View 8 RepliesI've got a Creative Zen media player that I still need to use Windows to sync my music to, because no linux software that I know of supports the transfer of album artwork to my device. Is this going to be fixed in the near future? Has it already? Or am I always going to have to stick to Windows Media Player for this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been searching all over google for a way to extract album artwork embedded in id3 tags.
In an ideal world I could do this recursively in my music folder and have it save the artwork as say "cover.jpg" within the album's folder.
Anyone know of a script or program that can do this in either Linux or OSX?
i use sony's nwz video walkman, earlier when i used windows xp it was very easy to change album art. When windows media player is playing certain music file i used to drag and drop some jpg file as album art and then transfer the file into my walkman; but now in rhythmbox if i drag and drop it changes the album art momentarily but when i transfer the music into walkman it doesn't show that album art.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have project released under GPL. I have found an icon (.png) I want to use in it that also has a GPL license. What do I have to do, if anything, to use it legally? It's "just an icon", and while it represents a significant amount of work on someone's part, it doesn't come with any source code or embedded licenses that I can just copy and include with my project files. I'm sure I can use it because it's GPL and my project is GPL.
That's what GPL was designed for, but I don't want anyone to think I'm claiming I designed it or that I took it without giving proper credit. I just reread the GPL, and it looks like I can do anything I want with it as long as I don't restrict anyone else from doing the same and if I were to modify it, I'd have to put a notice "somewhere" (but where would that be for an icon?) acknowledging that modification. I don't see anything that would make me actually mention it at all in my documentation, etc. as long as I pass it along unmodified.
I've started using Banshee to sync my ipod lately. There are a few issues with it that I can bear - having to killall natutilus every time I reconnect my ipod being one. But I'm getting a bit peeved with Banshee being apparently incapable of syncing my album artwork correctly. It downloads the correct artwork perfectly within banshee, but at the minute about half the albums on my ipod have REM Monster cover art beside them. Is there any way I can force Banshee to reset the artwork?

View 2 Replies View Relatedusually when i get songs i like to add art to them on the ipod
on itunes i would just select the song --> get info (or properties for this) and add it to the song
i cant find anything in rhythmbox for this, although it does display the artwork thats already on there
i know about gtxpod but i hate the interface and it's given me tons of problems already
banshee for some reason reads my music as video and my video as music
took me like an hour to put my street fighter music on a friggin ipod before i just gave up on trying to attach the cover art
I would like Rhythmbox to fetch the album art. I checked the 'cover art' option in the plugin section but it doesn't seem to work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use EasyTAG to edit the tags of my music. I believed I could also use EasyTAG to remove embedded album art, but this is not entirely the case.EasyTAG appears able to remove references to an embedded image so that the image will not appear in audio players and tag editors. However, the image must still exist within the audio file because the file size remains exactly the same. Contrast this with Mp3tag where removing album art also decreases the audio file's size.My question: is this a bug on EasyTAG's part? If so, what Linux program could I use instead?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use my ubuntu machine as a media player, and I'm using Rhythmbox for music. I still rip my cd's in Windows so when I get them to Linux I delete the cover art in the CD's map since I don't really care about the "coolness" factor .
Anyway, on some of the cd's there is still an album cover,(most of them downloaded from Jamendo) but searching ".jpg" in the music folder doesn't show the cover art. Is there any place where Rhythmbox stores the Album art so I can delete it? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.
I just installed Kubuntu today to try KDE. I am really enjoying it but I got 1 problem. Amarok doesn't seem to find any album covers. Even though I ticked the box "automatically retrieve cover art" he still refuses. Another strange thing: the "cover manager" is completely empty. I got a screen for u.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to reorganize my files and organize my music on Rhythmbox, but I've run into a really annoying problem. The cover art for one song on a particular album isn't right. All the other songs in the album are displaying properly.
I have the album cover in the same folder that the music is in with the name "Cover.jpg".
I've tried about everything I can think of. I've tried renaming the image file, tried dragging it to the album art area in the player, and I've tried moving it to the Rhythmbox folder under the name "~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/covers/Artist Name - Album Name.jpg" (Of course inserting the correct album name and artist name exactly the way it is shown in Rhythmbox). It will change if I drag and drop it, but once I go back and play the song again, it will revert to the wrong cover art.
I was glad to see another release of exaile. I'm always happy to see improving mainstream desktop apps, especially when they start being much superior to their commercial counterparts in both, quality and quantity, of features. But as if developers are ignoring the simple usability problems - again - exaile like all other gnome music players (apart from amarok, but that's kde!) can't browse your library by album artist!
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've tried for some time now to get my Zen 16GB working properly with Ubuntu 10.04. I've tried Rhythmbox and this works for mp3s but album art is not transferring. I have latest 0.13 Rhythmbox and now at leat the mp3's go in directories under Music, but the .alb file is put a root and not ar is displayed.
I have tried gnomad2 and the latest (2.9.4?) crashes with 10.04 when reading the Zen. I can't drag and drop in nautilus and the it is connected as gphoto and the tags are not copied over. So, for all you Zen users.. how are you trandfering mp3's (with album art!) over to your Zen's?
I have been using OpenSuse KDE for about a year now and my default music player is Amarok. I think it is a good music player, but I have just one complaint about Amarok 2.3.0 that comes bundled with 11.3 --- it simply does not display the embedded album art in mp3 files.I don't know if Amarok users have faced this issue previously, but its quite surprising when VLC displays the embedded album cover but Amarok doesn't. Please have a look at the screen print below which shows VLC and Amarok playing the same song but Amarok does not show the album art...
