Ubuntu :: Connection - "Wireless Networks" "disconnected"

May 9, 2010

I am a long time Windows user and hater. I am brand new to Ubuntu and am having a really hard time trying to get my wireless card working. I don't know much about computers, so if you ask for me to put in a command prompt I'll just give you the entire output because I never know what I should be looking for.

And if you need some hardware specs, how to find it. Again, in Windows I've never had to worry about that so I've never learned how. For now I can say that I am on a Dell Vostro 1500 and under "Wireless Networks" it says "disconnected".

Ubuntu Networking :: 9.10 - Multiple Wireless Connection - Disconnected

Feb 16, 2010

Since I have started to use Ubuntu 9.10, I have had multiple wireless connection troubles. First of all, it says the signal is 2 bars, when in fact my router is right next to me as of right now. Second of all, when I try to connect to it, it asks for my password 3 times, then says disconnected. I'm on a hardwire right now, it's across my keyboard, and I'm in a tangled mess.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connection - Internet Begins To Slowdown Then Get Disconnected

Feb 9, 2011

This is not the common problem that's on the stickied thread. I'm able to connect to my wireless network perfectly. I switch between Windows to game and Linux for desktop, coding, and hosting, so I can tell it has something to do with ubuntu 10.10. When I'm connected to my wireless network, at random times, my internet begins to slowdown, then I get disconnected from the internet, but the taskbar says I'm connected. This problem only happens in ubuntu and not Windows for some strange reason.

The applications that are usually open do not cause it, because it still does it even though I have little applications open (Google Chrome, gedit). When I'm on Teamspeak 3, I notice my ping rises to the 1000s randomly, and I get disconnected. Once again that only happens on Ubuntu.

Ubuntu Networking :: "disconnected" Message Under "Wireless Networks"

All works fine apart from wireless connection. lspci shows the card as: 01:03.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)

But still no wireless networks are available. Clicking on the network icon in the system bar (top right) there's just a "disconnected" message under "Wireless Networks".

Ubuntu Networking :: Intermitting With Connection To Wireless Networks

Jan 14, 2010

I have some problems with connecting to my wireless network (WPA2 security) on Ubuntu 9.10 64 bit. Upon boot I can sometimes connect and sometime it takes minutes or more to ask for my wireless key to connect. When I give my key, nm-applet keeps spinning until it asks for the password again etc.) At random it connects and disconnects from the AP (sitting at about 5m) At times I can get stable connections, but still disconnects at random.

On the same computer I also run Windows 7 (Vista before) with always instant connection. My Faithful Powerbook also always connects instantly. The problem above also appears in Live-CD mode or with Knoppix 6.2 Does anyone experience this behavious as well? I have a Dell 630c with an Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61). The AP is a Linksys WAG54G

Networking :: Wireless Error "the Network Connection Has Been Disconnected"?

Apr 6, 2009

This computer is using a Linksys WMP54G network adapter, and running Linux Ubuntu 8.10 with all of the latest updates. It was working fine for a couple months, then one day the internet quit working on it. I've tried playing with all of the settings, and can't get it to connect to the network. The windows computers in the house work fine. I also hooked my Linksys WUSB54GS USB network adapter and that worked right away. When I put the WMP54G back in, it will detect the networks but it won't connect. It gives the message, "the network connection has been disconnected", right away. Can someone please help with this. I work doing tech support for a small ISP and am excellent troubleshooting Windows but Linux is another story.

Fedora Installation :: F13 To F14 - Networks Now "disconnected"?

Jun 20, 2011

I've been running F13 for about a year on my Dell Latitude laptop with no problems. Both wired and wireless networking ran fine.Today I did a system backup (!) and then used Software Updates to download and automatically install Fedora 14After a smooth installation and reboot, I logged in and found:Network Manager shows "Wired network disconnected" and "Wireless networks disconnected".I have no option to shutdown the system. I can only log off and do a "hold the power button" shut down". Even the "shutdown" choice in the lower right of the screen does nothing.

