Ubuntu :: Installation Downloading Amd.iso.torrent - Firewall Access Allowed

Apr 12, 2011

I am trying to install ubuntu on my windows 7 OS using the wubi installer. The installer is trying to download amd.iso.torrent, but I guess it should be downloading i386.iso.torrent. At, the same time I am getting permission denied even though I allowed access from my firewall.

Ubuntu Networking :: Torrent Downloading In 11.04 Causes Unstable Wireless Transfer

Jul 2, 2011

Every time I download torrents in Ubuntu 11.04 on my desktop, using Transmission or Deluge clients, the wireless transfer speed abruptly drops off, becomes very choppy, and in general doesn't remain stable. It's not only the torrent download that slows down, but it's everything including web surfing, even though I'm not maxing out my connection speed. It's not that I'm getting disconnected from my router, it's just that the wireless transfer speed drops off, becomes intermittent, and never gets back up to full speed.

At first I thought that my ISP was throttling my connection, but this issue doesn't happen with a direct cable connection to my router, nor did it happen when I was running Ubuntu 10.04 before. It also doesn't happen when I'm downloading the exact same torrents over wireless using my netbook running Ubuntu Netbook Remix. This issue ONLY seems to happen when using a bittorrent client while on wireless on Ubuntu 11.04 on my desktop. I can max out my internet connection speed by streaming videos, downloading from FTP, etc. using wireless just fine, and the transfer speed remains stable. This also seems to happen with a couple of different wireless USB adapters (rt73usb or rtl8187 drivers).

OpenSUSE Network :: Firewall Sending Messages For Allowed Port?

Mar 23, 2010

In the firewall, I opened port 5900 for TCP traffic. Now the console is displaying packet information whenever a connection is made. Why does it send a message to stdout/stderr for an allowed connection? How can I stop it? Logging level is set to critical only, and not-accepted packets should only be logged for the internal and DMZ zones.

Debian :: Configuration Could Not Be Loaded - Access Not Allowed

Apr 17, 2010

I have recently installed Debian 504 AMD64, when I try to access "System" --> "Administration" --> "Users and groups" logged in as root, I get the following message:
"The configuration could not be loaded. You are not allowed to access the system configuration."
The system does not even ask for a password and the result is the same if I log in as a normal user.

I have installed from a single ISO DVD downloaded from the internet and read the DVDs of my previous Debian distro to install packages not included on DVD 1 of Debian 504 although I do not think this unusual approach can have any effect on the installation. I suspect I'll have to boot in single user mode but I have never done any troubleshooting at the command line.
(/etc/passwd and /etc shadow look OK).

Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Access Allowed When VPN Connection Lost?

Mar 16, 2010

As I view it, Ubuntu has a great security risk in that it still allows internet access when the VPN connection has been lost, for whatever reason. As it is now, when the VPN connection fails you get bumped back to using your regular IP, and whatever you are doing becomes transparent to anyone watching. This is simply unacceptable for an allegedly secure platform. Does anyone know of a way to fix this with a script/program, or is there a distribution/OS that allows this? Windows re-dials the vpn automatically, but still allows internet access in the mean time.

Fedora Security :: Why Is Httpd Allowed To Start Binded To Port That's Not Explicitly Allowed?

May 28, 2010

While reading some papers on securing apache with selinux, I have tried to bind httpd to port 3000 expecting to be blocked by the selinux, since port tcp 3000 isn't on the http_port_t list. However I was able to start the service...

I'm preety sure selinux is enforcing. Also, if I bind httpd to tcp 81 selinux denies the start of the service, as expected!Did I miss something? Why is httpd allowed to start binded to a port that's not explicitly allowed?

