I've accidentally removed the taskbar from my KDE desktop. Minimized programs are only accessible through a widget called Window List. I would like to have my KDE desktop back to its default view.

View 3 Replies View RelatedStarting up xubuntu 9.10 on my dual booted inspiron 1501 (vista) and the desktop pops up, but there's no taskbar or anything just the desktop. All this after fixing my grub [URL]. I popped up a terminal and installed tree to show me the filesystem. All my files are still there I then ran synaptic and tried to see if any packages were missing but I don't know much so now I'm stuck with another problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI upgrade my Kubuntu to 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) and I lost taskbar. Besides, I can't right-click on desktop. In fact I can, but nothing happens. Is that some Plasma problem? I red that Kicker is replaced by some Plasma feature. Could it be because of Conky (some desktop layouts)? I tried to prevent it, but I can't. I killed all Conky instances, and removed it from .kde/Autostart, but it still runs on every start-up.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 on my compaq laptop, My Issue is this, the upgrade went well for being over the internet, rebooted, got to the kewl new desktop environment, then tried to enable compiz fusion desktop cube, and darn it if I didnt lose the desktop environment. The pic I installed as desktop background is still there, and the desktop icons are as well, but no sidebar or taskbar/menubar at the top,I dont know if this is a resolution issue, or if unity is the desktop environment then it maybe' isn't enabled?,...
while trying to fix this issue(in recovery mode) I got an error message saying that my hardware doesn't support unity, I do not know if that is the problem or not, everything worked fine until I tried to run compiz fusion, now all I have is a desktop background and icons?? View 9 Replies View RelatedSo this morning I just upgraded my laptop from OpenSuSE 11.2 to 11.4. I am using the Gnome Desktop (2.6.37.6-0.5-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2011-04-25 21:48:33 +0200 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux).
As of right now the "Taskbar" at the bottom of the desktop, does NOT stretch all the way across the bottom (meaning it would start on bottom-left edge and go to the bottom-right edge) of the screen. Right now it is sort of centered at the bottom, and its size changes depending on how many windows are open.
So is there any way to set it to a fixed width (by that I mean I want it to take up the entire bottom of the screen x-amount of pixels high, etc..
Have accidently removed a desktop background image (lotus/pond) and would very much like to have it back. Would someone please tell me how to do this? I've read in Help that this image is not removed from my computer but don't know how to proceed.

I have the following settings at Application Launcher-> TaskBar;
-unchecked: Show windows from all Desktop
-checked: Sort windows by desktop
Are there any other changes that I need to make.
I install suse 11.4 (KDE) in my lap top. The problem is that the taskbar shows all the application from all 4 desktop. I want to restrict to taskbar to show the application of its own desktop only, not that of other desktops.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThe first issue is adding launch icons to the task bar. I can add launchers, but cannot figure out how to link them to applications. It is only half a problem, because putting links on the desktop is easy, but I prefer having launchers on the task bar so the desktop is not cluttered.The big problem is placement of desktop icons. I like to put icons on the right side of the screen, and more importantly, I like to group related icons. For example, if I had a folder or document for Linux and another for Debian, I want them grouped together. I also like arranging by category: folders in one column, documents and images in another and launchers (if any) in a third. However, if there is way to enable desktop icons to be moved, I cannot figure it out. Icons are fixed on the left side of the screen with folders first in alphabetical order, then documents/images in alphabetical or numerical order, and launch icons last.My guess is icons can be moved, but I am not computer literate enough to figure it out. It does not make sense that the task bar can be placed on the top, bottom, left or right, but desktop icons cannot be moved. I have tried every preference setting, but there are no relevant options.Am I over-looking something that is not obvious or is it a strange deficiency with LXDE?

