Ubuntu Servers :: Solid-pop3d Gives Permission Denied On Opening Mailbox?
Jan 31, 2010
The user "abimail" has a mailbox specified in /home/abimail/.spop3d which is /var/mail/abimail. The permissions of /var/mail/abimail are:
Code:
rwxrwx--- 1 abimail mailgroup 192113 2010-01-28 20:24 /var/mail/abimail. When logging in to solid-pop3d as user abimail and attempting to fetch mails, the login works but it will pop up the error "can't open mailbox file"; syslog entries:
Code:
Jan 31 17:38:10 h1347290 solid-pop3d[23857]: user abimail authenticated - 87.176.220.50
Jan 31 17:38:10 h1347290 solid-pop3d[23857]: mailbox: can't open mailbox file: /var/mail/abimail
Jan 31 17:38:10 h1347290 solid-pop3d[23857]: mailbox: open: Permission denied
i can't get cyrus mailbox created. what i get is only error:
cm user.test.test createmailbox: Permission denied
if i try user without "lastname":
cm user.test createmailbox: System I/O error
here's maillog message:

Hi I am a complete newbie I have installed ubuntu 10.04 I have sorted problem with Mobile broadband, but having problems opening root folder I get a permission denied not the owner I have admin privalage as far as I am aware I was following something I read using terminal but kept getting a message saying something about the root I opened the file manager found root folder but still denied access. how I get access same is also true for lost&found folder but have to admit i dont know what that folder is.
fresh install of ubuntu karmic server. fresh, vanilla install of openssh-server attempt to connect either via standard ssh, linux client or puTTY win32 client system (both on local LAN)
First connect is great. connection established.
Second connection (via multiple clients) screams that: "WARNING: REMOTE HOST IDENTIFICATION HAS CHANGED!" and since I have strict checking, won't let me continue.
So, i do a little
Code:
To flush it out (i have backups,).
Then i try again:
I get the typical "Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)?" and i say yes. at which point, i offer the password for the username in question and it flat out refuses: "Permission denied, please try again."
Ok, so i have even gone as far as do a complete rip and replace of the ssh server and it's config files, however this continues to loop and repeat.
So, question one: Why does my key change?
Question two: Why am i getting "permission denied" errors on subsequent connect.
I'm currently running Karmic on a old Dell Pentium 4, and I am having trouble copying files to this box from my laptop which is running Linux Mint Helena. I am able to see and connect to the shared directory on the Dell, copy and execute files from there, but cannot write to it. The permissions have been set to 777 on the shared directory and sub directories within that. The older Dell has a PATA hard disk, 300gb, while my newer laptop has a SATA hard disk. I've read that this can be a problem, and permissions may not be recognized? I'm not able to connect to the laptop from the Dell, neither of the administrator logins work, though I maybe need to do this as root?
Here is the smb.conf file I am running on both machines:
I want to be able to write to my server, not just read and execute. I am also not able to write to the server when logged on to a windows machine on the same network.
Just had a new VPS installed running Ubuntu Server 8.04 Getting some errors when I connect to the server and try to use apt.. only trying to install nano and after messing around I've managed to get the error to change.. but still can't get any further.
error
Code:
# sudo apt-get install nano Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done
I want to use SSH to connect to my desktop. I have used Ubuntu 10.10's encryption to encrypt my home folder (thus encrypting my .ssh folder). This means that the OpenSSH doesn't have access to my .ssh folder. When I try to log into SSH before logging in on the local machine I get the following error:
If I log onto the machine, then use SSH it works fine. I want to use key based login, One way to get around this error would be use a different authorized_keys file, but I don't know of a way to do this. This is the contents of my sshd_config file:
Code:
# Package generated configuration file # See the sshd_config(5) manpage for details # What ports, IPs and protocols we listen for
I am using Ubuntu server edition 10.04.1 running in Vmware server 2.02.I am connect via Putty so I can use copy and paste. My first goal is configuring a ftp server using PureFtpd using this guide. In section 10 I need to write this command
I have created a basic ssh server and i haven't done any configuring to it other than to port forward port 22. i am trying to connect to it from a client computer (they are on the same router). i enter the command "SSH <IP of the server>", and it asks me for the password. i have tried "SSH <my user name>@<IP of client>", but it says permission denied.
