Ubuntu Networking :: WiFi USB Not Recognized - No Internet Connection

I've been having 2 issues with my internet connection on ubuntu for as long as I can remember, I've tried updates but they haven't seemed to work so great and am pretty fed up with this. So I have a Netgear wg111t wireless usb dongle which I got working through ndiswrapper. The 2 issues I am having are:
1. After a random period of time my internet just decides to disconnect, the strange thing is the bars at the top still say I'm connected. The only way to get the internet working again is to turn the pc off and on. Another way I have experienced this happening is usually when I'm downloading something off a torrent.
2. After restarting my pc the wifi usb isn't recognised and I can't connect to the internet.
I've just installed the 64 bit 10.04 onto my new netbook, with ample specs to run the full desktop version rather than the stripped down netbook version. My only problem (at the moment) is that my wired internet connection is not recognized within the operating system, yet while I was downloading/installing Ubuntu it had no problem finding and using the connection then. When I boot into Windows 7 or plug the ethernet cable into my Mac, the connection is established immediately, and no need for manual entering of anything because everything is auto-detected. The really strange thing is I've run Ubuntu off a USB stick and when booting off that the wired connection was immediately recognized after startup.
After having trouble with Ubuntu 9.10 (solved with a nice modemmanager bug fix by a great user) here we are with the new Lucid Lynx: until now, just to be safe, I am trying my Nokia CS-10 USB stick (for wireless 3g connection) with the Live Ubuntu, and it doesn't even get recognized (no red light or anything else)...
I face in getting my wireless connection work. I am able to establish connection with my router and browse router configuration pages successfully. However, trying to access any other internet address (through browser or ping etc) results in intolerable poor performance (70% to 100% packet loss in ping). Ethernet connection (eth0) works perfectly though. Am furnishing the details below:

I want to share my internet connexion via ad-hoc WiFi. If it's unsecured, it works fine, but when I use WPA encryption, it doesn't work anymore! I can connect from my iPod touch, but no internet. I connect to the internet from my laptop, via eth0 I want to share my internet connection via wlan0 I have no idea what's wrong
I have been using windows 7 for awhile now, and i was using connectify (an internet connection sharing program that turns your laptop into a wireless router), and i'm planning on completely switching to Linux from a dual boot, and i was wandering if there is a way to share an internet connection (mainly to my PS3) on Ubuntu 10.04 x64, and wirelessly if possible, though i wouldn't mind if it was through Ethernet.
Im living in a student-city where we get one internet-cable in the wall each, if we need more we are told to use a switch. But, since ive got some tech that depends on wifi, I was wondering if its possible to setup my ubuntu to work like a sort of wifi-switch?
Basically, Im not allowed to set up anything that resembles a router..(so no dhcp) all i need is what a switch would do, only wireless and wpa/wep would be very nice
Atm ive got my cabled network plugged into my onboard ethernet-port, and ive got a d-link DWA-556 (Atheros AR5008 I think) wifi card that i wanted to use to share my connection. is this doable?
I was connected to internet by wired connection in my home. I was able to share my Internet connection to other computer by proxy using squid. My question is, Can I share my internet connection to mobile device by WiFi? I'm using ubuntu 9.10 in my laptop.
I have a Ubuntu 10.04 laptop that gets its Internet connection via WIFI using WICD as network manager, and Windows XP desktop with no Internet connection. What I want to do is share my Internet connection from my laptop with my desktop via a Ethernet cable. But i have no idea what to do. How do i go about doing this?
I have two computers: - one is my desktop, running ubuntu. it has two NIC's one is wired (eth0), the other is wireless (wlan0). - the other is my laptop, running archlinux. two NIC's as well (eth & wlan).
I would like to connect my desktop to my router via eth0 and connect my laptop to my desktop via wlan0, providing internet access to my laptop. i would like both computers to be able to use the internet simultaneously (not all packets would be forwarded).
Any manner of doing this would be ok, but if this is a simple enough task to do it by simply configuring some files (e.g. /etc files) rather than installing some unnecessarily big application, then that would be wonderful!
Also, not really as high a priority but if possible, i would like this to perhaps not be limited to my laptop. connecting any device (a psp or pda for example) to the internet this way (making it a hotspot in a sense) would be super! encrypting the connection (WEP for instance) would be ultra-mega!
Miscellaneous info:my desktop uses dhcp to connect to the router.
I've been reading around, but not had much success at all in trying to share the internet connection from my laptop to my phone.all the articles i read refer to earlier versions of Ubuntu and the packages they mention have become obsolete, according to the apt-get tool.im not that new to Linux, but my networking probably isn't up to scratch.if anyone could help me, that would be great, im using Ubuntu 10.04 at the time of writing.
I just installed wubi, and it looks awesome, I'm surprised, but I'm disappointing of 2 things. First time when I start ubuntu it freeze. 1st thing:I don't know how to make a broadband connection,that's what I'm using in W7. In the top right of the corner it says "wired connection off ,you're offline" 2nd it doesn't recognize the E drive, the drive where it is installed.
i just thought the last few days about trying Ubuntu. so i did. i got a nice and fresh copy of Ubuntu Desktop version and installed it, everything worked great except my wireless usb 2.0 card. the only internet connection i have under windows is Wifi and i hoped that my dongle will be recognized by Ubuntu automatically...(naturally, it wasn't the case.)
so my adapter looks exactly like this one here, except for the color, it's white and it has my WISP's name written on it (i got it from them, along with a cd that offers win xp/98/me drivers...)
so even everest sees it's atheros and it's the Atheros AR5523 chipset.
i also have windows 7 64bit drivers if they help...
anyway, i can't get it to work and cannot access the internet any other way when on Ubuntu, so i have to use an already-saved driver..
A few weeks ago I decided to install Ubuntu and try it. I was really exited about running Ubuntu in my computer. I was all fired up about the new software I installed. I found that I needed an internet connection to get additional software. So my first task was to get an internet connection, I did a lot of research about this subject and I encounter small but a lot of difficulties.
I was trying with an internal modem in my computer and with a WiFi antenna with no success.
I don't want to give up, at least not yet, I hope that someone in this forum can lead me to get a successful internet connection.

