View 3 RepliesI'm trying to set up quota limit in samba-3.0.33-3.15.el5_4.1 in CentOS 5.5, by means of the module vfs objects. In the samba howto [1] I found a very brief explanation, but it isn't working for me. The basic idea is to setup a user called 'quota2g' (uid 499) and setup the [homes] share, as it comes by default, to enforce the quota on each user share.quota2g:x:499:499:User quota 2GB:/home/quota2g:/bin/bash
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn our organization there are around 1000+ users are using mails. The mailing system is implemented under RHEL using postfix and dovecot. For user based quotas i have implemented Disk Quota. But the problem when i want to edit quota for multiple users with similar limits i'm doing "edquota user" for every users. It seems very difficult. Now I wanna know:
1. Is there any way to edit quota value for multiple users at a single shot?
2. Also there is any method to send alerts mail to the end users on disk utilization?
Running a server using CentOS 5.5 (yum updated, x86_64), found that when using /usr/sbin/useradd to create system user, the quota for the user will default set to 5M soft and 10M hard (on /var/spool/mail partition). As remember the default setting for user quota should be both zero when create a new user.
man useradd and quota related command and no help, had any idea how to change/set the default quota when create user.
I am writing a php script and I need to find the total diskspace of a directory. I have used space already. I have a couple of different users with quotas
Code:
$path = "/home/" . ($_SERVER['PHP_AUTH_USER']);
$used = exec("du -c -a $path");
echo $used;
Will give me the disk space used. But I need total quota for that user.
i am using linux redHat 5 and fedora9 How can assgin disk space quota to particular user suppose i have 4 users
user1
user2
user3
user4
All four users have a each folder
/data/folder1
/data/folder2
/data/folder3
/data/folder4
i want to assign space limit/restriction of 100MB on each on folder.
I am currently attempting to setup Samba 3 (installed) for a basic home-network file-sharing server via Ubuntu 10.04. It seems like (based on my extensive googling and research) nobody wants or has a configuration like I do, but surely SOMEBODY knows how to do this.
The following is my goal for a basic setup.
Folder 1 (share is called "Read-Write"):
-Users from Windows 7 can see, read, write, execute, create, or delete any files and folders in Folder 1 as they so desire.
-Users can accomplish all of this from as "guest."
Folder 2 (share is called "Read-Only"):
-I can log in as my user to see, read, write, execute, create, or delete any files and folders in Folder 2 as I so desire.
-People other than me can log in as "guest."
-"Guest" users from Windows 7 can see, read, and execute programs as desired.
Things I have accomplished:
-Directories exist
-Directories are browseable via Windows 7
-My user has a password for Samba (assigned via "sudo smbpasswd -a matthew)
Things I have not yet been able to accomplish:
-Configure Folder 2 so that Samba asks for login credentials when someone tries to access it SO THAT I an use my Samba user to log in.
-Configure Folder 2 so that, when I log in as my Samba user, I can see, read, write, execute, create, or delete any files and folders in Folder 1 as I so desire.
-Configure Folder 2 so that Windows 7 users can easily access it as guest to browse, read, and execute files and folders in it.
-Configure Folder 1 so that any Windows 7 user can easily access it as guest to see, read, write, execute, create, or delete any files and folders in Folder 1 as they so desire.
Is there a way that I can set a quota for all new users that get created? I want to limit the hard drive space they get. I don't want to have to keep setting each new users quota either.
I am running Ubuntu 10.4 LTS 64Bit
I have two 1TB hard drives, one in my Linux server (running Debian, but I thought I'd ask here anyway) and one in my Windows desktop.
What I would like is a file synchronization program that will automatically (or scheduled via cron) synchronize my hard drive on Linux with my hard drive on Windows via Samba.
I can't seem to connect to it when using windows 7. Both are in the same workgroup (W0RKGR0UP) and I have set DHCP address for the ubuntu box. Is there any other thing that I would still need to edit ? My router address is 192.168.0.1 and the fixed ip for ubuntu box is 192.168.0.103.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got a situation where I would normally use NFS, but cannot. So in it's place I need to use a samba share (even though it's linux -> linux). I need it completely open and world writeable as if I had done an rw in an NFS export. I thought I had it as when logged in as a user I can edit delete etc. however the apache user seems to be struggling with creating files.
Here's my smb.conf as it stands.
Code:
[global]
workgroup = WGRP
server string = Samba Server Version %v
security = user
passdb backend = tdbsam
unix extensions = no
[tmp]
comment = Temp Directory
path = /var/tmp
public = yes
guest ok = yes
writeable = yes
browseable = yes
[sites]
comment = Sites Directory
path = /var/www/sites
public = yes
guest ok = no
write list = siteusr
writeable = yes
create mask = 0777
browseable = no
security mask = 0777
directory security mask = 0777
note that the drive is mapped as user siteusr
What I can do to open it up more?
I'm trying to load a HP Proliant w/ Fedora 11 and setting up as a WFS using Samba. However, I'm a bit confused on how to do it. Right now I have 2 36.4GB drives in RAID 1+0 and 4 146.8GB drives in a RAID 5 config. I wanna use the smaller drive for the OS and the bigger drive for the storage. I've managed to load the OS fine, the problem is I can't figure out how to mount the 4 146.8GB drives as a single logical volume and set Samba to use it. Right now all the RAIDs are setup using the built-in Compaq Smart Array utility (or whatever it's called) that's built into the SCSI hardware or BIOS.

