View 3 RepliesIf possible I'd like to have the translucent/transparent windows that Windows 7 has, on CentOS. Is this possible and if so, how?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIn Maverick I could remove the last Gnome panel by editing gconf and removing gnome-panel from desktop > gnome > session > required_components.I've just updated to Natty and doing this makes no difference. I assume Unity is doing it now, or maybe zeitgeist?I've grep'd through .local and .config, and checked Startup Applications but it still loads gnome-panel every session.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to 11.04 I've been trying to remove the top panel in classic in the same manner as I did with 10.10.
gconf-editor -> desktop -> gnome -> session -> remove "gnome-panel" value.
This does not remove the top panel anymore. Relog and restart has been tried. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove it? I'm using AWN, so the top panel isn't useful for me
Solved: So I just randomly thought of changing my login session to user defined, and voila! Panel gone Guessing logging into classic just won't let you log on without it.
I am running natty (64bin) and recently it has stopped responding to either the shutdown or reboot command from the panel menu. When you select shutdown, and then hit yest to confirm, nothing happens. I looked at the logs and nothing seems to be generating any errors either. Not even sure how to trouble shoot this issue.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI hopelessly tried to find answers for my problems but I could not find a single person complaining about this one: I am using a Lenovo G550 laptop (which has an NVIDIA graphics card) accompanied by a samsung screen using TwinView configuration. I have some special effects enabled and they all seem to work fine.
My main problem is: When I double click on the top panel in a window and maximize its size (it can be an application, a directory window or a terminal, anything..) on Natty, I sometimes can reduce its size back by double clicking on the Natty panel and sometimes this does not work! In times this does not work (reducing by double clicking again), I have to use the rectangle button in the panel in order to reduce it back. In times it works, I can simply double click on Natty top panel or left click on the panel, hold it, and pull it down.
What the hell can be the reason? I somehow observed a strange relationship between this behaviour and thunderbird but I am not 100% sure. Can anyone offer some help?
And another irrelevant question:
Is there a way to make the mail/pidgin indicator that turns green when a new message/mail recieved jump or move or do some action? Because when working full screen it is really hard to notice that thing going green. Previously on 10.10 if i'm not mistaken you could make the pidgin indicator jump high and low as a notifier. Is there a way in 11.04 to achieve this?
Before upgrading to Natty I used to have a Banshee icon in my panel when the application was open - I could close the program but it would just minimize to the panel. Now when I open Banshee there is no icon in the panel. I checked the preferences menu to see if I could change this setting, but didn't see anything there.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been getting video error's in gnome-panel since I upgraded to Natty. It seems to become transparent on part of it, and my background covers it. I have tried deleting my gnome-panel preference's, to no aval. Does anybody know how to fix this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI changed it and got it working a long time ago but i installed 10.10 (great work BTW ) and have forgotten completely.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHaving just installed Natty on a new computer I want to set the background to a JPEG in my home folder. I click on the "Add" button, navigate to the folder and open the JPEG. the file is not added to the displayed list of background images. I had misunderstood something I clicked on the Help button of the dialog and got:
Unknown Error The file /usr/share/gnome/help/user-guide/en_CA/user-guide.xml could not be parsed because one or more of its included files is not a well-formed XML document.
Just upgraded to Natty and I cannot figure out how to change the calculator mode to scientific.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've updated Ubuntu from 10.10 to 11.04 natty. and noticed a complete view change which I don't like. all my top bars with shorcuts are gone! Then I found a link natty-narwhal and tried this command as I thought it will return my old view :sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install unity-2das a result I got the same view but with a cairo-dock bug and a black box around it as it's in the picture:My question is: how can I get back my old 10.10 view without re-install ? is it possible? if no then other question: how can I get back at least natty 3d back ?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need to add an option to my xorg.conf to enable "backing store", like this:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Miserable Old SVGA"
Driver "miserable"
Option"BackingStore""True"
EndSection
But I don't have an xorg.conf file in Natty. There are several conf files in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/, but I'm not sure which one to add it too (I can't find the Device section in any of them). I guess I don't even know if the "BackingStore" option is valid in the latext Xserver.
I've just bought myself a E-MU 1820M audio interface for use in home recording after seeing online that a number of people have managed to get it working. The card replaces a Terratec DMX 6Fire (which i only managed to get outs from, no in's). I have done everything and anything suggested all on the forums and websites i can find and still no in's or out's at all, and no lights on the dock functioning.
Having tried and failed on a number of things i decided to see if Alsamixer had picked it up, only to be shown a blank grey window with nothing showing. I purged ALSA and started again (I have even done a fresh install of natty in case it was anything else getting in the way that i had done previously) but to no avail. I am using ALSA driver 1.0.24, which is the latest version, and according to the ALSA website, the EMU support was addded in post-1.0.15, so all should be well.