Most important to me is #1 - re-enabling Networking. With an active ethernet cable in the laptop, the etho0 shows up in Network Manager. Without the ethernet cable in the laptop, the two wireless networks I have available show up in Network Manager. But clicking on either of the three choices changes nothing. Still no connectivity.System/Preferences/Network Connections shows Wired as Auto etho0, but "Edit" is greyed out. Network Connections shows Wireless as Auto Linksys and Auto NETGEAR (my two available wireless networks), and "Edit" shows Connect Automatically. But that's as far as I can get. Saving and restarting still shows networks as disconnected (even tho' the names of the networks and the strength bars of the wireless show correctly).

Ubuntu Networking :: No Longer See Any Networks Under "Wireless Networks"?

Jan 7, 2010

I could use Wireless network. I could see several different networks in my range. Then suddenly the network stoppedworking, and I can no longer see any networks under "Wireless networks".The Wired networks works fine.I tried upgrading ubuntu, but nothing changed. Just to confirm, I rebooted the computer in Windows Vista (Dual boot) andconfirmed that Wireless worked fine there. No hardware problem then. The suggestions I have found on this and other forums suggest looking at the output from iwconfig and ifconfig. But since I'm a n00b at Ubuntu I don't know what to make of it.

This is the output:

Debian Configuration :: Network Connection Has Been Disconnected

Jul 5, 2011

How to enable wifi? I downloaded and installed Debian 6.00 and as I couldn't get online with my Tenda USB Wireless Adapter. I downloaded Debian 6.00 again, this time the CD Net Install version with Firmware included. However, the added firmware version of Debian does not find my wireless either. My wireless adopter is shown as Bus 001 Device 003: ID 148f:3072 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT3072 Wireless Adapter. There is a Network Icon in the Panel which when clicked shows "Create New Wireless Network". I have put in my ISP related network and my password and rebooted, but all I get is the message on my desktop:

"The Network Connection has been disconnected."

That isn't very polite, is it? Who has disconnected it and why remains a mystery to everyone except the culprit(s). I think I must have missed a basic step in the Wifi Enabling process. I checked the Use Permissions and everything is fine there, as User I have permissions to use modems and do networking and so forth. Also I should like to try "modprobe" but I see the package isn't in Synaptic Package Manager.

Ubuntu Networking :: Script To Monitor Connection - VPN Client Disconnected

Jan 22, 2011

My promlem is that I wrote a few simple script to monitor the network connection as follows:

script 1 "netmonitor.sh"
#!/bin/bash
# /usr/local/bin/netmonitor.sh
HOST=www.google.hu
ping -c 1 "$HOST" > /dev/null 2>&1 .....

So it's run every 5 minutes, and it works well, when it sees host is down, it restart the connection, BUT as the log shows below, about a half an hour after using the connection (for example the ssh through the internet or the vpn clients disconnected) , br0 (probably) goes down or something and the script needs always restarting the connection...

The log:
Fri Jan 21 14:45:01 CET 2011 Network is ready! .....
Fri Jan 21 15:55:41 CET 2011 Network seems down, rechecking...
Fri Jan 21 15:56:21 CET 2011 Network is down, restarting interface br0!
Fri Jan 21 15:56:48 CET 2011 Network is ready after interface br0 restart! .....

Then if I use again, its ready... Is it possible, that if system don't use the connection after getting the DHCP lease, it close the connection automaticly? Anyway it works ok, but I don't want to owerwrite my router's flash in every 5 seconds with te new lease, my script probably defeat it soon if I don't do anything.

Ubuntu Networking :: Ethernet Connection Does Not Come Back If Cable Had Been Manually Disconnected

Jan 28, 2011

OS: Maverick Ethernet driver: tested with sky2 an sk98lin This has been driving me crazy for the last few months: if I unplug ethernet cable while my laptop is on reconnecting it sometimes does not bring the connection back.

And once ethernet is gone nothing that I try seems to consistently bring it back. Rebooting, disabling/enabling the driver, disabling/enabling NIC in BIOS, changing driver from sky2 to sk98lin, deleting connection from Network Manager, resetting the router - nothing helps. It seems to come back randomly a few weeks later. Once I used live Ubuntu on a USB stick and ethernet came back not only on a live distro but then when I rebooted also on my main OS. But when I tried that trick next time ethernet was missing in the live distro as well.

