I am running K/Ubuntu 9.10 with an HTC Hero (CDMA) running Android 1.6.
I would like to be able to stream media from my PC to my phone. Much like what gMote does but you can play it on your phone and not just navigate.
Also, does anyone know a good way to upgrade my HTC Hero (CDMA) to 2.1?
I installed/updated my flash media drivers because i had poor quality video in fullscreen. now fullscreen looks great on ..... and other streaming sites. the only problem is that everytime i attempt to stream from hulu, i get "sorry, we are unable to stream this video. please check your internet connection and try again."
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty sure this has been asked before, and I'm not even sure I'm in the right thread,*ahem* I am trying to stream media (or at least music) from my openSUSE 11.2 library, either from Amarok or a specialized program. The problem is, I only have one computer and it's upstairs, the Xbox is in the basement. So, it needs to be wireless. Not sure where I saw it, but there was a guide for doing it with Ubuntu, a spare computer, and an Ethernet cable. As you can see, however, there are 3 fatal flaws to this method in my case.
I used to use TwonkyMedia Server, but that was a trial, and I refuse to pay for any service that should be as simple as Pie (no, not Pi. That's not quite as simple).
I have Fedora 11 and I cannot play a windows media stream in Firefox. E.g. http://www.rogersplus.ca/movie.asp?mid=35147# from this site I cannot view trailers in Windows Media Format but I can using Real Player. When I select Windows Media Stream, all I see is a black window in place of video.
I have installed following plugins in Firefox, DivX Browser Plug-in (Geko Media Player 0.9.8), MozPlugger 1.12.1, gecko-mediaplayer 0.9.8, VLC Multimedia Plug-in 1.0.3.
Recently, my fraternity decided to use our LAN to stream media to our various bars, lounges and ballroom. Some of our playback devices, including an iPhone and a laptop, broke during a party, which is why we decided to have portable devices replaced with sturdy, interchangable and fixed hardware.
As this is going to cost some money and effort, we had better make a fully thought-through plan, which I am in charge of. Still, having never organized a project of any measurable magnitude, I would rather have this plan commented on here.
So far, I am planning to buy one central PC (2GHz, 512 MB RAM) acting as a server, and four identical PCs (1GHz, 256 MB RAM) acting as clients. The former would a) provide local files, stored an an external encrypted hard drive, and b) act as a NFS and SMB client to private systems in the same LAN to incorporate (and forward) data stored on those (as to provide one central point to change the configuration for their use). Futhermore, it would host /etc, /usr and /home of the individual clients to provide that at all times, the same software and drivers are used on all of them. The clients then would mount /etc, /usr and /home from the server, alongside with the both the directories on its external HDD and the ones it had itself mounted from other PCs. Each of them would have to be able to play back music, video files and terrestrial TV from a USB stick, with at most two of them doing so at a time.
Is this a realistic scenario? I so, would you have any recommendations for changes and could you point out pitfalls? The whole lot would have to be rather secure, as usually, there are lots of people coming and going, and we don't want our private data corrupted. If not, where did I go wrong? How would you yourself build a system like that?
And last, what software would you use? Is there a window manager which would be able to act solely as a means to display the three icons needed for TV, video, and music, and make it impossible to tamper with the system? And what programs would you use for playback to ensure maximum performance?
P.S.: Not that I'd suspect so, but is there a german lawyer present? Provided the individual files we play are in our legal posession, this is a legal scenario, isn't it? There would only be friends and other frats present at any public display.
I'm using CentOS 5.5 as a media server to stream media content over my local network. Currently i'm having problem while installing last.fm scrobbler.

So it tells me that I need libcurl.so.4, but I couldn't find any suitable rpm binaries for it. The only rpm that i found was for Suse and Mandrake. How to set this up, so that i can get a fully functional media server.
setup a media server in Linux which streams video over the internet? Is it easy to do this? I want a server that will actually encode video in real time to allow it to stream over sometimes slow or unreliable networks. Basically, I want a server that works on the internet. I have a directory with a bunch of video files, and want to make this accessible to myself remotely. For other situations, I found great and useful software (such as the PS3 media server). I'd like to find something equally as useful for streaming video over the internet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a torrentbox. The special thing about this torrent box is that it's custom built, it has Windows 7 installed and I have full control over it using TightVNC. At the moment I'm using uTorrent WebUI and FTP do download the files. But I'm thinking - When I download a 1,5 hour long video in 30 minutes, wouldn't it be theoretically possible to just WATCH the movie directly from the torrentbox? Obviously this can't be dont using FTP since it makes you download the entire file, BUT:
Is there some other way to fool your OS into thinking that this is a local folder, and get media players like VLC or GOM player to play video files directly? This would be a monumental time- and space saver for me.(I have both Windows and Linux Mint on my PCs)
I am trying to stream my music and videos to my xbox 360 from ubuntu 10.10, and I have set up ushare to do that. Ushare seems to be workign correctly, it starts up and the xbox recognises the share from the media menu, but there is no videos or music! For some reason ushare doesnt find any media in the folders I specified, and I double checked and the paths look correct to me. This is the error I get in the terminal:

It seems I might be having an issue that's a non-issue. I am not able to stream/ connect to a stream using vlc.I've looked at a few walk-throughs; I follow the steps and as often as not I get no error messages but cannot connect to a stream.

