Ubuntu Networking :: Network Disabled On Acer Aspire With BCM4312 802.11 B/g (Broadcom)

Aug 7, 2010

I'm running Kubuntu and Windows on the same machine but when I swap over to Kubuntu I can't get the wireless to work. The lshw command returns network disabled but the machine can see that there is a wlan0 connection.

I've been trying to install the broadcom Linux driver from their site but the instructions fall apart at step 3: cd bnx...version/ ( directory just created by tar). I'm guessing this is because I don't have a Live CD (after almost a week of trying to burn a disc I just broke down and got Wubi) but that doesn't change the fact I have no idea what to do now or if this will even work.

If it makes any difference, the wired connection will also occasionally die mysteriously after about 30-60 minutes of use and refuse to re-activate but work fine when I switch over to Windows or just plug it into the router.

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom BCM4312 Dell Studio - Built In Wireless Card - 'disabled' And No Longer Works

Jun 10, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu x64 on my dell studio 1535 using the windows installer (wubi).

All seems to be working fine apart from the built in wireless card, the proprietary driver (found in hardware drivers) installs and activates successfully and works perfectly. Until I shut down or restart the system. On the next boot the wireless card is 'disabled' and no longer works.

The card I have is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g

I am going to try a proper install on a second partition rather than using wubi later on but wondered if this was a commonly occuring problem?

The wireless card works as soon as the driver installs, however I am shown a "restart to activate driver" message and after restarting it's dead.

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom BCM4318 AirForceOne - 9.10 On Acer Aspire 5024wlmi?

Jan 16, 2010

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Acer 5024wlmi and followed this guide from Ubuntu community to enable my Broadcom AirForceOne BCM4318 wifi card. Now the wireless adapter is on (laptop front led also is on), I can see active wifi networks but connection fails (even with a simple ad-hoc open wifi network!). I tried with Network Manager/WICD/Wifi Radar and also using terminal lfconfig/lwconfig commands without success. It seems that my wifi card cannot ping access points: for example see this log from WICD connection session:

Ubuntu :: Acer Aspire 5100 Uses A Broadcom LAN - Install The Firmware

May 12, 2011

After loading Ubuntu 10.10 on an Acer Aspire 5100, I find that the onboard LAN does not work. My router "sees" the laptop but my laptop does not "see" the router. Ubuntu says that the firmware is not installed.

I read earlier posts about an issue with Broadcom and later editions of Ubuntu but I haven't seen a definitive fix. With the LAN not working, it is not possible to connect to the Internet and further compounds the problem. My understanding is that the Acer Aspire 5100 uses a Broadcom LAN. How can I install the firmware that it is asking for?

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Acer Aspire 7551G On 11.04?

May 15, 2011

I searched everything before posting this, and tried every solution, but so far no luck, i will post my info, and hope someone smarter then me can solve this? Wireless works fine in windows, but apears disabled in ubuntu lspci -nn

Code:

00:02.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 PCI to PCI bridge (ext gfx port 0) [1022:9603]
00:04.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 PCI to PCI bridge (PCIE port 0) [1022:9604]

00:11.0 SATA controller [0106]: ATI Technologies Inc SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 SATA Controller [AHCI mode] [1002:4391]

[Code]...

the laptop has no bluetooth chip, so i am not sure where "acer-bluetooth" is coming from. Also i am quite familar with linux, so no need to hold my hand, i am just not sure what to do next in this situation. (if this makes solving this easier)

PS: There is no 'hardware switch' on the laptop, but there is a Fn+F3 key combination which does nothing. network-manager shows on startup 'Enable wireless' with no check next to it, checking it 'Enables' it, but the wireless remains disabled.

Debian Hardware :: Broadcom Drivers For Acer Aspire 5102?

May 21, 2011

I have an Acer Aspire 5102 notebook computer with the infamous Broadcom 4318 chipset. In the past I have had to install FW cutter & proprietary drivers to get this chipset to work with Ubuntu. With the release of Ubuntu 10.10 Marverick Meercat I seem to remember the WiFi working immediately after installation; although I could be mistaken.