Fedora Servers :: Samba Doesnt Work In 12 - Not Allowed To Access

Mar 29, 2010

I am fairly new to Fedora or rather use it only for some school exercises I get. I have to setup a Samba server with some basic settings and it doesn't want to work. I first tried it on the Fedora VM I got from school (version 11). It somehow worked, but extremely bad ... the Windows client had to wait for over a minute to get either access or an errormessage, that the server was not found (but when entered the ip in the adressfield on top it worked (with a minute or more to wait)). I tried updating the VM - no improvement. So I decided to download Fedora 12, installed it and the Windows client gains instant access on first glance. But when I try to get access to a specific share, it only tells me, that I am not allowed to access it Oo.

Here is my config:

Code:

I even turned off iptables and Windows firewall.

The funny thing is: I tried exactly the same config on my homeserver (copy and paste), which runs Arch, and it works with no problem. But on Fedora I cant access it from nowhere. Not from WinXP, Win7 or any Linux. Simply won't work.

I dont have any gui on Fedora

Ubuntu :: Internet When Downloading Can't Access Web?

Oct 11, 2010

Note: Not upgraded yet, still using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx.Recently I've had a strange problem with my internet connection. When downloading something I am unable to use the internet with other net clients. An example, this morning I was downloading a very large set of backup files from an online server where I store backups. The files totalled 1.5 GB and I was downloading them using a SFTP client called FileZilla - during the download I was UNABLE to access the internet using Firefox, pages did not load at all - NOT slowly, but NOT at all, the "can't find the server" message was displayed by Firefox.LikewiseThunderbird was not able to check/download email. Confirmation that no internet access (other than FileZilla) was possible was shown by trying to 'ping google.com', the response "ping: unknown host google.com". During all this FileZilla was downloading very happily and quickly and as soon as the downloads finished everything worked as normal.

The problem is not limited to FileZilla, when downloading a file with Firefox the same problem occurred. It is as if when downloading something all other net connections are put on hold including DNS lookups. In the past my internet connection might slow down as a result of downloading but I'd still be able to access the web and email just slower as a result of the download. This problem has only started happening in the last week or thereabouts.

Networking :: Capture And Log All LAN Traffic - No Access To Router Or Firewall

Jun 10, 2009

I am looking for a solution for our LAN traffic monitoring and would like to use some opensource linux application. I have a linux box with two NIC cards and what I thought is the following: Our setup is as follows. Internet comes in through the router and into the firewall. From the firewall it goes into our switch and distributed among the workstations.
I have no access to the router or the firewall as they are centrally configured. I would like to place a device into the loop through which I could monitor the LAN traffic.

Can I put a linux box between the firewall and the switch and have all packets going through registered and logged? I have a proxy server (non transparent) and that captures some but not all. I would like to get all packets registered without interfering with the LAN etc.

OpenSUSE Network :: SuSE 11.2 Firewall Blocks Access After A Few Minutes

Dec 1, 2010

I have a fresh install of SuSE 11.2. I have installed Communigate Pro (Email server) and Webmin. From my workstation (on the same LAN), I can access the web interfaces for both CGP and Webmin right after the server boots up. But after about 10 minutes or so, I can no longer access either web interface. The server itself still functions normally. I can get on the internet with the server, and I can control Webmin via localhost:10000.

The only thing that allows me to connect to it from my workstation again is to either restart the server, or go into "Network > Linux Firewall" and click "Apply Configuration". What's going on that makes my remote access stop working?

Networking :: Access Firewall Public IP From Internal NATed DMZ Machine?

May 13, 2010

I could no handle/circumvent on the past week, despite of the several "googling" and documents reading. I will try to mention all needed bits... I'm managing a network with the following structure:

eth0: internal net
eth1: DMZ
eth2: 10 mbit/sec sync line with eight public /29 IP's + a /30 interconnection network. All public IP's must use the interconnection's network gateway.
eth3: ADSL with ppoe with fixed IP (ppp0).

Now, a few extra info:

- All internal traffic is routed through ppp0 except when it's destined for DMZ and public IP's range.
- DMZ traffic is routed either through ppp0 or eth2. This is done by source IP.
- eth2 has on IP from the interconnection network, and six public IP's are also defined on eth2. Command: "ip addr add ...."

[code].....
