I just bought new components to build a new desktop .. it has a MSI A75MA-G55 motherboard but I can not find anyway to connect to a wireless network. I tried to google my problem and read all the manuals that came with my board but no were can I see if it has a wireless adapter build in or not.

1. Desktop running 10.10 (the one with the wireless card)
2. Server running 9.10 (no wireless card.. is currently connected through a wireless B gaming bridge)
3. An old P4 that I will be putting 9.10 on and running as a server.
Take the Desktop that has the working wireless card as my normal desktop and also running as a passthrough for the switch to go to the other two while still allowing all of the port forwarding to the other two to be handled by the router upstairs so basically what I want to do is this

Everything i've come across so far has been for going from a wired router to turn a box into a wireless AP unfortunately i need the reverse.. a wireless bridge. if someone can point me in the right direction (or i'm not against hand holding if it's available.
I just got Ubuntu and I feel like there is going to be a really simple solution but right now I cannot find any information on a solution. I run 9.10 desktop i386 or w/e and I have a wireless connection. The network does not show up when I go the network manager to select a network. No networks show up and all it lets me do is create a new network connection which I have no idea how to do. I think it might have to do with my device recognition, but the network is fine it is just Ubuntu.

I know some cards have trouble with their drivers or performance in Ubuntu so I was wondering if there's a way of finding the best brand and model to get so I know I won't have any problems with it on my Ubuntu installation. A webpage, a place where people post their cards and how good they perform or something like that which can help me get the easiest one to work with. The card would be installed via PCI and the room with the router is pretty much in front of this one.

how to go about getting Ubuntu to receive an ad-hoc wireless ICS enabled connection. The internet connection is shared through a virtual machine running XP (with the USB wireless dongle under XP's control), on my desktop PC, in order to escape my ISP's no NAT policy. Ubuntu is on both the desktop PC (the sender), and the laptop (the receiver). The desktop and laptop also run windows 7. I managed to get my laptop Ubuntu to connect to my virtual machine XP, by setting the IP, subnet and gateway of all wireless devices, as was suggested in [URL] - I did use the Network Manager GUI, but pinging the desktop doesn't work.
Even with the IP configuration, Windows 7 on the laptop receives the internet fine. The next step is getting Ubuntu to receive. I can do any kind of configuration in a virtual machine, such as install Ubuntu. In virtual machine XP I used 192.168.0.1 with subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 1.1.1.1. On the laptop Ubuntu 192.168.0.2 same everything else. I understand nothing about networks. I know there is stuff I can do in the console, but how will Network Manager cope with me doing that?
I have been trying to find a wireless card that will readily work with Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop. Preferably an +802.11 N with an indoor range of between 300 to 400 ft. with possibly two antennas. Am finding many that say linux on the box but find that it ain't so. Also most times with no instructions or very convoluted process that results in errors.

Now before I go out and spend money on a wireless usb thing, I was wondering if I could use my laptop (Ibm think pad T60 running ubuntu 10.10 dual boot with crunch bang) As a wireless access-point and connect via Ethernet cable the laptop to the desktop (Probably through a modem?) so I can use the Internet for games on the desktop computer. (Games that wont work in wine, sigh). Just a note though, 64 bit windows 7 will NOT run anything.

A friend who switched ISP's gave me his old Linksys WRT54-G wireless router. I went through the installation procedure and had a wireless connection up and running - smiley face. I had security set up for WPA, and decided to upgrade it to WPA2. Another smiley face. When I went to connect (had already done so successfully), I noticed it referred to my wireless as Linksys - I was expecting to see the SSID. So I started playing around in Network Manager and now I have things all effed up.
Don't know exactly what I did, but now I have no wireless. So I ran a few commands (lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig, and iwlist scan), and looking at the results I see what appear to be inconsistencies in the output. I've posted them below, and make the following observations:
1. Under the lshw it refers to my wireless connection logical name as wmaster0, and has the correct MAC address, etc.
2. Under the iwconfig it says, 'wmaster0 no wireless extensions', but then refers to wlan0 as the wireless connection (although it does not seem to be running).
3. Under ifconfig I see both a wlan0 and a wlan0:avahi. The wlan0 has no IP, the wlan0:avahi does, but it is incorrect.