The problem is that I need to be able to access it from outside networks (physically I'm about 10 miles away from my home network),o I need to also set up some sort of DynDNS service so that I can access the server from anywhere.With this, with setting up a DynDNS, setting up Samba, and setting up my machine to be secure enough for these types of actions. (I just want to make sure it is secure enough since it will need to be detectable from the internet.)
View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I finally managed to get my Samba file server working () but now I have a question. On the server I have 4 folders, each being used for a certain topic. How would I set the folders as read only but not the contents, so that way remote users can read/write to the folder but can't delete or rename the folder itself? Also, if I restart the Linux box it will cease to show on the Windows Network unless I delete the Samba share and remake.

I would prefer to learn how to lower the amount of data on this disk to bring under my disk quota of 50% in order to stop these emails being produced by the cron job running on this server.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if I can set diskquota on a nfs mount, instead of where the folder actually located.
e.g.
HOST1 - /dev/sdb1 /home
exports /home to HOST2
HOST2 - HOST1:/home /home
set quota from HOST2 for /home
Is this possible? I have not tried it, I wonder if anyone tried it.
I have a Samba server and it works except other users can't connect to it. The admin account can connect to the share fine but when I add other users they can't connect.These are the commands I used to make and add users

What is the best way to create a hard (OS) quota on disk space folders? Basically in web root folder /var/www/lighttpd I have a folder called domains. I want to set a quota on each domain folder. The quota sizes will vary per folder. Is there a way to do this without creating a user for every domain? Currently every folder is owned by the lighttpd user and group.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Diskquota on CentOS 5.1 machine. I enabled quota for some user with 1 GB as both hard and soft limits, Grace period is 0. Every this is working fine if we work from normal user's login say (user1 who is a system user). If he exceeds 1GB its will restrict that saying quota exceeded. But, If root user copies some 500MB files into his workspace, and change the ownership of those files using following command
chown user1.user1 * ( * is 500 MB files).
Then quota is exceeded and it is showed using:
repquota /home
user1 +- 2039960 997020 997020 none 298 0 0
Here its showing as some 2GB.
Soft limit is 951 MB.
So, my problem is restrict quota from all possible ways, i.e., even if root does some copying and change permissions, it must tell that disc quota exceeded.
When i try to create a new samba user the computer locks up and i get this message. can someone help me out. TB08997608 connection.py:630:call_blockingBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Launch helper exited with unknown return code 1
