View 3 RepliesI have Ubuntu 9.04 and just installed Sound Converter. I am trying to convert a bunch of .ogg files to mp3 to play on my iPod and it's not working so well. In the Sound Converter options I have is set to convert to high quality mp3. I choose the folder that the files are in and after a moment (slow laptop) Sound Converter populates, I hit 'convert' and it shows that the conversion completes in two seconds. All that it did was create the new folder structure of artist/album but there is nothing in there. Not sure what I am missing. I used Sound Converter before and it worked fine.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of .flac files downloaded from several sites. Most of them come with a .cue file, and the .jpg with the cover, etc. It seems it is the intention of the uploader that one rebuilds the original CDDA. However, if I had a stand-alone CD/DVD player with flac I would hardly see the point of converting the flac to cdda. Furthermore, I could even play the flacs with a software player although, in this case, the audio quality would not be so good due to the noise picked up by the signal from the PC digital circuits.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a networked raid drive. Thecus 2100. Its running linux, and includes samba sharing. On that I have a folder shared. I can connect to and read and write from nautilus. No problems. However, I can't use other apps through that method. Its not really "mounting" that drive in the sense you'd normally think of (afaik).
If I try to mount the folder, no matter how I have tried so far (-t cifs, smbmount, etc), I can navigate the folders, but if I try to read any file I get a permission error. Looking at the permissions with 'ls -l', everything looks OK. The weird thing is, I can write a file, then read that file back as long as its the same session.
Just now I tried 'smbclient' with no special arguments. Just the server and path url. It asked for my password. Once I was in, I had no trouble getting files. I had a thread about this a while back and there were several links and all sorts of command line options to try, which I did, with no different outcome. I think its got to be something much simpler and more obvious. smbclient and nautilus seem to have no trouble. Anybody know what they're doing differently?

I want to convert some wav files to wma files. I have the wav files currently in a folder called Test to make it easy. So I have entered the following command line:
ajpearson@ajpearson-laptop:~/Desktop/pacpl-4.0.5$ pacpl --to wma home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test and the error message I get is:
error: the following is not a file or directory: home/ajpearson/Desktop/Test
It does not matter what directory I use I get the same error. I am sure the answer is obvious - but not t me.

I have made a report using libre office. Now I wish to continue editing the document using lyx (latex front end). So the ODT file needs to be saved as some .tex file.
I don't see an option to do this in File menu (export/save as). So is there any other plugin to do this?

I have a program that reads in data files. These are named datafile01_R, datafile01_G, datafile01_B, they then increment, so datafile02_R etc i have about 600 of these. the program reads in 3 data sets at a time from each run, so files_01 r, g, and b.
The program then does its magic, and outputs about 40 different files, depending on the file, they gone to folders named R, G, B, psa, or tracking.
The program itself has configuration files to say where the files should gone when analyzed, there is also the config files that reads in the data sets.
At the moment i have to run one set of data, then go in and manually change the input file location, and run again. But, doing this, even though a different data set, the new set overwrites the old set in one of the output folders. So i need a way to increment the output filenames after they are written and before the program is run again with the new data set.

However, audacity won't open it up. There is an error that says that FFmpeg should import it but it didn't understand the format. I need to edit some of these audio files for use. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a collection of *.mkv files which are 720 HD resolution (1920x720). I'd like to watch them on my netbook, but it can't handle HD content. The videos play fine on any decently-powerful desktop, under either Windows XP/7 or Ubuntu, but they are simply too much for the Atom CPU of the netbook. Is there a way to downconvert the .mkv files to something the netbook can handle? It doesn't have any problem with standard DVD content, which is of course lower resolution. Cutting HD content down to the netbook's native resolution(1024x600) would probably be sufficient.
A free software package available in the repositories would be great, but I have no problem manually installing something if necessary. I have not done any work with converting videos to different formats, so I don't know what's out there for Ubuntu.