I have 2 connections, wlan and wired, and I'd want to have a few websites (in my browser) to connect through the wireless connection while other go through the wired rj45 connection. s it possible? (without unplugging the rj45 cable...)
so I had to reinstall Ubuntu.But now my Wireless card won't work. It used to work before (plug and play), and I have no problem with it when I boot from the CD.I cannot use my cable connection because as soon as I plug my computer in, the network crashes, the router doesn't respond, gets hot and refuses to work until I unplug it and let it cool off for 2 minutes.I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, Desktop PC.

I discovered that the wifi usb dongle i used for years went bad so i got an asus dongle that i cant get working.Might it be because my system is looking for my old one and the new one isnt being recognized? (e.g.wlan setting?)
I have discovered the world of freewares not long ago and it surprised me! To go a bit further, I have installed Lubuntu 10.4 LTS on an old laptop: HP Pavilion zv5326 with 256 Mo RAM.
Everything works fine except the wifi.

From what I understand, my wifi card is recognized so I do not need to install a driver with ndiswrapper, right?
What should I do then? Is there a solution at all?
(Livebox-afe5 is the wifi connection I use with my other laptop.)
I am running Ubuntu 10.10, and I would like to use my computer to share the internet connection from an ethernet port. For example, I would like to set up my computer as a wireless access point so I can create a network that other computers can connect to for internet.
I have a problem to configure my wifi card, a dwa-110 from D-Link, it is not recognized when I launch System / network device control (only ethernet connections appear), and it is the same thing in Administration / network / network configuration. But if I launch administration / hardware / system devices, the last line is "Ralink 802.11 bg WLAN"... When I try to add in the window "network configuration" (from above) some new stuff, I specifying the kind of hardware (wireless) and when I have to enter the name of the card I don't see my card. On other OSes, I used ndiswrapper, but I wasn't able to install it on CentOS (dependencies required and it's hard with only a USB key to install the stuff...) How to see if the card is recognized, if I have to use ndiswrapper and so on. I have an internal PCI network card also, maybe it is this card which is recognized.
I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my IBM thinkpad a30p. now everything seems to work fine, except for the wifi card (edimax ew-7708il) i have. PCMCIA modules are loaded, but the card just doesn't appear in the network devices...
I manage to install debian on my flex 10 (lenovo), but now internet is not working, i can see the network, but even being able to connect to them i can't access the net...
I have 2 laptop with opensuse 11.2. One of them is connected to the Internet through a Mobile Connection with a CDMA/EDVO modem on the usb port. I want to share the Internet connection with the other laptop through the WiFi interface of each of them. How should I proceed?
I just installed 10.04 on my new netbook and I am suprised to see that the ethernet is not recognized. When I run

The machine was working fine before I installed Ubuntu. I am suprised to see this problem as I have already installed it on a few machines without any problem such as this.
I'm a Linux newbie. Used to use Ubuntu, but I switched to Slackware because I want to learn how Linux works better.
On my Samsung qx410 laptop, I can't connect to the internet. I went to the System Settings -> Network Settings and all the tabs there, but it wouldn't detect any connection, wireless nor wired.
I noticed that the kernel of Slackware 13.1 is out of date, so I tried compiling a newer one, but I couldn't get that to work.
I tried downloading this file: iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1.tgz but even after reading the readme, I had no clue how to go about installing it or even whether it was the right thing to install in the first place.
Its a case of ".... wireless network connection active but still not internet connection .."I am using WEP - 128 key ... Works when I connect directly using ethernet cable ... but not wireless (pci and wireless router)
while my brother was browsing the web on my windows partition he had a blue screen pop up, one of the soft/hardware error ones, not a true BSOD, anyways, ever since my lan port on the computer seems to not be activiating as no wired connection is recognized. The lan port/card is directly attached to the Mother Board, it's a gigabyte motherboard in a self-build computer. I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to troubleshoot this and see if it is truly a hardware problem or if its something else.
I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.
I seem to have is trying to get the internet to work. I can go to ..... ect but when I try to run playonlinux it says you do not seem to be connected to the internet, please post if you have anything useful, as I said I am very new to linux so be as detailed as possible.