I wanted to setup a local Apache2 server for some programming and testing. I installed and got Apache2 working with PHP, MySQL and all works fine. Now I wanted to add an additional directory to somewhere in my /home. And that's where things went wrong. I went to edit /etc/apache2/sites-available/default. This is it:
Code: You don't have permission to access /po/ on this server. So I go to the logfile; which says this: Code: [Sat May 08 16:43:51 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] (13)Permission denied: access to /po/ denied
I tried a lot of stuff using chmod and chown, but all to no avail. I tried to change the ownership of the /home/name/web to root, and to www-data, I changed file permissions to allow executing the files.
After upgrading ubuntu server to the latest version (according to apt-get) proftpd stopped working. When I try to execute proftpd I get the following message (when logged in as root or user with root privileges) :
Code:
Line 18 in modules.conf looks like this:
Code:
I've tried removing and re-installing proftpd, but this doesn't help
If I comment line 18 in modules.conf, I just get permission denied on the next LoadModule command...
Can I remove all modules? or is there a way of fixing the permission denied issue?
I am attempting to setup an Ubuntu server as a secondary DNS server. It seems whenever it tries to dump the master file the system log shows Permission denied.let me know if more information is needed.NOTE: where it says example.com I have simply removed my actual Domain name.

I was setting up a Postfix email server, and I was following a basic tutorial here. I successfully installed all the required packaged, and then set up a Virtual user for the mailbox, and Set up a new user with this.
I setup a Samba share and I cannot connect. I can mount in on local host but when I CD to the folder I mounted the share on I get access denied when I run ls.
Running newaliasespostalias: fatal: open database /etc/aliases.db: Permission deniedin my /etc I do not have a aliases.db only an aliases.I cp aliases aliases.db but when I try and install post fix again it gives me the same error and aliases.db goes away.
(We are running CyrusIMAP v2.3.16 on Slackware 13.1)The Problem:A user deleted a HUGE public Folder (>10000 Messages, >250 Subfolders), and now the Folder is in his "Trash" folder.Besides the obvious "Why did he have the access rights to do so in the first place??" question, I am honestly at a loss as to how the user did it:Trying to copy it back using Thunderbird failed utterly, TB crashes, or copies only a part, or nothing at all... (Tried 3.x on Windows and Linux Clients)So now I'm searching for a way to copy the folder back serverside. But web and manpages seem to offer few help:I don't want to move the folder to another partition, nor do I want to reconstruct or restore any corrupted data...All I want is to copy the folder from "user/USERNAME/Trash/HERE" back to "shared/archive/HERE".
I have a Linux server that has local mail service. There are few user accounts on this server. User may send the mail to each other but that only restrict to LAN environment only.
For example, I may
# mail user1
To send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status.
I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.
I've been following this guide: http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/
And done the points up to "Advanced mail server" and are trying to test mailing mail@mydomain.com to mail@mydomain.com (yes, the same inbox) using Thunderbird, through my own DNS, from the server.
But I get the following error: The message can not be sent because the connection to SMTP server mydomain.com timed out.
And when I check /var/spool/mail/virtual where the mailboxes are supposed to be stored there are none.
So I'm wondering how I create a mailbox with postfix.
I can add that I am quite a noob at linux but have to do this in a school project.
I'm using ubuntu server 10.04 32bit with GUI (yes I know, I know)
running squirrelmail, postfix and dovecot, I filter out mails which are spam into a spambox and non-spam into the inbox but by default, the user is not subscribed to the spambox and therefore, the spambox is not visible to the user, how can I make it such that each time a user is created he or she is automatically subscribed to the spambox?
I have made some little mail server (postvix+dovecot+fetchmail) at ubuntu. The mail serve is using system accounts. Now I want to creat Shared mailbox. I have found some information, but I can't understand it correctly. Can U view the below information and correct me.
