I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 - 2.6.35-28-generic-pae i686 on a home build machine. The wireless has not been working for several months but I "duck taped" the problem by connecting my eee to my machine and using the internet that way. I'm finally getting to fixing the issue but I can't seem to figure out what the issue is. I think there might be a driver conflict because the wireless was detecting networks last night, but inconsistently - they would appear and then leave. Also, the green light on the wireless card does not work. Here is all the information I could provide:

I have had this configuration at home for years, but I just changed my line provider and I cannot get it to work.
I have a desktop machine with two ethernet interfaces, eth0 and eth1. Etho is connected to the cable modem and that seems to be working fine - well, I'm posting here, right? Eth1 is connected to a Linksys WAP54G wireless access point. I have eth1 set to 192.168.1.240 and the AP set to 192.168.1.245 (the default). The desktop runs CentOS and I have dhcpd running, and I have focused on the dhcpd.conf file, which I have changed many times. Here is the latest incarnation:

At home we have a small home network, but it is very slow. I believe it is, because some computers are placed in a workgroup, called WORKGROUP and others are placed in a domain called TUE. The domain is because many of the laptops at our house also have to work on our university, and I can't simply put them in a workgroup.
The reason why I believe it is slow because of this, is because file sharing between the computers in the workgroup goes with 5 MB/s. File sharing between a domain computer and a workgroup computer goes as fast as 160 KB/s. This is the upload speed of our internet here. How to make the connection with the domain computers the same speed as the workgroup computers? I can not simply put the domain computers out of their domain and in the workgroup (as explained before)

I am having trouble with my home network, from one computer to another both using wireless g (Ubuntu 10.04) what transfer rate should I expect/hope for when copying a file from one computer to another? My speed is consistently 220 KBps am I correct in assuming this is pretty bad?

I had 2 Ethernet ports and neither of them were working on a fresh build a friend was struggling with. After reading the suggestions to fix the issue and thinking that there had to be an easier way I had an epiphany. I would go to my spare parts box and bring out my old Netgear GA311 and pop it into the slot. So after searching for 10 minutes I found it and installed it. Booted up the rig and it found that right away (SWEET) now that's not the fix anybody can do that, once I updated Ubuntu the on-board ports started working (that's what I'm using now). I can't explain what the update did but for a few bucks a used card in the tool box might not be a bad idea!
Mother board is a Gigabyte GAX58A-UD5 Rev.1 Personally I'm an ASUS guy.

I just started having a problem with my 10.04 laptop a few days ago, maybe Thursday, last week. When the computer is plugged into my home network (standard 192.168.1.1 sort of IPs) it works fine, but when I try to connect to my work network (130.15.90.XX) I am unable to pick up an IP. The router in my office is working fine, all the windows boxes can connect.
I've also noticed that when the computer is plugged in at work the notification icon for the networking indicates it is looking for a wireless connection (rather than the normal up/down arrows), even if wireless is deactivated
I can set a static IP in /etc/network/interfaces and everything works, so it seems to be a DHCP problem?

I currently have a desktop PC (running 10.04) connected to the home hub (v2) via ethernet and everything works correctly. I want to change to wireless so I can move the home hub, I've tried several usb wireless adapters and always end up with the same issue. I can associate with the home hub it will hand out an ip address, answer dns queries and allow me to connect to its web setup page but not the internet (ping, web, etc). I also have a htpc (also 10.04) which is able to connect through the wireless correctly plus a laptop running XP.

I have wubi Kubuntu installed and had no problems with wireless at home. Starbucks uses the Bell network for free wireless access, and in Windows I can use it without problems. It is the typical free network, that immediately asks you for a login name when you try to use a web browser. When I do it in Ubuntu at Starbucks, it sees the network and "activates" it, but when I go to Firefox, it does not ask for the typical login information. It can't find any web pages at all.

For the past few months I've been using Ultimate Edition 2.3 on my laptop. Various problems I encountered convinced me to switch. I installed Ubuntu 9.10 today and after the install I can't pick up my wireless router on the list of available networks. I'm able to pick up every other one on my block, just not my own. My server and my roommates laptop can pick it up and are connected to it, the problem seems to be exclusive to this laptop with the fresh install on it.I tried the 'connect to hidden network' option and it doesn't connect, it just keeps asking for the psk

So I finally successfully installed Ubuntu 10.10, but I can't access my home wireless network. I dual booted with Windows 7, and it detects my local wireless network, asks for the key and connects correctly. In Ubuntu, I have to plug in an ethernet cable to access the internet (like I am now). Ubuntu doesn't detect the network, and I tried "Create New Wireless Network..." up the top right, but it doesn't connect.

I want to switch my laptop from XP to Ubuntu, but right now, i cant risk installing it. i dont want to have it partitioned so i can dual boot, so for now i only run the try-it-out mode.Before i consider installing though, i want to see if i can get everything to work ahead of time, that way im not regreting instalation. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. I have looked this up, and i have tried many things, and so far, none have worked.I was wondering if it was just part of the trial thing or not, but it is a Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 driver

When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.

