May 8, 2010it seems a bit redundant to have an icon in the tray for Evolution and a Menu that serves the exact same function as that icon. Is there anyway I can disable the icon?

Oct 30, 2010I am annoyed with the pop up of volume control notification on GUI of my Ubuntu 10.10 ,The volume slide bar moves automatically.Its flickering on my screen and hinders my work.I wonder why ,I am new to Ubuntu ,how to put off this notification I tried

but the notification icon is gone but a small volume control frame appeared from now-where giving the same frustration.( I have installed Ubuntu10.10 on HP Pavilion dv5-1015nr laptop un-installing the preloaded windows)
OpenSUSE :: Disable Update Notifications / Notification Icon To Appear When An Update Is Available?
Mar 9, 2010Is there a way to disable all popup notifications in openSUSE while still having it check for updates periodically. What I would like is for the notification icon to appear when an update is available but to not popup the notification message, or worse, show that dialog stating that some software sources were not available when I'm on the corporate network.
Also, is it possible to disable some updates like the recent KDE one? I right click it and there is an option to disable notification of an update but the menu item is disabled.
Ubuntu :: Unity Launcher Icons - Changes Icon To Springboard Default Icon That New Launchers Use
May 1, 2011I've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.

The dock displays all apps' icons correctly though.The issue does not occur exclusively to Application Switcher (Alt+Tab), it also occurs with Scale (Super+W), Shift Switcher (Super+Tab).

Jul 24, 2010I have d/l and am using an icon theme I got from gnome-look. I like all the icons except for a few, specifically the trash, and would like to change them but I can't figure out how. I d/l an empty and full trash icon. I looked in the /home/username/.icons/themename folder and found the two trash icons that came with the theme (they were in ~/.icons/themename/scalable/places). Changed the names of the ones I d/l and replaced those current ones with them.how to do this? I would also like to change the Menu Bar icon back to the gnome foot.

May 16, 20103 computers in the house run various windows based programs and everything is fine with them connecting to the internet as far as putting in the security password to log in and get online.My old back up computer that I use in the basement that has Ubuntu 9.10 was working fine with the secured network situation up until today.I booted up the computer this morning and it automatically connected as it typically does and I was reading some email and then the computer froze, which on rare occasions it does.
Upon reboot I got a window that asked for the password for the Network Manager Applet which I supplied and then it asked for the password for the secured internet connection which I supplied.It would not connect. After numerous tries of disabling the wireless and enabling the wireless and entering the Network Manager Applet password and the secured internet password I still get no connection.
I notice that when it is trying to connect, the window comes up on the screen that shows that there is reception from the modem, but there is also a little "lock" icon like I'm locked out of the connection.I finally found a way to get rid of the Network Manager Applet password problem but that still didn't alleviate the connection problem.

May 25, 2010I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on a laptop of mine, and also a desktop. On this laptop, it's a clean install and I'm having a weird issue with the panel on the top of thescreen.ometimes when I start up the computer and login, I get two noticeable quirks. Instead of having the wireless icon in the tray next to the volume, I have two volume controls next to each other.The one icon, that takes place of the wireless icon, is not functional.The other volume icon functions as normal.
The other quirk is that my power button, used for choosing to logout, shutdown,etc,isappears. Instead, it shows two of my username next to each other (one is the legitimate one that lets you set your away status and such). And in place of the power button, is another username menu, but it is cut off by the edge of the screen and doesn't function.Has anybody had this problem before? Is there some kind of package I can update or reinstall to try fixing this? Sometimes the power button will be fine, but the volume icon will still double up.

Jun 18, 2010I am running Kubuntu 10.04 and i want to make some icons on the desktop to launch various telnet sessions. So i make a .sh using vi test.sh and then put in telnet 180.9.x.xx and save and quit. Then i chmod 777 it to make it executable and then moved it to my Desktop folder. But when i double click or right click and open with konsole nothing happens. I know it is probably something stupid which i have overlooked but when i have done this in Ubuntu in the past it has worked.

Then in system>preferences>main menu, I created a new item under menu>applications>internet and pointed to "flock-browser". The application works fine but I don't get that flock icon in the menu. Is there any way to get it? Its actually present in "icons" folder inside the flock folder.

I have both icons' .png files stored in an icons directory in my home folder. So I tried switching it back, but when I changed the icon of one app, the other one changed also! Now I can't seem to assign more than one custom icon to multiple AWN launchers. What is the deal?