I have several accounts: Oleg (my account - /home/oleg/Maildir/); pankov (/home/pankov/Maildir); cv ( /home/cv/Maildir/). I want to share the mailbox of CV user: I have add the follwoing information to dovecot.conf:
# You need to create also a private namespace: namespace private { separator = / prefix =
I'm just getting started with postfix for the first time (using courier pop) and everything is working well. However I can't seem to figure out how to only allow some system users to have mailboxes?
For example I have a few accounts which are FTP only accounts but they still have mailboxes under postfix? Is there any way to tell postfix the accounts that I actually want mailboxes for?
Also on a side note, I notice that mail seems to be stored under the user's home directory. I'm scared they may accidentally delete them.
I have just installed 9.10 netbook remix onto my Eeepc 901. I was previously using 9.4 Rather than clicking on shutdown icons, or going through shutdown menus, I added a keyboard shortcut to run a shell script containing the following code:
Code: #!/bin/bash init 0 because init needs to be run as root to have the correct permissions, I set the owner and group to be root , ran chmod 711, then chmod u+s to prevent anyone altering the script, and to allow anyone to execute it with root privelidges Since updateing to 9.10 netbook remix, I have been unable to get this to work. have applied the above changes but get a "/bin/bash: /usr/bin/shutdownscript: permission denied" error when I try to run my shutdown script from the terminal (nothing happens when I press the key combination asigned to the keyboard shortcut). If I run the shutdown script with sudo then it neatly shuts down. ls reveals the following permissions:-rws--s--x 1 root root
So it appears as if SUID and SGID are both set, and the owner/group are correct, and the script works, and yet it doesn't have the permissions to work. I installed 9.4 long ago enough that I can't remember if I had to do anything else to get it working, or has something changed between 9.4 and 9.10?
I tried to execute the following command: $ ./eval_online_wiki.ml -db_user aa -db_pass bb -db_name cc It returned as follows: bash: ./eval_online_wiki.ml: Permission denied What does this mean? How to solve the problem? Actually, I was following a README, and it says "$ ./eval_online_wiki -db_user <username> -db_pass <pwd> -db_name <db_name>"
Forum.Ref:Ubuntu 10.4 Lucid LynxFluxboxOpera 10.61Has anyone a clue how I can solve following (minor but annoying) problem? It takes a relative long time (a few seconds) as normal user before Opera starts in my fluxbox environment. I expected a quicker startup time. Also because when I start opera as root the startup time is shorter.I started opera in a terminal. No messages when started as root with gksudoBut 5 lines of:open: Permission deniedwhen started as normal user. Startup succeeds after these messages. So I figured out that there is some kind of authorisation problem but have no clue how to find out which files opera tries to open and fails and what to do at this point.I searched for similar problems on this forum and also via google but could not find any real answers.
Currently I am having troubles getting my ssh key to work correctly. I have had a desktop crash which has been reformatted to use ubuntu. The key residing in id_rsa.pub has been copied over to the ssh server into the authorized keys of the given user. however When we try to login we get a "permission denied (public key, keyboard-interactive)" error. below is the debug option:
jv@ops-desktop:~/.ssh$ ssh -v jv@x.x.x.x OpenSSH_5.3p1 Debian-3ubuntu4, OpenSSL 0.9.8k 25 Mar 2009 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for *
I have a shared directory on another machine but I can't get it to mount. The permission denied doesn't say where/which permission is denied. Is it on the remote on on the local machine? The remote has sharing enabled for the shareddocs directory and after I have mkdir'ed the local mount point I open it's permissions too.
The verbose response from mount.cfis looks like this:
mount.cifs kernel mount options: unc=//192.168.1.102shareddocs,domain=WORKGROUP,ver=1,rw ,username=clive,,,,,,,,,,,ip=192.168.1.102,pass=** ****** mount error(13): Permission denied Refer to the mount.cifs( manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) The man page does not have a list of error codes.
