When streaming audio, firefox stores files in the cache folder(home/.mozilla/firefox/xxx .default/OfflineCache.However, one the file has finished downloading, it disappears from this folder. Does anyone know where it goes?

running ubuntu 8.04 dual boot with windows- need windows for avery label program, ibm via voice and access data base .chose 8.04 because of long term support. firefox is now unstable and does not do streaming video ' audio.[ustream in particular and others] usually i get the video but not the audio. sometimes the fox just closes and i can open it on the second try- sometimes not. skype does work. there may be a fix for the audio using libflash support program. where to get this& what to do with it is a problem.
perhaps it would be prudent to upgrade to 10.04 but this seems to be a work in progress and might lead me into further problems. on the other hand i could work up to ubuntu 9.10 if it would be more likely to work better the get to 10.04 when it is further along. i am pretty useless with the command line.on the whole ubuntu has worked well until this problem came up.
i want to know the location of firefox cache folder..when we watch any video on ..... or any sites firefox buffers the whole video in its cache memory..so i want to copy that whole video from that cache folder directly so that we dont need any third party add-ons to download videos..for that i want to know the exact location of that cache memory folder of firefox browser in linux
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've got a small problem with Banshee that I need some help with, if possible. I'm currently using the latest version of Ubuntu 11.04 and it's up to date. The problem i'm having is with Banshee playing music files over my DAAP share. My DAAP server is running Firefly (mt-daapd), and Banshee can see the server and shares just fine. It loads the song list from the server, but when I select a song to play it just sits there. Rhythmbox works just fine, sees the share and plays the songs ok (which is what i've fallen back to for the moment), so I know it's not a hardware or software problem from the sound "system".
Other features of Banshee play just fine, including internet radio stations, internet archives, and importing songs from the server (which makes the song local instead of networked from a single source). Ok, so streaming from the DAAP share isn't working; here's the output from the terninal I started Banshee from:

I was laughing about klackenfus's post with the ancient RH install, and then work has me dig up an old server that has been out of use for some time. It has some proprietary binaries installed that intentionally tries to hide files to prevent copying (and we are no longer paying for support or have install binaries), so a clean install is not preferable.
Basically it has been out of commission for so long, that the apt-get upgrade DL is larger than the /var partition (apt caches to /var/cache/apt/archives).
I can upgrade the bigger packages manually until I get under the threshold, but then I learn nothing new. So I'm curious if I can redirect the cache of apt to a specified folder either on the command line or via a config setting?
I'm using Opensuse11.4 and have kmail and Firefox. When I click a url: link in kmail it opens a new tab in Firefox. The problem is that the url is linked to my temp cache files as this file:///var/tmp/kdecache-terry/krun/1589.0.ctt
The tab this opens has most of the link icons stripped out and the links to other parts of the website don't work and I get a "file not found" error and the link is to a file which doesn't exist file:///contribute.php3
This is only a minor annoyance as I can right click > copy the url and paste it to the address bar in Firefox then it works ok. I don't think it anything in either programme that's broken because this happened after an update to Opensuse 11.4 on my previous laptop and has happened again on my new laptop with a fresh install.
I wanted to queue up all audio files in particular folder which also has .txt files.I tried$find /data/songs -iname '[^txt]' -exec totem --enqueue '{}' ';'Thinking that this will exclude txt like expression in 'grep'.It did not work

Rather than use a heck of a lot of wire, I can sit my Ubuntu 9.10 netbook on top of the stereo and stream the audio across WiFi.
So, ideally what I am after is something to capture the outgoing audio on the Windows computer, stream it across the wifi to the Ubuntu netbook and finally play it through the speakers.
upon browsing the home folder in my ubuntu system, i came across a hidden cache folder..
it occupied around 700 mb of space..and im falling short of space..
can i delete the contents in the folder? are they safe to delete?

View 9 Replies View Relatedi have opensuse 11.3 (64-bit) installed. kde version. my sound card is a creative labs sound blaster x-fi xtreme audio, pcie interface. i am able to listen to cd music without any problems but i am unable to get streaming audio when i visit any internet radio site, videos, yahoo!tv, etc. etc. for instance, when i visit videos, the video part is ok but i cannot hear anything through the speakers. something similar happens when for instance i go to [url] and select any of the music channels. a new window pops up but the music never even starts to stream.
i know for a fact that both sound card and speakers work fine because i've tested them with windows xp. so there must be some setting in opensuse that i've missed. the weird part is that i can listen to music cds without any problems...
I installed squid cache on my ubuntu server 10.10 and it is work fine but i want to know how to make it cache all files like .exe .mp3 .avi ....etc. and the other thing i want to know is how to make my client take the files from the cache in the full speed. since am using mikrotik system to use pppoe for clients and i match it with my ubuntu squid

I got the "missing plugins" banner, but when I clicked on install I was told nothing suitable was available.I was able to play the files, by downloading with Download Helper and playing in Rhythmbox, but surely there should be some plugin?

Totem, Rhythmbox etc all work correctly but I fail to get any streaming audio from any of the Second Life clients I've tried. In some cases I can copy the media url into rhythmbox and run the sound from there but in most cases the url is "hidden".

Currently using VLC on boot with the commands: -loop -http-reconnect
VLC works fine for the first little while, but after a day or two, it doesn't try to reconnect enough to meet my needs.
i'm getting no audio from online streaming like radio stations etc. videos such as videos and the like seem to be fine though. i presume i'm missing some package which is in synaptic.

Rythmbox is good too but seams to drop the streams a little more that Totem. The main problem with Totem is that I find the play list kind of clunky to use.
Q1: Are there better players for streaming audio?
A lot of radio stations now open in there own "players". I don't like all of the advertisements and other bandwidth eating crap in these "players".
Q2: Is there a way to get the URL of the stream from one of these "players" and play it on Totem or Rythmbox?

I guess it's having a problem with "resume" function or buffering.Any thoughts on this? I'm not having that problem with VLC in XP on the same connection.
