse 11.0 correctly as luks encrypted and during installation yast installed the kernel module and encrypted the harddrive so that i regulay could mount it on boot by giving the password for that harddrive. Scince opensuse 11.2 however yast thinks this is an dmcrypted partitoon and tries to unlock the harddrive using dmcrypt which of course fails.

does somebody know how i can encrypt and mount the externeal drive automaticly?

i have made a backup of /etc before i made a new installation of opensuse 11.2. is the possible to use the old fstab entries for that after installing luks?

Networking :: Certain Websites No Longer Working Correctly?

Feb 24, 2011

Starting today I cannot log into [URL] on Linux. Whenever I try to login, it just takes forever and then either Chrome or Firefox tell me that perhaps the site no longer exists. It works perfectly fine on Windows. Strangely it also does not work on my Roku box and is working sporadically on my PS3. I would think it was my ISP or my router if it wasn't working perfectly fine on Windows.

I AM NOT TRYING TO WATCH NETFLIX ON LINUX. I know that doesn't work. I'm just trying to update my queue. I'm having this problem both on Fedora and Ubuntu (latest stable releases on both). I know it's not just loading from cache on my Windows machine because I'm going to pages that I have never been to and it's working just fine. Now, I have not tried signing out and in because then I'll be up a creak. OK, I installed another browser on my Windows computer and I'm able to sign into Netflix just fine. So it's not a sign-in issue.

WHY DOES THIS WORK ON WINDOWS? It's the same browsers - Chrome and Firefox on Linux and Windows and the same network.

ALSO, flickr is not working correctly - I cannot make any comments in the discussions (but can on photos which is ajax-y).

update: also checked a Linux computer using Linux Mint that hasn't been turned on in 2 months. I know it was able to access Netflix back then. Nothing has been changed - not even updates. It also cannot access Netflix. Either taking forever to load [URL] or when trying to login.

via looking in Konqueror, I saw it's trying to go [URL] and that's what makes it so that I cannot connect to [URL] if it considers me to be signed in. And here's what Konqueror said:

The requested operation could not be completed

Ubuntu Servers :: Cron Job Backup - External HD No Longer Mounted

Dec 23, 2010

I'm running a cron job every night to dump a MySQL database to an external hard drive. It works, however when I check on it the following morning the external is no longer mounted and the XFS log file is corrupted. If I run

Code:
xfs_repair -L /dev/sdf1
It works, but then I get these issues:
Code:
XFS: Filesystem sdf1 has duplicate UUID - can't mount
I can reset the UUID, but it's difficult to have to do this every day.

Ubuntu :: Add More Space - C Drive Is Mounted And The E Drive Will Not Mount

I have just installed Xubuntu and suprisingly it did not ask me to create a partition within its installer like Ubuntu does. So now, I am left with 150mb of free space. I want to expand that amount. The problem is, I do not know where it has been installed on. I have a C and an E drive. Currently, the C drive is mounted and the E drive will not mount even if i press the mount button. Does anyone have a solution?

Ubuntu :: Grub Won't Correctly Recognize OS On Second Drive?

Mar 27, 2010

I have 2 internal harddrives.

I installed Vista on sdb1 and later Ubuntu on sda1.

When I boot up, I am given choice of OS's to boot into. That worked fine until I formatted sdb1 and installed Windows 7.

Now when I boot, I am given the exact same options as before, and when I select the the old "Vista" Menu item, it gives me an error that it can not find some long serial number. The number is not my drive serial number. That number is completely different.

I can still boot into Ubuntu with out a problem.

Now, in order for me to boot into windows, I have change the BIOS boot order. That is obviously not ideal.

Ubuntu :: Second Hard Drive Does Not Recognized Correctly

Jun 8, 2010

I had windows 7 installed on my machine and decided to go with a ubuntu win7 dual boot. The install went fine, but Ubuntu doesn't see my second HDD as anything but empty. My second HDD I set up in win7. It is actually two 320GB HDD striped together. It is holding alot of data that I would like to be able to access from both win7 and ubuntu.

When I run fdisk -l in the terminal I get:
Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xf1c572ca .....

So Ubuntu sees the two HDD, just not as one with all my data on it like I see it in windows. Is there a way to set it up so I can use that second HDD (the two stripped) in both win7 and Ubuntu?

Ubuntu :: Unable To Stop Mounted USB Drive

May 26, 2010

Whenever I right-click on a mounted usb drive, I have the option to "safely remove" it. However, it I choose this option, I inevitably get the following error message:

Unable to stop drive
Error detaching: helper exited with exit code 1: Detaching device /dev/sdb

I'm currently using Lucid, but this happened on Karmic as well. The way I see it, the result I would like would be either:
1. The "safely remove drive" command just unmounts the drive (I can't imagine what else it does anyways, besides give me this stupid error)
2. There is no "safely remove drive" option.

Ubuntu :: Can't Write On Webdav Mounted Drive

Jul 16, 2010

I use davfs2 to mount a Webdav drive at startup. It mounts correctly and I have read access to all files my account gives me access to. One big problem though: I can't create of modify any file. I know it is not a user account problem because everything works well when I mount the drive in Windows 7 using WebDrive.

