Ubuntu Networking :: Kppp: Pppd Terminates On Signal 15?
Dec 14, 2010
I am using kppp in ubuntu10.10 to connect via my samsung c3010 mobile and Airtel connection. But when I dial through it, it terminates on signal 15! Some requests are rejected it seems. I am pasting the log:
Dec 14 20:08:02 pratik pppd[1883]: pppd 2.4.5 started by pratik, uid 1000
Dec 14 20:08:02 pratik pppd[1883]: using channel 5
Dec 14 20:08:02 pratik pppd[1883]: Using interface ppp0
Dec 14 20:08:02 pratik pppd[1883]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyACM0
[Code]....
I am connecting the modem over USB. The GUI shows me it is dialling the number, and then connecting to the network, and after a while ( it sends it 9 times it seems) it terminates.
I have a Novatel 760 broadband USB device and I use kppp to connect though it is extremely slow (ping takes 100ms). What I need is a way to make kppp connect on reboot without any interaction from the user. I have looked on the Internet, but I did not find anything useful. I am using kppp because I could not get gnome-ppp to connect and it does not seem to have the features of kppp.
We are running Ubuntu on VMWare EXS Server 3i (32 bit server). We tried upgrading from Version 9.4 to 9.10. The server will not boot. It throws networking errors then just comes to a blank black screen.
Here is most of the screen: /dev/sda5 was not cleanly unmounted, check forced. (note - this is due to having turned it off at the black screen - that much I get) /dev/sdd1: recovering journal /dev/sdb1: recovering journal /dev/sdc1: recovering journal /dev/sdb1: clean, 74772/6553600 files, 15793957/26214055 blocks (check in 5 mounts) /dev/sdd1: clean, 22599/6553600 files, 15036060/26214055 blocks /dev/sdc1: clean, 381500/13107200 files, 34291998/52428119 blocks Filesystem checks are in progress (ESC to cancel): ***** here is where I think things are going bad ************ init: network-interface (eth0) pre-start process (535) terminated with status 1 init: network-interface (eth0) post-stop process(61 terminated with status 1 init: network-interface (lo) pre-start process (615) terminated with status 1 init: network-interface (lo) post-stop process(62 terminated with status 1 /dev/sda5: 105/124496 files (34.3% non-contiguous), 18894/.248976 blocks mountall: fsck /boot [410] terminated with status 1 fsck from util-linux-ng 2.16 /dev/FileU32-root: clean, 69429/734400 files, 540860/2933760 blocks init: networking main process (70 terminated with status 1
I have a couple of questions for anybody willing to answer them. I have a GSM modem with a t-mobile SIM card that I am currently trying to use to connect to the Internet. I am using Lucid amd64 machine.I have been running wvdial with a baud rate of 115200 with much success getting the output below:
Code: sudo wvdial --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60
QUESTION: Where do I add "pppd nomagic" to stop analog modem loopback errors? (I am using Gnome PPP.)BACKGROUND INFO:I am using Ubuntu LTS 8.04 on a laptop and have an analog modem connected via USB serial cable. I'm looking for a tutorial on how to create a simple pppd tunnel between two machines. I've found alot of tutorials about pppd over ssh (using the pty option) but for the purpose I just want a simple pppd tunnel.

I can connect to Strongvpn (pptp) through command line call 'sudo pppd call stongvpn' followed by' route add default dev ppp0'. Everything works well.I would like to set this up on start up. I use kde. I have set up basic /etc/init.d/strongvpn script which gets called at boot and creates ppp0 but the route command does not seem to work. When I use command route add in terminal the connection comes up.Here's my /etc/init.d script
I'm using fedora core-8. I need to setup dialup server to accept dial up connection.Dial up server shoudl also allocate ip address to client (trying to connect using modem)If some one knows how to do this, please let me know.I'm trying to achieve peer to peer communication between two computers connected using modem on both side over PSTN line.
I want to connect to a vpn server and I'm using debian 5.
I installed Kvpnc package but when I try to make a new profile I choose "Microsoft pptp" as vpn type and I receive the following message: the required daemons (pppd and pptpd) aren't availabale
Is there anyway to download required daemons in another computer and use them in my computer (I'm worried about dependencies)?
My mother has Windows Vista and i have linux ubuntu. She has a special verizon card that she inserts into her laptop for internet. My computer also has an internal wireless card, but the signal here is very poor. Supposedly, among windows computers, I would be able to get a flashdrive, and with a little program uploaded from my moms computer, set things up using the flashdrive on my computer to share the internet that she pays good money for =/ However, it wont work with ubuntu, which isnt in the windows inner circle. When I open the executable file with WINE it says that it cant run wireless network setup "on this version of windows". lawl. I was wondering, is there any way around that? Is there anyway to network with my mothers internet?
I just installed 9.10 and this is my first time using Ubuntu. I was using Kubuntu before and used KPPP with my Verizon USB720 wireless card. It's the type that gets internet access through the cell towers.I installed KPPP but when I try to start it I get this error:
Quote:
Could not launch KPPP Failed to execute child process (permission denied)
I tried Gnome PPP and it would open but not connect. This is what is in my log files"
Quote:
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 --> Cannot get information for serial port. --> Initializing modem.

After doing much searching and reading I figured out to open Gnome PPP from the terminal with sudo. When I do that it works fine. Also KPPP opens that way although I haven't tried it to see if it connects. Although this works it's not a very convenient way to connect. How can I get it to work without doing this?
A problem with kppp. It will not detect modem after a fresh install. It did last week before Ubuntu 11.04 turned up its toes, but when it worked it was weird. It found the usb modem on /dev/ACM0 as user but /dev/usb/ACM0 if logged in as root. Now it will not open modem at all. Gnome ppp has no problem and wvdial correctly identifies it.