It's maddening to click thinking you'll pull up the terminal that's hiding beneath the browser and be whisked away to a different desktop.I'm running KDE 4.4.3 and FC13. I know there's got to be a simple option to have the taskbar only show what's there...I've changed it before in other distros and just can't seem to find a clear, obvious option for that this time around.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have corrupted my /usr/ partition. I thought I recovered my server thingies okay. The problem is with gnome desktop. It won't show the login screen and furthermore there's a lot of error in ldconfig messages -- because of the corrupted /usr/ partition.I started picking out these erring files -- using aptitude purge and the rm command if it cannot be purged...That's how I tried to clean my /usr/ corrupted partition.How do I know I managed to cleanly removed all traces of the desktop gnome? -- also how could I install the desktop again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAm trying to run Ubuntu from the CD on a Dell Latitude D800 laptop that a friend gave me. A Suse Linux installation is currently on the laptop and appears to run OK and its desktop looks normal with normal buttons and icons.
The Ubuntu boot from the CD appears to run normally but all the icons and buttons on the desktop and the taskbar appear fuzzy/fragmented (that's the best way I can describe it). The menu texts appear normally. Otherwise the system seems to work normally. I can select menu items and they do what they should do, etc. I've tried fiddling with the screen resolution but that doesn't improve anything. I've tried the installation with 10.1 and 10.04LTE but the result is the same: fuzzy icons and buttons.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI removed pulseaudio save for the libs, and now I can't lock down my desktop with ctrl+alt+l anymore. I can still lock the system with the menu (System > Lock Screen), but it's kind of annoying. Removing pulseaudio has cleared up all of my mplayer stutter issues, but I would like to be able to use the keyboard shortcut keys. Here's the command I used to strip out pulseaudio:

Yesterday upgraded firefox and upgraded Java 6 from update 20 to update 24 so that I could use the Zotero bibiliographic program in FF. After the upgrade and restart, the windows title bar that includes minimize, maximize and close buttons has disappeared from all windows that I open except google chrome. If I open and app, or FF, or the dvd player, title bar is gone. I have noticed that Java updates have caused similar problems before but none of the prescribed steps seems to have changed my system
View 9 Replies View Related1-When entering a music CD, video or files, any programs or music or video players and desktop are closed are removed all the icons and I can not open any program only on firefox, I can not see the files or anything . (NOTE CD-rom is in mint condition)
2-I graphics effects ruin the entire desktop and when it is in fact no graphic still looks bad everything looks pixelated or striped like when flex is damaged or something is damaged and is in perfect condition.
Now I'm going with the version 10.04 of ubuntu:
1-I have the same problem with the CD I had in 9.10, except that in the 10/04 I can open some programs with the Emphaty and monitor systems.
2-When you close the laptop when I open the screen looks as if the flex embers damaged or broken screen (when it is of course) and I have no other to reset it.
3-When you drive about 30 minutes using computed with any open programs (Firefox, Emphaty, emesene, movie player, Gnome player) to close it or minimize it gets super slow and sometimes if I Friza and then to turn it off and repeat history.
4-When I'm watching a movie or a video with movie player is super slow (just what I'm playing does not the OS) as if Lageado and stuff. But with Gnome looks pretty good player just the video looks very small and I can not put it full screen. Certainly in a Dell Latitude C610 Pentium III-Processor: 1000/700mhz-Memory: 512MB Graphics-Card: 16mb.
I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 11.04 on my server about 2 weeks ago, I setup remote desktop and figured to just leave the password field out as it suppose to be pre-configured to only accept local connections, well, apparently not. I was noticing some strange network activity and checked my router connections and sure enough I see port 5900 to the server, open vino icon and see that there is someone else connected! (IP of unauthorized user: 77.29.51.239 ).. Immediately kick them and set a password. This should really be addressed and/or a password should be defaulted or at the very least the "Your desktop is only reachable over the local network." should be removed.

But, when I use Synaptic Package Manager and select "xubuntu-desktop" a window pops up that says "Mark additional required changes?". One of the required changes it marks is "To be removed" and listed under that is "ubuntu-desktop". I still would like to have Gnome.
