Somebody, without saying anything to us, has deleted (not moved) a lot of wiki pages for laptop testing and setup guide. A lot of people were working hardly to document as best as possible each laptop computer to configure Ubuntu GNU/Linux.

I have changed to ubuntu a few months ago from windows, where I used to have a mediawiki set up on a local server. This wiki was used for notes, archiving, document management, file storage, calendaring, almost everything that most people do with a normal directory tree on their drives.
Unfortunately, I have not yet managed to install a local media wiki on my ubuntu 10.04 LTS system so far. I have tried it once and messed up the php-stuff so badly that I had to reinstall the entire system in order for it to work in a acceptable speed.
how to set up a current version mediawiki (or an older version, if that's the only chance) as a local wiki in 10.04 LTS? There is no network access to the wiki, just local access using a firefox browser on the machine where it is installed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using rsync to backup one drive to another. However, it is not currently set up to delete files if they are deleted from the source directory. I'm looking for a way to tell it to delete a file if it was deleted form the source directory X number of days ago.
Anyway I can do this with rsync or a combo with another backup program?

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe solution given there -to edit settings via gconf-editor - worked fine.In Ubuntu.Now I wanna do the same thing in Lubuntu - the Ubuntu remix that uses LXDE instead of Gnome.I tried running gconf-editor but (duh) it's not installed because Lubuntu doesn;t use Gnome. How do I tell LXDE to quit asking for confirmation? I'd also like to have the option to just delete stuff right away, rather than it going into the trash file first.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was fiddling with my Kubuntu installation's desktop panel and deleted my last panel on the desktop. This caused the Plasma desktop to crash, which caused me to reboot. After rebooting, I got to the login screen (which was normal and un-changed) and logged in. When I logged in, I was greeted with a black screen with two white dots in the upper right hand corner and no GUI.
Please note, I'm on a laptop and cannot connect to a wireless network from my console but I do have console access from the login screen where I can login to the Terminal.
I ve read this page and tried some methodes such as opening nautilus with"gksudo nautilus" and then checking (the now root?) trash bin.Ive got a ext4 formated truecrypt container which has a size of 400GB. After I have deleted all the files in it nautilus tells me that I now have only about 100gb free space but I cant see any files in the container anymore.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI use Ubuntu 8.04 and I deleted a few JPGs from the recycle bin. I googled looking for some methods of recovery, and discovered that the only ways to do so is through using the command line. I am a complete computer novice, and I know nothing about the command line, or how to use it. I was able to install Foremost. However, with this done, I couldn't manage to use it to recover anything from that point, partially because I only have 1 GB left on my computer space, and I can't delete anything or else it could overwrite the photos I want to recover.
This all boils down to two questions:
What needs to be done to complete and utilize foremost?
And lastly, and the more preferable option, can this be accomplished without the command line?
I was trying to install virtualbox-ose using the wiki page on debian.org and following the installation instructions for squeeze! But in the installation process, I saw this error: No suitable module for running kernel found . And when I try to run virtualbox nothing happens! I'm using this kernel: 2.6.32-5-686. I tried re-installing use the deb package from the virtualbox website but I had the same error. Does anyone had this before? any ideas on how to correctly configure it ?

wget -O wikihtml.html [URL]
The first attempt at getting wiki code was to pretend to edit, and run:
wget -O wikiedit.html [URL]
but of course that grabs GUI HTML. I thought perhaps the text inside the text box would be in tact, but HTML is througout. How to get just the raw wiki code?
I was looking at the MythTV wiki to look at possible developments related to some troublesome hardware of mine, and I noticed that all the tuner card pages are being removed...
The message reads "clearing out local tuner pages" ...
There are significant pieces of information that are being removed... Some of which are not present on the wikis for related projects (like IVTV).

I've been having some problems with Lucid; all my applications seem to be hogging memory like no tomorrow. Within about 15 minutes from booting the system, processes like Google Chrome, Nautilus, Python, Pidgin all start to take seemingly too large amounts of memory.
Chrome is the worst one, easily shooting over 200-300MB of my 2GB's of RAM. I would have reported this as a bug in Chrome itself, but my other applications seem to share the problem to some extent. Also: My colleague has identical hardware and identical versions of Ubuntu / Chrome, while he has no memory problems whatsoever.Currently I am running Chrome, Geany, Pidgin, Thunderbird and FileZilla. For this and itself, Ubuntu now consumes 1.8GB of RAM (that's including 500MB cached).
I need some piece of software that follows the requirements below. So here's the scenario:
1. I need some piece of software that will allow me to edit related articles in a wiki-like fashion. I will be the only one editing this "wiki" though.
2. I need to be able to do searches/queries on the wiki content in a very flexible but also very concise way:
- The usual search for an expression in all articles or only some category(ies) but also:
- Wiki links to other wiki pages based on configurable criteria, e.g. articles belonging to some category(ies): I mean something like right-clicking would open a sort of database form to perform a query that would use the said link as expression but would only be run after you'd chosen your other criteria.
- If anyway possible, do the above for any selected text on the page you were watching...
3. Ideally this would be one single application of course. But I'm perfectly alright with coupling two or even more together as long as they do integrate with each other flawlessly.
I am looking for an easy to setup/maintain wiki that will be hosted on a Linux box. Just a simple wiki should do. I would prefer perl/cgi based wiki.

I converted a DJVU file by printing it to a PS file from the Document Viewer. Then I printed again the PS to file into a PDF from that same application. The second phase took more than 24 hours and resulted in a scanned PDF of less than 500 pages with a size of 315 MB! I have many books of more pages which come down to 1 MB only. What happened in the process to make it so damn slow and so inefficient? Is there a good alternative (not ps2pdf because it provides the same result)?

How do I configure or set up mouse action such that an option to delete or move to trash is also included when hitting the right mouse button? As shown below, the "standard menu" does not include this action:

I generate more than 50GB of cache files on my RHEL server (and typical file size is 200kb so no of files is huge). When I try to delete these files it takes 8-10 hours. However, the bigger issue is that the system load goes to critical for these 8-10 hours. Is there anyway where I can keep the system load under control during the deletion.I tried using
nice -n19 rm -rf *
but that doesn't help in system load.
I create the file mytest.txt. Since this process is using this file. if I run this code in background and simply run "rm -rf mytest.txt" than file gets delete. Here is my code
