Ubuntu One :: One Computer And A Directory On Another Not Syncing?
Dec 6, 2010
this is the first app I have ever seen that *requires* the gnome key deamon (irritating thing that needs to be shot) but I'm trying to sync things on three systems and this just doesn't work. One system just stopped working.. no errors, nothing in /messages. The other two haven't synced a directory in months and I can't see any reason why not.Great idea but this app is a FAIL. Anyone doing this successfully through something else before I set up scripts and cron?

I've followed these instructions:Quote:Setup instructions for Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick)Before setting up Ubuntu One, you should ensure your system is up to date. Run Update Manager to install any necessary updates by going to System Administration Update Manager. You may need to restart your system. Once it's up to date, you can begin this setup process.Already have an Ubuntu One accountOpen Ubuntu One Preferences from the "Me" menu (your username in the upper right corner) or from System Preferences Ubuntu OneThe Ubuntu One SSO window will open prompting you to either sign up for an account or login with an existing account.Click on the Already have an existing account? Click here to sign in link at the bottom of the window.
Enter your email address and password. Click the Connect button. A success message should appear. Click the Close button to close the Ubuntu One SSO window. In Ubuntu One Preferences click on the Devices tab and then the Connect button to connect to the service. Use Ubuntu One Preferences to monitor current synchronization activity and manage your Ubuntu One preferences. Review the Ubuntu One features or use our support resources if you have questions. I've gone through it a few times and it always seems to be successful, but I keep getting the same results; all fields in the Ubuntu One Preferences app. say unknown, the field under the window title is blank and next to it, it says unknown, Name, E-mail, and Current plan all say unknown. It also says Synchronization in progress and will seem to say that indefinitely.
I'm getting rather frustrated and don't know why its not working like its supposed to. I can log in to my Ubuntu One account just fine on line but for what ever reason it will not recognize my computer. I really like the idea behind Ubuntu one and I can see how this could be extremely helpful but it proving difficult to get up and running,FWIW I also ran this command: u1sdtool -s which produced the following output:
State: QUEUE_MANAGER
connection: With User With Network
description: processing queues

I'm trying to get our linux servers to use Active Directory (AD), and have gotten our linux (RHEL 5) server to fetch users and groups from AD. Now I'd like to add computers (and groups of computers) to AD, and have our linux boxes make use of this info. Does anyone know how to get our linux-boxes to understand computers and computer group objects on AD?

I'm trying to setup an Apache server on my computer which will allow browsing of files in a specific directory and subdirectories, without needing any sort of authentication.
I've got the Apache2 server up and running through yast, and everything works fine as long as I try to point it to the /www/htdocs folder. However, I want to point it at another folder, which is on another partition. This partition is formatted as NTFS, if that matters at all (here's some background on some permissions issues I had with the NTFS partitions recently).
When I change the "Directory" setting in the Yast http server configuration utility to the directory on the NTFS partition I wish to use, attempting to access the server results in the following error:
Code: Access Forbidden: You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.

I have the latest version of Ubuntu, but I still can't update the music on my ipod with rhythm box.So here is the deal. I put a handful of songs on my ipod using my windows computer at my parents house. Now, when I plug my iphone into my computer, the device shows up, and I am able to add and delete songs in rhythm box. The computer says it's working, and the ipod says its syncing, but once its done syncing, none of the old songs are deleted, and none of the new songs are added. Also, the old songs can't be played anymore. I've looked all around for a solution to this problem but no one can help.

I have two computers. One has UNR installed and the other Karmic. I back up my home folder from Karmic monthly. Is there any reason why I could not just copy the home folder from Karmic over the UNR home folder to synchronize my computers? I wasn't sure if UNR might not like this idea...

I can sync my Motorola Droid using the USB cable without any problems but I don't always have the USB cable with me and I haven't been able to sync my Droid using bluetooth. My laptop can see the Droid and the Droid can see my computer but it says on my Droid "Paired but not connected". All I want to do is send files back and forth (tethering would be nice but I don't really need to be able to do that).
I can now (I'm really not sure why) send files from my laptop running Ubuntu 9.10 to my Droid but I can't send files from my Droid to my Laptop. Also when I try to "Browse file on device" I don't see any devices even when I select phone as device type.

