Ubuntu Servers :: .htaccess-404 Error Page On Load

I have an existing blog that I migrated to ubuntu server recently. The site was running fine until I transfered it over to ubuntu. I get a 404 error whenever I view pages that is not my index. I believe it has to do with my .htaccess file.
I have enclosed the .htaccess and my default file taken from sites-enabled.

I have found that APACHE or 'httpd' is installed in my machine. But the problem is I can start or stop the httpd but whenever I load the url http://localhost in Mozilla it shows a page load error.I have done this ,
$ /etc/init.d/httpd start then this $ /etc/init.d/httpd graceful
I reinstalled fedora the other day, and it's been working just fine, apart from the internet. It shows that I have a full connection with the wireless network, but it's really difficult to actually load a page. 80% of the time it just fails and shows "Page Load Error". It's really frustrating because it is connected to the internet. In fact, the icon in the address bar even loads from the site I try to access, but websites just will not load.
I've tested my wireless internet with another laptop which is running vista, and it works perfectly on that. Also, I'm running Fedora 10 on an Acer Extensa laptop.
I'm running into a very strange issue that affects all web apps on my server. This happened after a reboot.
Basically, I can fill out a form, submit it, and then the next page will never load, or it will load after several minutes. To reiterate, this affects every web app on this server, and many of my users are noticing it.
I've already tried restarting Apache and doing a repair of MySQL tables
I can provide server details upon request, but it's a basic LAMP stack running Ubuntu 9.x on a Linode.
I just upgraded my server from 9.10 to 10.04. I have ISPconfig installed on it and worked like a charm until the upgrade. Now when I point a browser to my site the page just hangs as if it is trying to load it but I never get an error nor does it load the page. I have tried to restart apache using /etc/init.d/apache2 restart in which I receive an fail error:

After this I still get the same results when trying to load the page in the browser.
I cannot load anything in the www root or virtual host files.
I just downloaded and installed Ubuntu a few days ago (on my Windows Vista Laptop), played around with it, did some trouble shooting (got my wifi card working!)... and am generally enjoying it.However, I am having issues loading my Yahoo Mail. I am using the newest version of Opera (which I also run on windows), but have tried Firefox as well. I am having absolutely no issues with Yahoo mail when I use Windows (in Opera, firefox, chrome, and IE), but can not get it to load at all with Ubuntu. Basically I can get to the Yahoo home page no problem, and can access any of the links etc., except for Mail. When I click it, I just get an error page (as if there was no Internet connection). I have not had problems with any other sites.I'm thinking its some kind of scripting/application conflict, but like I said this whole Linux thing is brand new to me. Have only ever really used Windows in the past.I'm hoping to get these minor issues hashed out, and eventually just drop Windows out of my reality.
I'm trying to make some pages. For this I try to host them locally. However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...
I installed lighttpd to be able to view cgi files that display the status of my UPS. For the most part is has worked w/o incident i.e. until recently when the UPS battery failed on my APC backups xs 1500 lcd. I could not view the multimon.cgi file via the localhost or 127.0.0.1 url e.g.: [URL]... I'd get 404 page not found message. After checking links here and on the web, I tried: [URL]... The page is displayed. From this discovery, I'm not sure that this is a web server configuration or a network host configuration issue or what. I'm running Lucid with all updates, no mods to lighttpd except I added the mod_fastcgi line to the lighttpd.conf file
My webserver accesses a backend mySQL server using CentOS5
The last week, I have been getting a "page Load Error" on my web server whilst others told me they are getting a "broken link" error when they try to access my web site. It has been working fine for the last 12 months until last week.
ADSL, modem and router okay according to service provider (verizon)
I can ping my IP address and my domain name.
# netstat -tap
shows http and https both processes running.
# service httpd restart no issues
I shut down firewall and tried again, but got the same "page load error".
But after it updated and I restarted the service, it's reporting 2.2.0 on any error page. Yet through yum it's reporting 2.2.13-1. Is that normal? I've only ever used 2.2.x, starting with 2.2.6ish.
I have apache httpd server on my Fedora 10I got 2 problems:First : I copied the web page files to its Document Root <var/www/html> & Disabled the default web page. But when I visit http:/localhost ，it shows up the list of files in <var/www/html> as if a ftp server browsed in web page. So how can I set http://localhost load my default web page index.html ?Second :I want to set up a web server on Internet through my router . I applied for DDNS account & input it into router correctly . I set virtual host in server to redirect any access from port 80 to 192.168.1.2:80 in LAN . Just for in case , I also download and running the DDNS software & installed it on PC 192.168.1.2 in LAN . My DDNS provider is oray.cn . It's a Chinese server provider . I don't think there is anything wrong with oray.cn . But if you need its information just visit oray.cn (Google can translate it for you). So I want to know did I miss something to set up a web server in this kind of situation
I am changing domain name for web, web is staying on same IP / ServerI want www.OLD.com to redirect (change address name in browser) to at the moment both point to same IP..am not sure why but this .htaccess is not working.
I'm a newb when it comes to linux operating systems so I'm attempting to get better through experience. I work for a web development company and we use Ubuntu for our operating systems (the programmers at least). Anyways, I'm trying to install LAMP services and get them working. I have all L.A.M.P. services installed... but Apache2 is giving me a problem. I have an .htaccess file installed in a directory under my document root. But Apache2 is not interpreting it. I have AllowOverride All on but I can't figure it out. I did make a bogus .htaccess file attempting to make apache give me a error, nothing.
I installed AWSTATS on my LAMP 10.04 LTS and followed several tutorials URL...) but I can't secure the folder, either by an alias or by .htaccess. I tried both methods manually and by using Webmin.If you go to the URL www.mywebsite/awstats/awstats.pl it shows up, which is good, but this is the default installation site and anyone who knows awstats could possibly see my stats. The conf folder is /etc/awstats/, and I did an alias for that, then .htacess, but neither worked. With the .htaccess, I would get a password promt but the full stats page was visible behind the password promt, and if you clicked "Cancel" about 20 times or so the promt would go away and the full stats page would be visible.
The actual file that powers awstats is in /usr/share/lib/cgi-bin/awstats.pl, and I also tried an Alias and .htaccess seperately and neither worked.I restarted apache2 after each change and I've searched several forums, but I still can't figure this out.
I am running into a very strange problem where my my .htaccess file keep getting deleted.Attempted scenarios ftp upload file.txt rename to .htaccess ftp upload .htaccess ssh - wget url/.htaccess ssh - wget url/htaccess.txt, rename to .htaccess
All has been fine with my emails but today morning when i tried to log on I got an error message "You must be logged in to access this page, go to logon page" I dont understand why even when i supply my correct user name and password.