Will I have to go through similar gymnastics to get Debian to work on my system; or do you think it will work right away?

Fedora Hardware :: Acer Aspire 3820tg Wlan Broadcom BCM43225?

My laptop is the one mentioned in the title. And it's completely offline at the moment.

Seem to have some troublesome chips.
Code:

05:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43225 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)
code....

although in my case they should be for the 2.6.33.3-85.fc13.x86_64 kernel.

And I've been searching that repo for ages now, and I can't seem to find anything with kmod-wl or broadcom in there. I'm well aware that this is most likely because of my own ignorance as to the build up of said repo.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Does Not Work (Broadcom BCM4312)

Jul 28, 2010

I've just installed Ubuntu on 2 computers, and I'm new to it. However I'm not new to computers. The problem I'm currently running into on one of the computers is that the wireless will not detect any connections, despite there being many. The computer is a HP Compaq v6203AU using the wireless card Broadcom BCM4312 [14e4:4312]. I've went through dozens of walkthroughs, encountering errors in every single one of them, I've spent 8 hours on this one problem and extremely frustrated. It seem to be a problem with the driver that comes as default, and I'm lost at what to do.

The terminal command "lspci -nn | grep 14e4" returns the following:
03:00.0 Network Controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g [14e4:4312]

ifconfig returns the following:

The computer has no internet access as there is nowhere to connect except through wireless.

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom BCM4312 - 4315 - Activated But No Signal

Jun 16, 2010

I recently bought a Lenovo laptop which comes with a wireless card called Broadcom BCM4312 but in dmesg it says "bcm4315 hybrid wireless controller".

Jockey says the driver is installed, activated and in use. However I don't get any signal (I even moved the laptop to the same room the wireless router is).

I run iwevent and nothing appeared.

I run Kubuntu 10.04, fresh install from a USB stick, latest updates. I replaced knetworkmanager with the network-manager-gnome. network-manager-gnome works fine and I can connect to wired connection with no problem.

Network-manager-gnome says that the wireless is disconnected. What can be done to make the wireless work?

Ubuntu :: 10.4 - Network Disabled Broadcom 3418

Apr 24, 2010

I was away from Ubuntu for a long time - since the breezy badger days. Anyway I'm trying to get back, I tried installing 9.4, it failed miserably; both standard and alternative. 10.4 installed fine, but I'm having trouble with wirless. Long story short network is disabled. No wireless networks show up. B43 driver is installed and the pci wireless is communicating with Kernel. I would copy paste, but I have no access to internet on that computer. Also 'sudo apt=get' is not beneficial when you have no internet. I'm happy to transfer from packages.ubuntu though. Left clicking and disabling /reenabling has left me with device not ready, and a driver warning to get B43 driver. I had that already but I guess I'm going backwards now.

Fedora Hardware :: No Network In Acer Aspire One D250 After Kernel Update / Get That?

Mar 28, 2010

I just installed Fedora 12 x86 in an Acer Aspire One D250. Everything ran smoothly and was detected upon install but unfortunately after all updates were applied to it I ended with a device with no network connection (not even Ethernet).

This appears to be kernel-related because the old kernel (stock) works as expected. The problematic kernel version is (2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686).

Is there any known workaround for this? Or am I condemned to run this older kernel until the other one gets fixed?

Another question, in the event a new kernel comes out I'd like to keep to older one as a back up, how can I arrange that?

Ubuntu Networking :: Acer Aspire 1 533-13Dww LAN?

May 16, 2011

I've just installed Ubuntu 10.4 as a dual boot on my Acer Aspire 0ne 533. I have to keep the Windows partition for work, or I'd have just installed Ubuntu. I'm used to plugging in an ethernet cable for the first round of updates until I get the WiFi working, but it just isn't working for me this time. I have a horrid feeling that Windows has a way of hogging the Ethernet card.

I had a look in the forums, and could not find anything referring to this specifically, which is unusual because as far as I can tell the AA1 is a popular machine and lots of people dual boot it. Perhaps it is an easy fix that's been buried in the archives?