I embed album art for my mp3's using a free software called Mp3tag through Windows. My mp3's tagged and embedded through this software display their album cover not just in Windows and VLC on Linux but also on my mobile phone.Surely something is not right with Amarok when it comes to displaying embedded album art.
I just migrated to Ubuntu 10.04 from windows and I could not be more satisfied, except for one minor, nitpicky detail. In iTunes I was able to sort my music by "album by year". That is, my music was sorted primarily by artist, then by album year. So each artist had their albums listed in chronological order. My library is meticulously tagged, so every track on every album is tagged with the same YEAR value. Is this possible in Rhythmbox? Is there a plugin or will i have to edit a .conf file (or similar) somewhere? I'm new to Ubuntu, but not afraid of getting my hands a bit dirty, so to speak.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently deleted my .kde4 folder and lost all the album art and lyrics I had saved in Amarok. I have a back up but openSUSE doesn't recognized the file type and won't copy the files to the new albumcovers folder in .amarok. The file name is a mixture of numbers and letters with no file extension.
I downloaded a few album covers in Amarok and openSUSE recognizes these as jpeg files, even though there's no jpg file extension in the file name. If I right click on of the files from my backup and choose to open it with Amarok, then the album art appears, and it's also added to the albumcovers folder in .amarok, and recognized as a jpeg file!
Anyone know why openSUSE doesn't recognize the files from my backup? Or how I can import all of the album art and lyrics from my back up all at the same time?
Is it possible to have an album like application in my desktop/conky? (If you don't understand what i mean, its basically the one as in vista)
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe latest version of banshee 2.0.0 which was updated today on my computer has a bug where if you double click on song in your library it will show the wrong album art and the wrong wikipedia article. If you double click a second time it retrieves the correct album art and the correct wikipedia article. If this is the new banshee for Ubuntu 11.04 it's not going to make many people happy.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have all my music stored as digital files on my hard drive, in a tree of folders. The smallest branches of the tree represent individual albums, each holding a dozen or so individual song files. I have Amarok 2.0.2 installed on Kubuntu 9.04. The program opens as expected, and using the "Files" tab in the left pane I can navigate to any sub-directory I want. I can see the listings of songs within each album's sub-directory.
But I cannot figure out how to make Amarok play those songs. Drag and drop from the left pane into either the center pane or right pane does nothing. Right-click and "Append to Playlist" does not appear to do anything -- the "Playlist" tab in the left pane remains empty, and the center and right panes remain empty. I've tried to find the answer in the on-line Amarok manual, but the documentation only seems to take me to the point of finding the songs in the left pane, but not how to make Amarok play them.
Man VLC is a bit of a mess in CentOS.I can't get it to show album tracks when playing music CDs.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI knew it is easy to change / add , album art in any mp3 songs by dragging appropriate image file on rythmbox, it is working fine with Rythmbox but when I am playing the same song from another application like VLC,totem the album art is not showing. If I quit rythmbox ,and the song is open again in rythmbox, it sosometime showing the album art but sometime not.It is also not showing in my mobile phone.
After a little bit searching about this I came to know that EasyTag can do this,I have installed EasyTag from software centre but it remains dim with the mp3 files. how to change the album art permanently,so that the album art can see from any software and device like mobile , ipod etc.
Let me begin by saying that I'm a "casual user" of my computer (I'm a retiree who uses her 'machine' for email, looking up mostly useless info, & pretending to be a writer). However, migraines from beating my head on the keyboard in frustration over Windows eccentricities led me straight to Linux. Linux blows windows out of the water, IMO.
Except for Media Players. I have tried every one in Ubuntu's software catalog. Rhythmbox is the only one that works, & it doesn't work correctly. I use my computer as my primary music source, & have saved nearly 200 albums/CDs to it. I transferred my collection to a memory stick, then tried to transfer it to Ubuntu. Rhythmbox 'accepted' most but not all albums, but none of the downloaded music, & lists the songs in each album backwards. When I open an album, sometimes Rhythmbox plays them backwards, sometimes (rarely) 'frontwards', but usually, jumps around, plays a few of the numbers, then stops. Occasionally, it goes through the collection, playing one song from each collection.
I was able to transfer the entire collection to 'Listen' media player, but it doesn't actually play anything, & I never even got that far with any other player. I have a two year-old HP Compaq Presario desktop w/ 500GB, (300 to Ubuntu & the rest to The Dreaded Windows for some stuff I can't run on Linux). I began with running Ubuntu 10.04 on 'wubi', then installed it from a CD I burned from the Ubuntu site. Someone suggested I had screwed something up during downloading, so I got 10.04 on a CD (w/ "Ubuntu for Non-Geeks"), but had the same media player problems. Last month I upgraded to 10.10, but still have the same problems.
I have got a Cowon iAudio 9 music player and want to display the album art images of the albums on it. The player does support this feature but only when there is a *.jpg file inside of the album folder or the image is embedded into the music file itself (did not tried that).
At the moment I'm using banshee as music management software and I like it. The album art is downloaded automatically for each album and when the player is connected it is beeing recognized and I can drag & drop albums or single songs.
The only problem is that the album art is not transfered along with the albums. The player does support MTP and MSC usb connections and is mounted as removeable usb drive to the system (Ubuntu 10.10). I would be glad if there's a solution to do that with banshee but other software solutions are welcome too.
