Ubuntu :: No Sound On Presario V6719NR In Mint?

Jul 19, 2010

I installed Mint Isadora on my sons Lappy, and everything went great until I tried to listen to Music in Rythmbox, and I had no sound. I have excuted alsa -l through terminal, but it showed no Device Present, or something to that effect. When broaching the subject in Mint Chat, I had some excellant incite, but still no resolution. It may be a Connexant Audio Driver, which doesn't appear to be very well supported in the Linux Community.

Ubuntu :: Sound Doesn't Work On My Compaq Presario 2700 / Resolve This?

Mar 30, 2010

I'm not great with computers. I have no clue how to fix this kind of thing. I went into Alsamixer, and it says my card is an Intel 82801CA-ICH3. I have updated all of the files that needed updated, turned up the master volume and it still doesn't work. Somebody please explain this to me in words I can understand.

Ubuntu :: Sound Gone On Mint?

Apr 28, 2010

my sound stopped working on anything running through the browser (firefox) then shortly after I had no sound at all. I had just installed an update for mint earlier but the loss of sound was not immediate. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling firefox when I noticed no sound on it, but I am not sure if I did it right since it looks so different than the windows install process. I found the mint update packages but didn't immediately notice anything that might be sound (but what do I know)

Ubuntu :: Mint 9 No Sound In New HP Laptop - Fresh Install

Sep 21, 2010

I did was install MInt 9 on it. Everything is going well except no sound at all. Not even the 'start up chime' of any music/videos. I have the volume buttons working on the laptop and I have checked sound preferences and nothing is muted. I did not dig much further as I have learned with mint and ubuntu that can create problems. This is a fresh install and no sound from the get go. How should I proceed to trouble shoot?

Debian :: Mint XFCE - No Sound After Updates

May 5, 2011

I've recently installed Mint XFCE (Debian based). After activating the backport repos, a lot of things were upgraded, one of them being XFCE, which upgraded to 4.8. After that, I can't listen to songs or hear any kind of audio. Prior to the update, everything was OK. Why do I get only the "dummy output" indication? I've been using Linux for more than three years, so I have some knowledge on the sport. Nevertheless, I've never had such an issue.

General :: Ancient Thinkpad Running Mint 9 Cannot Get Sound To Endure Re-boot?

Dec 6, 2010

with the help of others (to whom grateful thanks), I've managed to get this distro installed and my PCMCIA Wireless card working without a LAN connection!Result......well it was for me!next big prob is sound.......any sound at all! This command sudo modprobe snd-cs4236 sometimes gives me some, just for the current session, if it don't want to play, it just ignores me!Two main questions,

1) How do I get the attention of the "Alsa Mixer"? (the GUI is normally just blank and may or may not be activated by the above command!)
2) Once I have the attention of the "Alsa mixer", how do I maintain it upon re-boot?

Some one guided me to this post and despite it's age, I appended my plea for help....but I fear it is not the correct place............I just hope I'm now in the right place.url

Ubuntu Installation :: Presario: How To Access The BIOS

Feb 28, 2010

I was given an old Compaq Presario computer; it had a 3.2GB hard drive with windoze 98 (put your crucifixes down, please) and a somewhat broken CD drive. I replaced the CD with a spare DVD ROM and the hard drive was replaced with a spare 250GB. I also removed the old ISA Fax/modem and installed a PCI network card. On top of this I also burned a copy of Xubuntu 8.04 on my main PC, for loading onto the old timer.

But then I came to use the old machine, the BIOS recognised the new DVD ROM, but no menu appeared, just the word "COMPAQ", any attempt to access the BIOS met with no response, (would not respond to "Del" or "Esc" or any of the "F" keys) the PC then attempts to boot from the hard drive (it had an old version of, what I think may be Ubuntu, as it comes up with a GRUB error 1!

I did notice the DVD ROM drive's light flash during the boot sequence. how to access the BIOS?It would be a shame for me to throw this old PC out! (I could always salvage the parts, I have 2 other motherboards and cases ready to make up some more computers, making 5 computers in my network)

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 Or 10.10 On A Compaq Presario SR1503WM?

Oct 20, 2010

After using Ubuntu for a while I have decided I wanted to do a fresh install onto my PC, however being rather old it (about 6 years old), It seems I cannot get any recent kernels to run on the system. As such, I cannot get the live CD to boot. After searching for hours to find a solution I have found nothing.