I just upgraded to natty last night, and everything is working fine except for the network manager. I can enable and configure the wireless card via bash, but the network manager widget will not manage the wireless card.
When I first boot up, the "Enable wireless" check box is greyed out. After I enable the card via the terminal, the "Enable wireless" check box becomes ungreyed, but every time I click it, it instantly unchecks itself. I feel like Currly from the Three Stoogies. Check, uncheck, Check, uncheck.. "Slaps face repeatedly."
I have Packard Bell easynote tn36 and I used to use ubuntu 10.10 and then when I upgrad it to ubuntu 11.04 the wireless doesn't work (disable) and I can't press the botton of Enable wireless.

I have just bought me the MBR1000 Cradlepoint router and it works great with my Verizon USB 760 modem plugged in it. I can now send and receive email on my Ubuntu laptop. I like it.My Gentoo desktop computer is just sitting there with no Internet access because my Verizon modem is no longer plugged into it but plugged into the router instead. Only my laptop now has Internet access. The laptop has an integrated wireless card built in the MB but my desktop has no such capability.
Is there a way (besides buying a wi-fi adapter) to get Internet access on my desktop computer through networking so that the router would give both computers Internet access at the same? Virtualbox, is great, except that I have no wireless networking or USB support. Problem one, is USB support. As far as I know there is a personal free use version of Virtualbox that includes USB support, however I can't find this copy to download it. Any ideas where I can find it? Second problem, I have an integrated wireless networking card in my laptop, that Ubuntu recognizes with no problems, but Virtualbox can't even "see" the device. I found a tutorial that addresses this know issues with wireless and Virtualbox, but I don't understand the instructions

My mother has Windows Vista and i have linux ubuntu. She has a special verizon card that she inserts into her laptop for internet. My computer also has an internal wireless card, but the signal here is very poor. Supposedly, among windows computers, I would be able to get a flashdrive, and with a little program uploaded from my moms computer, set things up using the flashdrive on my computer to share the internet that she pays good money for =/ However, it wont work with ubuntu, which isnt in the windows inner circle. When I open the executable file with WINE it says that it cant run wireless network setup "on this version of windows". lawl. I was wondering, is there any way around that? Is there anyway to network with my mothers internet?

I probably was running a week or so before that without needing a reboot. Windows wireless is fine (I'm using it to send this post).In addition, my sound stopped working and I see a fleeting message to the effect that the sound system is reverting from analog to digital.I'm running Kubuntu 9.10. I have a compaq c784tu and it was shitty with xp. Vista is quite crap, so i turned over to ubuntu 10.4. The configuration of the laptop is: 1.73 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T2370 with 1-MB L2 Cache, 533 MHz FSB featuring Intel Mobile 945GML Express Chipset Motherboard, 2-GB PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM (Maximum 4-GB in 2 slots), a 160-GB SATA 5400 rpm Hard Disk Drive and 8x Super Multi Double Layer (8.5 GB) Slot-in DVD Writer.Everything worked like a charm and I was able to connect to the internet through a public wifi network. However, I came home this week to my mothers house, where they have a dsl-router to connect to the internet whih uses bridge mode pppoe. I tried to connect to the internet through it, and it initially couldnt. However, I got around that by doing a clean install of ubuntu. I was able to then connect to the internet using "sudo pppoeconf" and "sudo pon dsl-provider"One night the network manager app on the top left disappeared and would not come on. I figured I had fried my wifi adapter, however, lspci -v confirmed its presence.Further, "system>admn>system testing" detected the adapter aswell. I tried the iwconfig command in the terminal the result was:
lo no wireless extensions
eth0 no wireless extensions
wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSIDff/any

My wireless can connect to my router without a problem, but in order to do so (after boot) I must first disable networking in the Notification Area and then re-enable it. I don't mind it too much, but when other people use my computer, it's made painfully obvious to me, that this was never an issue with Windows 7 (as much as I despise MS).
