Ubuntu :: Log The Command Output's History That Are Previously Printed Messages In The Terminal To A File?

is it possible to log the command output's history that are previously printed messages in the terminal to a file? that is the first command output when i first opened terminal through the last command.
I am using openSUSE 10.3.When I install software from tarball then to record time required I send output of date to beg.txt(when installation begins) and end.txt (when installation finishes).How can I append output of date to a file so I don't need two files?
Is there a package I can download for Ubuntu that would allow me to type in,for example, cd [tab key] and then it would go through the recent cd commands I've typed in?
I want to write a driver in c so that when i released the key some message will printed in output screen. The driver should be for arm.I have a driver which read the key when it is pressed.But i want the both (means key press and release).

I moved from a Linux environment from one company to another and one annoying difference came out:When I used to run an application in a terminal (no GUI), the transcript lines were presented one the window - when the window was full then the scrolling of the lines would continue only if one hit the space bar to proceed (of course waiting to user input did not stop the run).
In the new environment the behavior is different - transcript lines keep going on and on so I need to scroll up - and moreover each page-up command is cancelled by the new lines appearing.perhaps this is also reproduce with other Linux commands , say "find" or "ls".
I would like to capture all output spewed to a terminal session including processes that are terminated that were invoked from a script running in a terminal window. this is beyond capturing just stderr and stdout . for example
{ ./script } 2> stderr.cap 1>stdout.cap
if script is terminated (including because of memory violations) I get spewed output to the terminal I would like to capture that spewing to a file automatically or to a bit bucket /dev/null Is there another filehandle which can be redirected to do this? If so how or is there another way???
I sometimes stick my neck out and provide somewhat detailed, and often risky, "Mr-fix-it" remedies for boot problems. Now, I know it's possible to amend each command with "whatever_command > whatever.txt" in which case it'll place the command output in a file in /home.
But if you're directing someone to run a lot of commands as I did here is it possible to save the output of all commands to a .txt file without amending each command?
Or is it already saved somewhere that I'm not yet aware of? I wouldn't be surprised if the latter were true, I just haven't yet found it
I'm trying to create an iso file in a terminal with the following command: $cat /dev/sr0 > nameofdisk.iso I get the following error cat: /dev/sr0: Input/output error I already checked and my optical drive is indeed /dev/sr0. I've hunted google a few hours trying to figure it out. Does anyone know why I'd be getting this error?
I know how to redirect the output of a terminal to a file. For example, if I want to list all the files in ~/Documents and output to a file called test.txt, I would do this: ls ~/Documents > test.txt The question is, can I copy the output to test.txt AFTER I have carried out the command? This would mean that I wouldn't have to know in advance whether I want to copy the output to file. I want to do something like this: ls ~/Documents Then this: <bash command for copying standard output to test.txt>
Is there one command that will let me record an entire terminal session (with any possible errors) to a text file while also seeing all output on screen too? I know it can be done for individual commands, but I'm looking to do this for an entire session where the individual commands will be normal (i.e., not piped into tee, etc.). It would be even better if the command prompt is captured too. The obvious utility of this makes me think someone surely has come up with a solution long ago (probably in the 60's).(I'm sure it goes without saying, but subsequent output in that session should be appended to the file. The file should contain the full history, with all output and errors, of the session.)
I am trying to grep multiple numbers from file, grep does have the -f option for that.

I know I screwed up something. I was using Ubuntu 10 minutes ago without a hitch. Then I tried reducing the time I needed to select something in GRUB. So basically, I found this command:

This seems so simple when doing it from command line but I'm not able to accomplish it inside a script. I am trying to put output of following command into a text file:

Where FIL is a variable that contains path of the file to which to output command. I am running this command in a shell script from where I want to email contents of $FIL as attachment using mutt. But I am always getting 0 byte file. Also if I examine in directory the file is of 0 byte length.
For example I want a file to be processed by sed, and then overwrite the file with sed's output. I would try this: Code: sed '<regex goes here>' myfile > myfile But it doesn't work as expected, instead it empties the file (I am thinking that as the first byte comes out of sed, it overwrites the whole file and sed has nothing more to do). How can I make this work?
Bash's command history is great, especially it is useful when adding the history -a command to the COMMAND_PROMPT.However, I'm wondering if there is a way to log the commands to a file as soon as the Return key is pressed, e.g. before starting the command and not on completion of the command (using the COMMAND_PROMPT option would save the command once the prompt is there again).
I read about auditing programs like snoopy and session recorder like script but I thought they're already too complex for the simple question I have. I guess that deactivating that script logs all the output of the command would lead already in the right direction but isn't there a quicker way to solve that probelm?
I want to scan a particular directory recursively and run a particular command with each file as input. For this I am using "find /dir/path". I dont want to write any long script containing loop on the output of "find". I want a single command which will allow me to run a command on each file of the "find" command output.