Being tired of my FAT32 partitions on my 80GB Classic, I had it reformatted on a Macintosh to HFS+ (Mac-formatted) at the Apple Store. As per the abundance of threads online, I also had them disable journaling through the Mac's Disk Utility and it appeared it was ready for Ubuntu. I added the UUID to fstab to allow write privileges. Due to the issues I heard with getting it to mount in Banshee on 64-bit Karmic Koala, I used the killall -9 nautilus command and successfully got Banshee to read and mount the iPod. After syncing my iPod, I verified that the content successfully transferred as the disk was now showing a large portion of the drive in use (presumably from the new media). After disconnecting my iPod, from both Banshee and from Nautilus, the iPod presumably safely unmounts and disconnects giving me the okay to unplug it. Whether I unplug it or not, after the OK to Disconnect progress bar completes, the iPod freezes (showing the silver Apple logo). After a while, it seems to turn itself back on, but doesn't show any media on the device. In fact, when I select 'About', it shows 0GB used and 0GB free (strange!).
I've been to the Apple Store about three times to have them reformat it and start over as I keep thinking I'm doing something wrong along the way. The data seems to be ON the iPod as I can play it back through Banshee (and on GTKpod), but the iPod menu itself doesn't seem to recognize anything and I can't access the music through the iPod. I think the iPod database may be corrupted, but I don't understand why this is not corrected with a full restore and why I seem to be able to access the music through Ubuntu.
(P.s. I do NOT want to have to go back to a Windows-formatted, FAT32, iPod.)
(P.p.s. I changed the permissions to my user rather than the 99 or something it was before. Also, whenever I load the iPod in Banshee, it shows all the songs on the iPod.)

I just installed ubuntu 10.04 x64. I have installed it and set it up the way I like on my server, however I now have 3 terminals and a laptop to set it up on the exact same way. As a result Id like some advice on what can and cant be done and how. Preferably I am looking to use programs with GUIs. Thing the style of ubuntu one, software manager etc, not really too into the command line, or conf editing unless there is no other option.
1. I installed all the software from software centre I like. Now I need the same software on the other computers. I know mint has mintbackup where it just exports and imports a list if installed software. I am looking for an ubuntu equivalent.
2. Firefox and Thunderbird add-ons. I install like 20 firefox and thunderbird add ons. sometimes I can't even keep track of them. There must be a way to sync them so that each computer I install ubuntu on I can simply import the list of mozilla add ons and have it auto download them.
3. Mail Contacts and Calender Syncing. I need to sync between my 3 ubuntu machines and my windows mobile 6.5 device for calender, email/phone/name contact lists. Email is taken care of by imap, but lightnings calender isnt and neither are the contacts. If I input a contact on my phone I want it to sync to the other computers I use.
4. Ubuntu one. I have /storage/workfolder in my root directory on my personal server. I want to be able to work on documents at work on my laptop and sync them so that when I get home, they are synced on the server without causing overwrite changes etc.
5. Desktop settings, icon themes, preferences from ubuntu tweak etc. I know this one is a bit more of a long shot, but it takes 20 minutes each computer, to set up the little maximize minimize buttons on the other side, set up cairo dock the way I like, install the icon theme and backgrounds I like. isnt there a way to back this up so it doesnt have to be done each time or so I can make my other computers the same?

Ubuntu one on my computer has stopped syncing sometime in the past week. It was working fine last week. I downloaded an album from the music store & it never showed up locally. I had to go to the website in Firefox to get the files.
In the UbuntuOne preferences it says it's connected. It shows my correct account information. Limit bandwidth usage is not checked. At the top it says "Synchronization in progress..." but it isn't doing anything.
For the record, the u1sdtool output says code...