Here's the entry in /etc/fstab to automatically mount the drive:

Code:
http://someserver.local/docs /home/my_user/km_docs davfs user,rw,auto 0 0

The Webdav is hosted on a local SAP Portal server (if anyone is familiar with this).

I also tried to use Cadaver. It connects and reads perfectly. But when I try to create a file, I get a "409 Conflict" error, even the file has never existed on the server before.

Ubuntu Networking :: Drive Looks Different When Mounted Remotely

Dec 18, 2010

I have two machines. Desktop and X61s. I have a drive on Desktop called Ianthe. This is in /media. This is remotely mounted on my X61s machine (a laptop), as /media/Ianthe. It automounts when I boot it up. BUT, the same drive looks different when viewed on the remote machine. An example is a certain directory, which when viewed on Desktop has 21 files in it, but when viewed on X61s has on 7 files in it.

If, on the X61s machine, I go to Network > Windows Network > LBBARNET > DESKTOP > Ianthe and navigate to the relevant folder, I can see all 21 items. But if I mount it, I can only see the 7. I have tried rebooting X61s, but it remains the same. The permissions on all the files in the folder on Desktop are identical, so I can't see any permission reason why this should happen. And, if I copy one of the files on the Desktop which doesn't appear on mounted view on X61s then the copied version appears immediately on both views.

fstab on Desktop

Code:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>

General :: Ubuntu - Find The Device Associated With A Mounted USB Drive?

Jun 23, 2010

How do you find the device (e.g. /dev/*) for a mounted USB drive in Linux (Ubuntu 10.04)? I'm trying to format a Cruzer USB flash drive, and when I plug it in, the icon for the mounted filesystem appears on my desktop. However, when I open GParted, it doesn't list the filesystem as an option to partition.

The recommendations I've found through Google include monitoring tail -f /var/log/messages, which they claim should list the device name when the drive is mounted, but this never happens for me. I've also read that the USB drive would usually be linked to /dev/sdb, but this appears as a broken link on my filesystem. How else would I find the device?

Ubuntu :: Karmic 64bit - Mounted Drive Keeps Disconnecting?

Mar 8, 2010

About every couple of days, my linuxfiles mount will disconnect. I notice this because I have created a symbolic link from my user's home folder to this drive. So when I log in, if the drive isn't mounted I get the following errors:

Quote:
Could not update ICEauthority file
/home/johnathan/.ICEauthority
Quote:There is a problem with the configuration server. (usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)

I keep having to remove the mount folder and then readd it. Then I have to reapply the permissions for it to connect back to those files. How can I correct this? This only happens to this mount, the others stay connected with no issue. Also, when I log in and I have this issue... I cannot get out of this or log off unless I shutdown my laptop... is there another way? I guess I could do an init 3 from the CL.

Fedora Installation :: Internal Hard Drive Not Seen Correctly As Sdb?

Aug 24, 2009

I went through the Fedora 11 DVD setup process up to the partition screen, which does show my external SATA drive correct as; /dev/sda when connected by eSATA, but it shows the internal drive which is a standard IDE, as; /dev/sdf , when it should be as; sdb, why ? I did run that fdisk -l in a terminal from one of my other installed Linux, and it did show drives as correct, ( sda, sdb ). I think this may be a issue related to the digital media card reader built into this 2006 Gateway desktop computer being detected as drives like Windows does and assigns drive letters, or is this some bug in Fedora 11 ?

Fedora Hardware :: F15: DVDs Drive Not Working Correctly?

My DVD-ROM drive seems to have issues under Fedora 15.This is the "normal" spin with GNOME3, all updates have been installed.First off, the drive seems to get "stuck" will not eject any media once inserted.Occaisionally, if I just keep pressing the eject button, the media tray will jump out, but then will immediately pull itself back in without any interaction from me.Second issue: video DVDs do not mount. It does not seem to matter if libdvdcss is installed or not. When a DVD video disc is inserted, the DVD drive completely disappears from Nautilus' Computer window. Once I eject the DVD (after pressing eject 50 times) the drive comes back to the Computer window. The drive is a Plextor DVD-RW PX-755SA connected via SATAI have tried using either regular IDE or AHCI configuration in the BIOS for it, no change either way.The drive works fine under Ubuntu and OpenSUSE, but I like F15 better and would like to get this fixed.

Ubuntu :: GEdit Won't Save On Mounted Network Drive (cifs)

Jun 28, 2010

I have a line in the fstab file which automatically mounts a network drive every time I start up Ubuntu. I browse to a text file on the network drive and open it using gEdit and make changes to it. Then, when I hit the save button, a bright red warning appears:

Could not save the file [path here] gedit cannot handle file: locations in write mode. check that you typed the location correctly and try again. This also happens if I do save as. Then, after this error appears, the file actually disappears (gets deleted) from the network drive and in order to save it, I have to select save as again and type in the original filename. The line in my fstab file is:

//files.example.com/username /media/Network-Drive cifs uid=myname,umask=000,credentials=[cred file here],domain=mydomain 0 0

I'm not sure if this has something to do with the file permissions or gEdit itself or using cifs to mount. When I use the "ls -l" command on the file, I get

-rwxr-xr-x 1 myname root 7402 2010-06-28 01:14 textfile.do

which should be fine since the user has all permissions.
