Debian :: Autologin And Update / Without The Password(s) / Su/sudo To Execute?

Oct 28, 2010

I have succesfully installed Debian with gnome-core, iceweasel and other useful packages and also followed this guide to autologin and start X. I noticed that the sudo chmod +s /sbin/halt and adding /sbin/halt
in ~/.bashrc made Debian refuse me to log out (from X) and 'log out' turns off the computer insted.Removing /sbin/halt from .bashrc turned everything to as i want it. Should I "repair" or remove something I created with chmod +s command or should I leave it as it is?

Also I would like apt-get(or aptitude) update to run after login (and before startx), so i added sudo apt-get update to .bashrc but it will prompt me with password. Is there someway I could do this without the password(s) which su/sudo needs to execute? This is not so important but it would be very nice to update the system on startup.

Programming :: Awk - Input From One Line - Execute Program - Input From Next Line - Execute Program

Sep 25, 2010

I have a file with two fields of numbers that I want to use as input for another program.

Code:

The above code does not work, as I think it would take the whole first and second fields as the input for one particular instance of the program 'inputbashangle'. What I want is to get the first two numbers from the first line of the file 'outfailtest', execute 'inputbashangle' with them, then move on to the first two numbers of the second line for all the lines of 'outfailtest'.

Ubuntu :: Possible To Execute Program From RAM

Feb 14, 2010

I was wondering if it was possible to execute a program from RAM, like having the file data in a bash script variable and then running it.
Something like this:
ls=`cat ls`
$ls
So is it possible to run a program without touching the hard disk and without creating tmpfs or ramfs (it would need to be standard user privileges).

I have such kind of problem recently. I need to run a command in the remote machine. The script's first line contains "source profile.xxx"

. ${CONF_XXX}/profile.perf

Therefore, when I run it this way: ssh root@pprh4 /scratch/pa/pa701/path/1.2/bin/plcclient.sh -s it says "profile.xxx No such file or directory" And another one is how can I use a specific file for storing my password so that I don't have to type it?

Ubuntu :: Rc.local Will Not Execute - Error

Jun 1, 2010

I have written a device driver and would like to load it automatically and generate the device nodes. I wrote a config script that I would like to execute at boot and added it to rc.local. It will not run at boot up and I have spent hours researching. The file is below:

#!/bin/sh -e
#
# rc.local

[code]....

If I execute this script from the command line, it works fine. But it does not work at boot up. The echo command is never executed. The link S99rc.local did not exist in any of the runtime directories. I created S99rc.local in /etc/rc2.d and linked it to ../init.d/rc.local. This did not help. The link /etc/rc2.d/S20rc.local already existed.

Ubuntu :: Apache2 + Tomcat6 - Jsp Does Not Execute

Jan 11, 2011

I am trying to setup Ubuntu with Apache2+Tomcat6. I can get the site up and running, however when I have a jsp file it does not execute, instead it just prints the full jsp to browser.

I am checking if there is a configuration issue that may be missed.

sudo /etc/init.d/tomcat6 status # shows fine

/etc/apache2/sites-available has a file for my site containing valid DocumentRoot

/home/user/sitename/webapps/examples
/home/user/sitename/webapps/examples/jsp
/home/user/sitename/webapps/examples/jsp/sample.jsp contains below text
<%= "hello" %>

When above page is visited in browser, it shows full html tags instead of displaying the output. It displays static pages fine.

Ubuntu :: Headless Server Won't Let Me Execute Exe

Jan 22, 2011

I have now had an Ubuntu desktop server on a very crappy server (network filesystem with enourmus latency) for a year and as the subscription will soon run out I opted for a slightly better one, still crappy but at least a "complete server" (cpu+mem+HD).And a headless installation of Ubuntu Server 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" instead of my Desktop version.I'm not using it for web pages or other 'ordinary' things though, I'm running my homemade MMORPG off of it and this new headless situation is a bit unclear to me.

I created an account and password with my root account, a folder with the username was created in /home/ and I uploaded my mmorpg executable there with an ftp client.I tried to change the whole folder (being root) to 777 but it didn't work either.