I recently upgraded to Debian Squeeze (6) from Debian Lenny (5). kppp was working in Lenny, but does not work now. It connects to the modem, and dials, but it then gives an error 1 (pppd error that apparently means "An immediately fatal error of some kind occurred, such as an essential system call failing, or running out of virtual memory.") Often the program freezes, and I have to use xkill to get rid of it. I can connect to the internet using pon/poff (via a setup with pppconfig), but kppp does not work. I'm a member of both dialout and dip groups. The file /etc/ppp/peers/kppp-options is set to noauth (it's uncommented, and thus working).
I'm looking for the idle setting in kppp, so that I can set a certain time for it to disconnect from the internet if the connection has been idle for some time (like 120 seconds). In doing a web search I found this forum posting that says that kppp has this setting somewhere, but I've looked, and I myself couldn't find it.
I was running windows vista 32 bit (NOW UBUNTU 9.10) on my custom built pc with a TP-LINK TL-WN353GD wireless pci card, before on vista my wifi signal strength would be in the low 70% range with a speed of 54 Mbps from a access point roughly 250 yards away, now with ubuntu 9.10 signal strength in the 15-20% range with a speed of 1 Mbps. My question is, what is the best way to overcome this wifi signal strength and speed problem, it is a noticable performance disadvatange easily seen on a website like ..... where as before videos would play 95% of the time without having to stop and catch up, would a different wireless pci card be a better choice than what I have, or is the problem in the software as in a driver incompatability or lack of correct driver, not sure how to remedy the problem.
I installed 10.04 1st by making a partition with bootcamp on MacOSX.Then I formatted the partition according to Ubuntu's instructions. I didn't install rEFIt, because I prefer to just hit the alt (option) key.I made the necessary adjustments according to URL...Community Ubuntu Documentation - and everything seemed to be working fine.I upgraded to Maverick and everything seemed to be working fine aswell. But then I noticed, that the wireless signal keeps failing and I'm asked to put the password again and again..
I don't think this is due to the upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10, but I just noticed it recently, maybe because of the air humidity, the signal was stronger a few days a go.. don't know!!Is there anything I can do?Perhaps install a new driver, or another wificlient, like Wifi-Radar??
I want to spawn a GDB session from bash script and keep it working to interact it from outside. But when I start it in background (with '&' sigil).
Code: gdb -x gdb_script.txt ./a.out < gdb_pipe.fifo & It executes passed script and terminates by itself (I do not pass any data or signals to it)
Code: Breakpoint 33, main (argc=1, argv=0xbffff0f4) at main.c:53 ---Type <return> to continue, or q <return> to quit---53 read_main_config(); (gdb) quit
A debugging session is active. Inferior 1 [process 5957] will be killed. Quit anyway? (y or n) [answered Y; input not from terminal] What can I do to make it alive?
I am trying to relaunch a process after it's name, not pid, terminates in C++. Is this possible? I am using g++ 4.3-4.4 on Fedora 10, wandering between my x86 and ppc machines. I just recompile.
Just like the title says, if I were to try to run anything through gksu and accidentally put in an incorrect password, instead of the gksu window coming up again, it would just terminate.
I installed WICD because I was looking around the internet and the Ubuntu forums said that it was the best fix for the Network Manager not working. I added the source and installed the package like the Ubuntu site said. I go to Applications => Internet => Wicd Network Manager. It says no wireless networks found. I know that the router is working because my sister is right here next to me playing Maplestory on her laptop! When I do the lshw -C network function in the terminal it is only bringing up two things: the network controller and the ethernet controller. I used Yahoo Answers as my first goto and the answers there said that Linux doesn't have the drivers for the router. I have a Netgear Wireless-N 300 Router WNR2000 and a Dell Inspiron 1750, if that helps. Can someone give me a link to the drivers or tell me in detail what to do?
I have Ubuntu 9.10 a dell laptop i am using a tew-644ub usb wireless adaptar and it's seeing signals but wont connect to any my network is unsecured and open. everytime i try it does this swirlly thing then says diconected. im using a diferent computer to post this so if there
i'm surrounded by concrete block wall but have found an unlocked wifi signal. but i need to do something to help boost the signal. my HP laptop has a built in wifi card and i'm looking for something that i could use or do to help boost the signal.
I just installed 10.10 on a Dell Inspiron 1300. The wired connection(eth0) works fine but I get no wireless signal when I unplug and try to connect to my network/internet. It shows that wlan0 does exist but it gets no signal. I've used the rfkill to make sure that it wasn't blocked and everything seems to be ok, except I get no wireless signal.
I uninstalled Network Manager and installed Wcid and it found nothing. I even tried installing several signal scanners I found in the package manager. I've removed, updated and reinstalled the broadcom drivers. I still get nothing. The wireless signal from my router is nonexistent according to Ubuntu.
The wireless works fine when I put my windows XP HD in and it also works fine when I put my Mepix or PCLinux OS HDs in the laptop. So I know that the wireless card is not busted.
I have p1,p2,p3,p4 some processes created by me in C. p1, p2, p3 are started individually from several consoles. And I want process p4 to terminates processes p1, p2, p3 if they are running. Which is the easiest way to accomplish that? put all processes in the same process group and send from p4 a kill signal to the group. But I couldn't do that because I cannot call successfully setpgid(getpid(), 15000) from p1-p4. It's there some way to put them in the same group? the processes don't have a child-parent relationship, they are launched manually from consoles.
Trying to connect a computer to the internet with a modem, and I know the modem works. Was just used the other day with another linux OS.If I go into the Kinfocenter and look under pci devices with the current F12 setup, the computer identifies a 3com corp modem division 56k faxmodem model 5610.(which is a hardware modem)
