View 1 Repliesi created a /tmp partition amd mounted it like this:" mount -o loop,noexec,nosuid,rw /usr/tmpDSK /tmp"
I know i can't execute things in /tmp now but is there a way to execute only one file and no more???
Is there a way to execute some command and then after the command completes utomatically reboot the system and then after the system reboots execute another command ? For example look at the sequence shown below(1) Execute command-1(2) After the command-1 in (1) is completed,reboot the system (3) Execute command-2(4) After execution of command-2 reboot the sytemIs there a way i can automate this process so that i need not reboot the system manually
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a file with two fields of numbers that I want to use as input for another program.
Code:
The above code does not work, as I think it would take the whole first and second fields as the input for one particular instance of the program 'inputbashangle'. What I want is to get the first two numbers from the first line of the file 'outfailtest', execute 'inputbashangle' with them, then move on to the first two numbers of the second line for all the lines of 'outfailtest'.
I was wondering if it was possible to execute a program from RAM, like having the file data in a bash script variable and then running it.
Something like this:
ls=`cat ls`
$ls
So is it possible to run a program without touching the hard disk and without creating tmpfs or ramfs (it would need to be standard user privileges).
I'm having trouble printing with CUPS. Turns out that none of the binaries under /opt/OpenPrinting-Gutenprint can be executed. Witness:

View 7 Replies View RelatedI was in the wrong directory when I did a chmod +x *.bin, so now all of my commands in the terminal come back with the error "Cannot execute binary file." From ls, to cd .. I get this error. I seem to be able to do things with sudo, but does anyone know how to fix all of my permissions so that basic terminal commands come back?

I have such kind of problem recently. I need to run a command in the remote machine. The script's first line contains "source profile.xxx"
#!/bin/sh
. ${CONF_XXX}/profile.perf
Therefore, when I run it this way: ssh root@pprh4 /scratch/pa/pa701/path/1.2/bin/plcclient.sh -s it says "profile.xxx No such file or directory" And another one is how can I use a specific file for storing my password so that I don't have to type it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have written a device driver and would like to load it automatically and generate the device nodes. I wrote a config script that I would like to execute at boot and added it to rc.local. It will not run at boot up and I have spent hours researching. The file is below:
#!/bin/sh -e
#
# rc.local
[code]....
If I execute this script from the command line, it works fine. But it does not work at boot up. The echo command is never executed. The link S99rc.local did not exist in any of the runtime directories. I created S99rc.local in /etc/rc2.d and linked it to ../init.d/rc.local. This did not help. The link /etc/rc2.d/S20rc.local already existed.
I have a strange issue on one of my machines. The same thing works fine on all the others. When I execute:
Code:
sudo -u myuser -i ls
I get:
Code:
/bin/ls: /bin/ls: cannot execute binary file
On the other hand if I just run
Code:
sudo -u myuser -i
and then run ls, it executes successfully, but I don't want to stay logged in as myuser I just want to run a single command.
I want to start my Ubuntu 10.04 and without logging in I need a command started. The command is setxkbmap .... So, I will not put the command in my .profile, nor in my .bashrc, because I am not going to login.

I have now had an Ubuntu desktop server on a very crappy server (network filesystem with enourmus latency) for a year and as the subscription will soon run out I opted for a slightly better one, still crappy but at least a "complete server" (cpu+mem+HD).And a headless installation of Ubuntu Server 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" instead of my Desktop version.I'm not using it for web pages or other 'ordinary' things though, I'm running my homemade MMORPG off of it and this new headless situation is a bit unclear to me.
I created an account and password with my root account, a folder with the username was created in /home/ and I uploaded my mmorpg executable there with an ftp client.I tried to change the whole folder (being root) to 777 but it didn't work either.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install this app called genBlast. It's a bioinformatics tool that does some cool stuff (I guess the actual use doesn't matter that much). Anyway, it comes as a .tar.gz folder with about a dozen executables in it; no compiling necessary. I extracted it to the desktop so I didn't have to worry about permissions, and then just tried to run it from inside the directory (it's a command line app).
All of the executables work with a ./ except one, and it's the most important one for that matter. When I go to run it, I get the error message Code: bash: ./genblast: cannot execute binary file I've checked permissions with ls -l, run a chmod 'u+x' just to make sure, and everything else I can think of. But it just won't work. Also, I just installed it on another computer and it works fine, so I'm pretty sure it's on my end.

I have a triple boot system with Ubuntu 11.04, Windows 7 and Windows-XP on it. My disc configuration is something like this... ('cause I think it would be required for you to understand my problem) I have a 250GB hard disk which was originally partitioned with Windows-XP in six partitions C,D,E,F,G and H (All NTFS type) with 'C' drive having Windows-XP on it and 'D' drive having Windows-7 on it.
I installed Ubuntu on the 'H' drive by partitioning it into two halves of approximately 20GB each. One partition is named 'New Volume' as per Windows naming scheme. On the other partition I installed my Ubuntu-11.04 OS. As per my plan I would be using this 'New Volume' for all my Ubuntu related data and software only. I want to install 'Ant' build tool for Java to be usable on my Ubuntu. For this, as described on the Apache Ant user manual I downloaded the 'apache-ant-1.8.2-bin.tar.gz' and extracted it. All this I did in the 'New Volume' drive.
Now as per the 'Ant' manual I needed to change a file's ('/media/New Volume/ubuntu files/software files/apache-ant-1.8.2/bin/ant') permission to executable, which is currently set to '-rw-------' and I want it to be '-rwx------'. I've tried various things such as 'chmod/sudo' and also tried changing the permission with the 'root' user, but so far I've not been able to change the permissions for this file. However, if I copy the 'apache-ant-1.8.2' folder to '/home' directory then I've been able to change the permission for the concerned file.