For some reason, i just cannot get my wireless to work in xubuntu. When i click on the network-manager applet, it only has the wired network tab and VPN connections, there are NO wireless networks displayed. I have also tried iwconfig, which returned

At home I use ADSL and my machine has no problem to connect to wired network. But I still can not set up my wireless network. Network Manager scans for other networks in range and find few but my own network is not listed. My other machine (Windows 7 OS) does not have that problem. What could be the problem? Is it the encryption of the network? I've tried with Wicd also - no progress. Did anyone else have the same problem?

I have a netgear wireless system and it is problematic with Linux. I need to use a static IP or will loose connection. It is also problematic with an itouch and a kindle. I just bought my wife a kindle and need to get it to work. It there a way to run two home wireless systems from one Internet connection? I have a wireless router supplied by surewest but my wireless Cannon printer did not seem to like that.

I have just installed openSuse 11.4 KDE 64-bit on a Dell M1330. When I click on my networking panel, it says WLAN interface is unavailable. I've followed the steps in the stickied post and found the WLAN hardware info, a screenshot of which is below:Uploaded with ImageShack.usNext it says to do this - you need to look at the logs, in particular the info in /var/log/boot.msg. To see this, you need YaST => Miscellaneous => System Logs and select boot.msg.In YaST there is no such option for system logs under miscellaneous, so I can't do that. The results of the sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan command produce the following:

Am new, as of today to Fedora. I am unable to connect to my home wireless network. I have checked the security settings WPA PSK Personal TKIS, on the router. I have two windows PCs that are connected in this way.
The error message in Fedora 15 Network is Authentication required by wireless network. The details I have entered are correct, but no joy. Again, I am entirely new to Fedora

I love KDE4 now, but I still want KDE3, so I I want to build KDE3.5.10 and install it to my home directory, sort of like konstruct does, but the current version. I've built almost an entire KDE3 before, so I'm pretty sure it's doable, but what do I do different to point the installer at ~. If the answer is in the man page for make I couldn't see it.

The garage in my house is a dead spot for my current wifi router.I can't get a signal there.Moving my router within the limits of my cabling doesn't fix it. But I have two other routers I'm no longer using.Is it possible to use one of them as a wireless access point to extend the range of my current router?If so, what is the general procedure for doing that? My main router is a Verizon Actiontec M424WR. My other unused routers are a D-Link and a Netgear, both of which have wireless capability. The Netgear had a superior range, as I recall.

I have entered further into the networking world with this venture on my bellsouth dsl/linux/windows network.Installed ez-ipupdate. It seems to be working to update easydns servers with the exception of not telling the server the root host name and correct ip. Many calls to the easydns support people who stand on the ground that they go the distance with support (bullsh__). Linux? What is that something you eat aye?
I think I may have configured something wrong. Or they told me to do something that was wrong. It makes no difference I want to solve the problem. Running Linux version etch 2.6.28-6-686 on Pent 3. Lan consists of 2 vista desktops, one windows server 2008 R2 in workstation mode. Samba configured enough to see each other. Bind9 and Apache2 on Linux. Also have this damn Vontage voip phone connected to Lan and a wireless N router for laptop. Wireless DLink Dir 615 ver c router feeds linux box and has an incoming from dlink lan switch which is fed from DSL Westel.
Linux box with ddns client (ez-ipupdate) has recieved a fixed ip. Easydns needs root host name and ip.I don't understand why this is not working. I have been reading reading reading DNS info to understand or get more of a working concept as to how Linux handles this. I understand that the file "hosts" contains the host or root domain name. I have a strong insterest in seeing this through but am almost stuck other than wipe ez-ipupdate and install ddclient software which is touted to work better behind dsl routers. Wireless router not configed for port forwarding however it is configed for DDNS clients and of course ez- is getting through to update domain nameservers. On local host it works when I type in [URL] and calls apache2 default html page which says "It works."

Just upgraded to the newest version of Ubuntu(unity), and my wireless isn't working. I have the 14e4:4315 Wireless Card so I followed this posts [URL].... And still have no wifi, when I click the icon in the menu bar it says under "Wireless Networks": "wireless is disabled by hardware switch", which ins't true because on my Vostro 1520, there is only one switch and it is in the on position. I've tried 3 versions of ubuntu and none of them work with wifi getting tired of it.

In the wake of a spate of posts complaining that wireless is not working in 10.04 here is mine. I'm on a (relatively old) AMD Duron 1.5Ghz, 1.5G memory with a VIA KM-266 motherboard. Wireless worked fine in 9.10. With a fresh install of the new 10.04, the usb wireless adapter is not detected, the tab to add a new wireless connection is grayed out, starting the KNetworkManager (did I got the name right?) does nothing (that is, no application starts), etc.note: if you are wondering how I am accessing the internet, I just fired up the 9.10 live CD, which as you can imagine is not the most practical thing in the world.Here is the info.