Upgrading also breaks the system as well, So to do so wouldn't work.[URL].. with addition of a 256MB RAM chip and starting with a 512 rather then the 256 stated on the page. and a ATI Radeon 9800.

Is there anyway I can get newer kernels/Live CD to boot? I've tried all options i've found in other threads but no go.

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Re-partition HD On Presario CQ62-225NR

May 10, 2011

Last year, I bought a Presario CQ62-225NR running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium. With the recent release of Natty, Ive decided to take the plunge and try out the Unity interface. In preparing the hard drive for dual booting Ubuntu, I shrunk the C: Windows partition using Disk Manager and deleted the D: RECOVERY partition.

The 200mb hidden SYSTEM boot partition and the 100mb E: HP_TOOLS partition were untouched.

So far so good. I now have an unallocated block of free space roughly 140 GB in size between the Windows Partition and HP_TOOLS partition. Disk Management shows the three remaining partitions to be healthy.

However, after I boot into the Gparted live-CD, Im presented with a small mess. Every partition is lite up with caution signs. A new partition that doesnt appear under Disk Manager has popped up out of nowhere. And all the labels have now been shifted.

In short, before partitioning:

/dev/sda1; ntfs; SYSTEM; 199mb; boot
/dev/sda2; ntfs; [no label]; 286.29gb
/dev/sda3; ntfs; RECOVERY; 11.5gb
/dev/sda4; fat32; HP_TOOLS

[Code].....

I took the precaution of saving a disk image with Clonezilla before starting this adventure. Though the computer can run Windows just fine right now, I may choose to find out soon if the stored image can properly restore everything. Then Ill have another go at repartitioning the HD to get Ubuntu installed. how to avoid the same results?

Ubuntu Installation :: 11.04 Hangs On Compaq Presario M2000 Laptop

Jun 16, 2011

I'm trying to install Lubuntu 11.04 CD on a Compaq Presario M2000 Laptop to replace XP.
Processor: Intel Pentium Celeron M
RAM: 256mb
Existing O/S XP SP3 (boots & runs but is very slow)
Hard Drive 40GB (28Gb free)

Installation hangs about 1 minute after selecting language in both try Lubuntu & install Lubuntu modes. Have also left the laptop running all night to see if it was just a slow install. Have tried various other disks (Xbuntu, Puppy, Mint, Lubuntu 10.04), which have worked on other PC/laptops ok, but all stall after the language settings. Have tried burning the Lunbuntu iso with both Windows & Ubuntu at slow speeds & have verified the burnt iso. The laptop BIOS cannot be set to boot from usb, so an external CD or USB stick installation may not work? The BIOS has been updated to the latest one on the Compaq web site this morning. Although I have installed a few flavours of Linux on various hardware, I'm still a real Linux newbie. Can Lubuntu be installed within Windows, but still format the hard drive to ext2/3 ?

Ubuntu :: Converting Compaq Presario CQ56 Laptop To The Full OS?

Jun 20, 2011

New member here. Was introduced to Ubuntu by the IT guy at my last place of work and liked it so much, I ran WUBI on my laptop for a couple of months before taking the plunge and today fully converting my Compaq Presario CQ56 Laptop to the full Ubuntu OS.

The only issue I have is I have no sound whatsoever. I have seen some suggestions where you should check the hardware drivers and when I do that the only driver that appears is for ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver. It also says this driver is active and currently in use.

So, can anyone else offer some help. I love the system and the way it does everything but it needs sound. Incidentally when I ran WUBI (while Windows 7 was on there) I did not have a problem with the sound!

Ubuntu :: Compaq Presario 2100 Won't Load On Normal Boot?

Mar 20, 2011

I'm trying to breathe life into this old laptop; so I installed Ubuntu on it and ran into a problem loading it in Desktop mode.

When I want to start into it normally, it gets to the home screen and does a quick frame skip, kind of like an old VHS tape, and then fails to load the toolbars on top and bottom.

Loading into safe mode works great, but no wireless option seems to be available in safe mode?

The normal boot even gets to the "Ubuntu!" welcome sound, but... then nothing. I looked up a few Linux keyboard shortcuts and none of them function. So.

Also did the updates in safe mode. Update Manager did NOTHING when I clicked "install updates" button, so I did it through the terminal sudo get-updates/upgrades.