Also once I was able to revive ethernet but compiling sk98lin driver, blacklisting sky2 and rebooting. Of course next time doing the same routine did not help. The thing is - ethernet works fine with either sky2 or sk98lin and I can unplug the cable and plug it back in most of the time without any issues. But then every so often - bang and I'm stuck with only wireless until ethernet suddenly starts working again.

Fedora Networking :: F13 - SSHD Disconnected (Connection Closed)

Aug 8, 2010

I have installed Fedora 13 and updated it. I simply cant use ssh to connect to this Fedora, not even locally. I have enabled port22 in firewall settings and nothing. Tried to disable firewall completely and nothing. I have disabled SELinux (not sure if it has something to do with this, but... ) and nothing. Entered "ALL: ALL" in /etc/hosts.allow and still nothing. Dont know what to do anymore.

Here is what happens when I try to ssh to this machine, even from it:
[flibio@surf ~]$ ssh localhost
warning: Need basic cursor movement capability, using vt100
flibio's password:
Authentication successful.
Disconnected; connection lost (Connection closed.).
Connection to localhost closed.
[flibio@surf ~]$

Looking into Services > sshd and it says "This service is dead."
So I tried:
[root@surf etc]# service sshd restart
Stopping sshd: [FAILED]
Starting sshd: : OpenSSH_5.4p1 on
: FATAL: Creating listener failed: port 22 probably already in use! .....

And still I get disconnected whenever I try to ssh to this machine from anywhere. Services says that sshd is allways dead, even restarting it but I can only restart it by doing a pkill sshd before.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Says Disconnected - But It Isn't ?

Oct 1, 2010

I'm having problems with my Internet. I just recently downloaded 10.04 (went from 8.04) and now I can't get online! I could yesterday! I don't have access to the router, but the internet works great on all my Windows computers. On my panel it show's my wireless connection bars with an exclamation mark and says disconnected. I don't know what to do! It's a Toshiba Satellite computer.

Also, I can't update anything, or install anything because I don't have direct access to the router. I know there is a lot of information about this problem already, but everything I've seen needs me to download new drivers. If you know how to do it from one computer to another I can do that. Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom Wireless No Longer Recognizes Wireless Networks?

Jan 11, 2010

I've been running Karmic since it was officially released on my Dell Studio 17 (specs are in my signature) with a Broadcom wireless half mini wireless card.hen I installed Karmic, it gave me the option to install proprietary drivers for my video card as well as 2 Broadcom drivers, STA and one of the BC43 drivers. I installed all of these, and the only problems I had were with the audio. I spent a few days troubleshooting the audio and finally got PulseAudio set up for my card.

Almost 3 months later, I was making use of my wireless network at home, as I had done plenty of times over the previous 3 months, when I closed the lid (thus putting the computer into sleep mode) and took it to the hospital to stay with my fianc饠after her surgery. When I got to the hospital, I couldn't get their network to show up. Network Manager didn't even recognize the network. We had also brought my fianc饧s laptop (same machine with a slightly less powerful CPU and only 4 GB of RAM). She is running Windows 7, which detected the hospital's network with no problems. After trying to ad-hoc the hospital network with no success, I finally just gave up and played Sudoku and toyed with some graphics stuff in GIMP until we came home. Upon returning home, however, I was shocked that my card didn't even detect our home network.

I have been unsuccessful for the past 3 days in getting Network Manager to identify our wireless network. The wired network connects without issue and I am able to make use of a USB Belkin adapter, which identifies all 7 of the various wireless networks in my neighborhood, including our home network. While I would be able to simply carry my Belkin adapter with me in order to make use of wireless networks, I would really like to solve this problem with my Broadcom adapter. I've gone through the Ubuntu Wireless Network Troubleshooting guide, but I still can't get it to workOutput of lshw -C network:

Ubuntu Networking :: Pavilion Dv6 Wireless - Can't Find Local Wireless Networks

For some reason, ubuntu cannot find local wireless networks. In fact, the Broadcom wireless card Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n seems to be incompatible with ubuntu. I've tried numerous 'solutions' on the Internet, but none of them seem to work on my computer. Tutorials I've visited have recommended downloading the b43 drivers from the Synaptic package manager and also the bcmwl-kernal-source package. Nevertheless, the wireless never turns on and Additional Drivers never shows anything at all. After several exasperating hours of trying to get my wireless running I've decided to turn to the forum for help.