I am running Firefox 3.6.12 on Ubuntu 10.10. I did all the updates.
I am running a highspeed connection with Cox cable.
I am running the following add-ons.
AdBlockPlus
BeefTaco
BetterPrivacy
DownloadHelper
Ghostery
GoogleSharing
NoScript
TestPilot
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications
Xmarks
I disabled Xmarks and installed Firefox Sync. I tried Firefox Sync several times with no luck. I keep getting "Error While Syncing". When I check for further information, I get the message "Unable to Sync ... Unknown Error."
Xmarks still works fine but, as it is going to end soon, I would like to replace it.

This is some really weird issue. Whenever I plug in the iTouch, it plays that one connection sound twice, pretty close to eachother. The first time, on Rhythmbox, it shows up the iTouch. On the second tone, which is the same tone, it disappears. What's up with this?

I've used Ubuntu one for file syncing on my work and home computer (started on 10.10 only recently upgraded to 11.04, work is XP) and while it seems a tad slow in syncing it worked okay. Though I've used alternatives because they seem more responsive.
Well I've recently upgraded to 11.04 on my comp at home and installed 11.04 on my lappy (new install). Both are 64-bit version of Ubuntu. Thought I'd start using the other sync features and see how it fairs.
Well files appear to be okay (though I haven't tested it thoroughly yet), but I cannot get firefox bookmarks or tomboy to sync at all. I've searched through the forums but it appears to be only comments about it not working, I've yet to see anyone with a solution. I've checked out .cache/ubuntuone/log and all the syncdeamon exception logs are empty. I also just threw a file into the Ubuntu One folder and it synced damn fast. so it appears the only issues is with the bookmarks and notes.

I'm using natty on a fresh install. Is there a way to disable the syncing of open files ? When working on a document, I tend to save every time I make a small change to the file. U1 tries to sync the file every time, but sometimes I resave new changes before the previous syncing is complete, resulting in conflicts with the cloud version of the file, sometimes downloading back an already outdated version of the file I'm working on (in addition to the various .u1conflict files created in my folder). I think a sensible behaviour would be to (be able to) wait until the file is closed to start the syncing

I know that iDevices do not support OGG, but on Ubuntu 10.10 when I synced my iPod Touch with Banshee, it would convert my music (all .ogg) and then sync it to the iPod without changing the original files. Now I'm on Kubuntu 11.04 (still using Banshee, I prefer it over Amarok) but when I try to sync now I just get errors saying .ogg is not supported. How can I fix this? I'd rather not convert all my music into .mp3 because (a) It goes against my free software values and (b) it would take forever.

I have three computers in my network, but two will be mentioned. Computer A is a Linux Mint 9/Windows 7 dual-boot, and I have just installed Mandriva Free 2010.2, which I will call Computer B.
Now my main problem is that Computer B, while it can see and access Computer A's shares as well as the third computer, the aforementioned computers cannot access Computer B. The message was: "Unable to mount location/Failed to mount Windows share." Now, the SMB protocol was used because of the third computer and Computer A have Windows OSs installed in them.
What I originally wanted was that I can share Computer B's NTFS partition, namely Documents and Downloads, to the other computers. And I can't do that, because of the error message.
What I can do, however, is use Computer B to view shares from the other two computers (Computer A, as an example). By my experiences in Linux Mint, I understand that I'd have to mount my Windows partitions in order to share them. I don't even know if my NTFS drive in Computer B is mounted, though that is what was described.

My computer developed a new trick tonight. 4 times in the last 2 hours it's booted & ran fine...for about 30 minutes or so. Then some apps become unstable & crash, and some don't notice anything wrong. Firefox keeps running fine, but if I have a nautilus window open, the next time you click anywhere, it crashes. So, try to restart the machine & it comes back with the "kernel panic -not syncing vfs unable to mount root FS on unknown block" message. The first time I restarted it, I managed to get to a root terminal & fsck the drive. It found 2 errors that it fixed, supposedly. The next collection of restarts, it would just go through bios, then grub, then hang on the error.
So, power down the machine first & then boot it....magically, I'm back to the desktop again for another 30-45 minutes. Anyone have any idea what's going on? It's been fine since the day mint was released...and the only system change was plugging my 2nd monitor back in 3 days ago. Why would it go kukoo in the last 2 hours? The machine is a quad core intel with 4 gigs of ram, Asus mobo and a 250gig sata drive for the system drive.