I have followed the tutorial from this site [URL]. I have changed this file /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and in this file I have changed AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All but still I get: Internal Server Error

I am not sure what happened, but my .htaccess file is no longer working for my 301 redirects. I did have a hard time getting it working a few weeks back (when I first set it up), unfortunately I did not document it well. Main question is for multiple sites getting redirected, do I want the additional sites listed as aliases? My original setup virtual host config listed seven additional hostnames as aliases.
I later had difficulty with google listing these secondary domains within search result and hurting my page rank. So I setup 301 redirects, and from memory, I had to leave the alias names for the .htacces 301 redirect to work. Now it won't work either way. Can anyone tell me if the aliases need to be in place? Do I need to setup individual vhost files and add an .htacces 301 for each? What is the preferred way to do this? I tried reloading apache2 but it did not help.

I'm still not sure after hours of reading the various how-to's, what should the file permissions be for the .htaccess. I have not performed any updates during the period it was working till now.

At work I have 2 PCs on a KVM switch. One windows and a centos 5.3 box. Both are connected to an ADSL service but the windows box is logged into the company VPN most of the time. The centos box comes in useful as I can get to sites the company doesn't like Anyway, today started the same as usual but later I noticed that the centos box was having problems with gmail. I tried to navigate to another site and that is the last internet site I have visited on that box! Whenever I start up firefox I can see "looking up [URL] and then the "address not found"/"page load error" screen.
So a few simple checks - ethernet cable is okay. I have a samba server running on this box so can I access a share from the windows box? Yes. I can ping from windows to linux and linux to windows okay. The only thing I can not do is access the internet which was working this morning. I tried changing the network settings - no proxy, auto detect proxy. There is no proxy server but nothing changed. So, firefox is stuffed. But the network is active.
We are trying to migrate from a centos server to ubuntu server, but we have some problems with an application called Topincs [url].
The installation is quite simple and I did it several time (but with ubuntu it's the first time).
Probably there are some parameters to set that I don't know, but even if the installation works fine and I can see the home page, the application doesn't work because RewriteRules aren't applied.
First I tried to ensure that mod_rewrite works fine and I found a weird situation: rewriterules work if they are in .htaccess but don't work if they are directly in http.conf.
Is anyone here fluent with the usage of the .htaccess file? Is it the way to go to deter search bots or is there a better method? Never mind. I already have a thread about .htaccess here.
After reading this pdf on top 5 things to log for security, ive decided to attempt this for my webserver. how i might setup some logging systems to do these tasks. Basic things i need to be able to do: Record things like password attempts on htaccess files, from what IP address, and how many attempts there were. Any useful links anyone can think of to get me started? Im a student programmer at university so any programming i should be able to cope fine.
I run Debian 5.4 with ISP Manager as CP. I put a .htaccess in the root directory of my wordpress blog. The content of the .htaccess is:

But after I created a static page and change permalinks in wordpress with anything other than standard I get a browser 404 error (not 404 error with template). Location of the blog content that is shown in CP: /var/www/sorin/data/sitename.ro Only the index of the blog is loading. What can I do? I have Debian up-to-date.
i just tried opening facebook in firefox on windows and it works fine. On Firefox in ubuntu on the other hand the connection resets while the page is loading every time. I think my laptop/browser is blocking the connection to facebook but since I'm new to ubuntu i don't really know how to solve this
