The screen at 1920x1080 with tiny gnome icon. Almost unreadable, can the icons be bigger? KDE has excellent icons but for some mystery the system cannot run KDE. All gnome, not just ubuntu, have 10.4 now runs excellent need to keep it.
New hp system, 1 terabite ram, nvidia graphics system 2 gig.
Soon to switch to larger monitor, but those icons...Tried cairo icons, no use, trouble.
For some reason my desktop icons have decided to be very small and can't be changed (systemsettings/appearances/icons/advanced) It happened after I enabled and downloaded the files need for compiz. I have disabled compiz and now have no 3D desktop effects, but still cannot alter the desktop icon size. What have I done?
View 2 Replies View Relatedinstall of Win7 Pro x64 and I have VirtualBox installed with Ubuntu 10.04 running as a guest OS. I want to get access to the tty1 so I press CTRL + ALT + F1. The screen resizes to a smaller size, turns black, then the gnome desktop reappears but only the top left corner.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've made some of my own icons in Gimp and saved them as .pngs. The problem is, when I use them they always appear smaller than the system default icons. Is there no way to make them as the same size as the system icons? I read somewhere that GNOME (which is what I use) uses .png .svg and .xpm. I am only able to save as .png with GIMP, is there a way to get .svg and .xpm extension capabilities with GIMP?

1. HJ-Split Folder
2. Blood Frontier Folder
Is there maybe a specific way to make folder icons that I am not following? Using Ubuntu 9.10, Desktop edition.

I have to scroll over to the left half, and then I can work like normal. If I wanted to have a black screen, I can drag the courser over to the far right and have my screen be entirely black. I cannot open anything in the black part of the screen.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to do thunderbird (I think is a gtk app) look bigger (from the windows bar, the menu's font size and so on). I am connecting through svn and I got only an xterm. From the xterm I can launch the thunderbird which looks too small.
If I can somehow alter the settings so to appear a bit more visible. For that I would to ask you what I can do. I recall that in kde control center that there was an option for gtk apps. How can I launch kde's control center from xterm (I have kde 4.6)

I wan't to have windos-FS to use my work and on my freinds computers.Do you think I could format to NTFS or keep the FAT32? I don't have any big files.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm helping a colleague with his laptop, he finds the fonts within programs too small and they hurt his eyes. We have tried changed the fonts using System>Appearances>Fonts. Changed the dpi resolution in the "Details" section, and tried changing the screen resolution, but this doesn't work or make it better.
I have attached a screen shot to show the problem. As I hope you can see, the font size on the desktop and top tool bar is much larger than within the programs.
Can anyone help, we have looked through all of the menus we can think of, but nothing makes the font bigger.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI don't know why but every icon you put to be appearing in tray for the gnome-ppp status (/usr/share/gnome-ppp/*.png) are not transparent when displayed in tray (even if they're .png w/ transparent background).

When I boot and just before I enter my password If I select "Gnome" in bottom task bar, when my desktop boots there are no short cut icon on the desktop. If I select "Failsafe Gnome" when the desktop boots all is fine.Why is this Happening. I have searched the file system and found a folder called "default.kde4" in /usr/share/icons. I assume this is where KDE applications pull their icons from. Firstly, this folder is a linked folder. How do i find out where the original folder that it is linked to is? Secondly, i am assuming, that the KDE icons won't be a name for name match for the icons i am using in Gnome (Faenza just in case anyone is curious). What is the easiest way to get the KDE icons changed for the one's i am using in Gnome?

I want to know how the size of the gnome icons in toolbars (see pic) is specified. Those icons for 'new', 'open', 'save', ... that are used in Nautilus or Gedit.
I just played around with the gtkrc of my theme, but I couldn't find any option there. Aren't the icons scaleable? Are there smaller icon sets available?
Basically I decided to install KDE, then after disliking it I uninstalled it, however I am left with icons for all the old KDE apps in my applications bar, is there any way I can get them removed.

After a new installation of Ubuntu 10.10 (regular or alternative) I get to the login screen as usual. However, after logging in I get no panels or icons. In fact, I only get the Ubuntu background and a working mouse cursor. The same happens when I try Ubuntu from the live CD (with a black background). The installation itself was performed in a high resolution with no problems at all! I got a panel there (for sound, wireless, etc.).
After installation I can also Ctrl-Alt-F1 to login textually to see my processes. When I restart GDM I will get back to the login screen, but I after visually logging in I again see no panels or icons! Where should I start with a working visual installation and login screen, but a blank desktop environment after login?
Reinstalling or creating another user will not work.

I tried installing it in gnome classic hoping that it carries over to gnome 3 but cant find the theme manager panel anymore.