I recently upgraded my clean install Ubuntu Studio 10.10 64bit to Natty 11.04 and whilst everything is working well (except for having no plymouth boot splash - but I'm looking into this) I have noticed that when I log in to the "Ubuntu" desktop (with the Unity launcher and Menu bar in the top panel) I can't seem to change how the time and date is displayed. It seems to be stuck showing 24 hour time only with no date no matter which setting I select in the 'Clock' tab of 'Time & Date Settings' menu.
The clock applet works perfectly when I log into the 'Ubuntu Classic' desktop and I am able to display the date and weather ok.
I have a laptop which I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 64bit to 11.04 as well and it doesn't have the same issue.
I thought it might have been a rouge Gconf setting so I dumped my entire gconf using
Code:
gconftool-2 --dump / > ~/Desktop/allgconf.entries
then restarted into recovery and removed my ~/.gconf folder entirely, rebooted again and logged back on. Apart from losing some settings like Evolution and Networking, which I reloaded, and my theme going back to the default theme, the problem still exists.
I just installed Ubuntu 10 for netbooks. I want to change the panel on top, but I can't seem to do anything with it. I right click one of the little buttons, and the 'remove" option is grayed out. On Ubuntu 8, you had to right click a blank space and select "properties", but there is no blank space on this panel so I can't do that.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to do is change the icon that the deskbar applet shows in the panel. I've read that you can change the icon that is in the text input box (url), but I've had no luck finding any thing to change the actual panel icon.
tl;dr version:
I want to change this icon: url
The icons in /usr/share/deskbar-applet/art/ don't manipulate this icon.
I'm using the Divergence theme, and I'm loving the transparent top panel. However, the font is dark, so I can't see anything! How can I change the font so it's white, but without changing other system fonts?
View 3 Replies View Relatedhow do I go about changing the icons that appear in the gnome-panel? I'm insanely picky about that kind of thing Here is a screenshot of what I mean, I want the IPblock icon changed to something more in-keeping with my theme
View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to change the style of the time and date shown on the panel for Karmic Koala? As shown on my attached screenshot located at the upper right corner, it does not show the year which is a bit vexing and I cannot figure it out how to change it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've done a bit of googling, and some searching around here, but to no avail, so I'm going to ask you lovely lot where I can find the icon location/s for: I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI found an old thread from 2005 on how to change the font color on the gnome-panel.
It worked for all applets on the panel except for the notification area and me-menu where the font remains dark.
How can i force the font to a light color on these two applets?
Also as i used the "clarlooks" theme for controls the status indicator is duplicated:
There is one instance in the me-menu and another in the notification area. How can i remove either? I find that the gnome-panel is a real hassle since 10.04. Not only it is not logically constructed, but it is inconsistent and not customisation friendly.
I use Ubuntu 10.10.I wanted to change the background of the gnome panel time and calender applet.I searched about this but only found out dated guides on changing the font in the calender which didnt work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust wondering, is there any possible way to manually force the colour change of the panel in ubuntu 11.04. I'm using this theme, /show.p...62&forumpage=5, but by default the panel is white without any gradient (v ugly). Does anyone know a way to edit a file to make it use the same panel as Ambience....or any other dark panel.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI like my bottom panel to auto hide. I have this setup on 2 computers. On one computer, it's much faster with hiding/showing than the other computer.Could it be a performance thing that effects it? mean, the one that's quicker is a quad core with 4gb of ram, whereas the one that's slower is a pentium 4 with 1gb of ram.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI frequently travel between San Diego and Boston. I am able to add "Locations" to Gnome's Clock applet, which seems like it should take care of time zone information (see attached screenshot). However, I can't figure out how to set one (or the other) as my current location so that it will update my time zone information.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow can I change the text colour on the panel from black to white?I am using Karmic 9.10 with clearlooks and crux window borders.I have changed the panel background to the Thai flag, but it is blue where the text lies, and white text is easier to read than black on a blue background.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to edit the themes in Ubuntu with more control then with the Customize feature? Customize lets you change the all the icons and folder icons to a particular set of icons but does not allow you to individually specify what icons to use for folders and file icons and what icons to use for the icons on the top launch panel that are on the right side of the panel by default like the Bluetooth Icon, UPS Battery status icon temperature and current condition icon in the calendar. Older versions of Ubuntu gave the user more control over how the launch panel looked, I thought I remembered an option to use 3-D icons on the launch panel in older versions of Ubuntu.