But my internet connection supports only a maximum upload bandwidth of 400 kbps.So I thought I will get one more connection and use the combined upload b/w of 800 kbps to stream the video. I hope there should be a way to split the stream across two interface and merge them together at the remote endpoint. All this has to be done at real time.

I often use VNC to control the Mac, so I don't have to get up to change which iTunes playlist I'm listening to, or play a movie, or whatever.I would like to be able to do something similar with the audio.Here's my problem. Sometimes it's really hard to get the volume just right when I'm at the far end of the room. If I increase the volume to a level where I can hear everything, it sometimes annoys the neighbours.
So, is there a way I can stream all the audio from the MacMini so I can listen to it using a Linux laptop at the far end of the living room without annoying the neighbours?Because I want to set this up for watching movies, it needs to be fast enough to stay in sync with the picture.(It might just be easier to run some speaker wire across the room, but I like to try to do things the hard way first. After setting wpa security with my password, the wifi network worked for many weeks. However, in the last few days it does not connect no more. I have tried to reinstall SSID. Since then I cant connect to the internet anymore. I can see all the wireless networks around me but when I attempt to connect to my home network it keeps asking me for the password. i didn't install anything before or after the updates. I am sure there was something on the updates that screwed my system.

Trying to stream a live video feed from Rock am Ring which is available via the German SWR3 TV website. Trouble is, I am in the UK and it seems to only be avaialable to German IP addresses. Have tried various German web proxies, but to no avail. I suspect the service provider knows about them all and is stopping them also. Getting the error from the server, Server Error The connection to the streaming server has been disconnected. Any networking gurus out there who may know a way around this.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using UBUNTU 9.04 on a HP mini notebook. I pratically never had problem connecting wireless with my netbook, expecially with this connection at home. Until yesterday. There were some line problems, that have been solved after some hours. Then I was able again to connect.
I didnt do nothing on the netbook. After 2 hours, connection gone. Now, even if other laptops are wonderfully connected (to the same line), mine has a dramatically slow connection (in the sense that is able to open just the first page of google if I am lucky) or no connection at all (even if the signal looks good on the network panel.
I tryed the help for wireless troubleshooting, checked for device recognition. Putting in terminal sudo lshw -C network Says disabled. But the device of the wireless on my pc is on, and it's also enabled in its panel.
my wireless was working well in ubuntu. now it won't detect networks anymore. the output of iwconfig is no wireless extensions
View 7 Replies View RelatedOne problem has led to another.. I had notebook version 9.10 and it worked OK. I Downloaded 10.04 onto USB and all seemed fine. After upgrade - disaster. I have as Asus Eee PC901.
1. I am in Italy and bought a TIM USB mobile broadband modem - Ubuntu can see the device but nothing happens except a bizzare message with no information at all 'Unable to Open Archive'. I have no idea what that meant nor what I should do to resolve whatever it is, so I went back to my older USB modem which worked under 9.10 - Now even that device does nothing.
2. as a result, Ubuntu software centre does not work, Synaptic Package manager is the same; also update manager.
3. Limited communications are available via the university wireless network. That network requires me to work through their own proxy;port address (with username and password) which I have set up using proxy manager including the username and password. This allows me to carry out web surfing and point to point downloads.
4. Firefox works fine, and it obeys the requirements for registering with the proxy. Thunderbird, evolution, Synaptic, Update manager, Software centre etc all fail because they failed to authenticate with the proxy. They all have been set up to use system proxy. (Also tried direct proxy address;port in each package but no go)
5. The ultimate frustration has come from the direct download of Skype (.deb). Double click and it starts to install then crashes because of numerous dependencies (things like libqtgui4).
Since I installed FC11 vpnc stop working. I get "vpnc: no response from target." I tried running it with "strace" and the reason is a timeout: poll([{fd=3, events=POLLIN}], 1, 4000) = 0 (Timeout)
I tried google and adding "NAT Traversal Mode cisco-udp" to the config file works for some people but not for me Does anyone had experience with vpnc 0.5.3 in FC11?
I already had solved the problem [URL].. but after several yum updates it has appeared again. Within the script "/etc/ppp/ip-up" the sixth parameter isn't provided. But the sixth parameter should be "ppp0" (in this case). The script sets it into the variable $LOGDEVICE and passes it as first parameter to annother script. Successfully I had patched "/etc/ppp/ip-up". I would like to report a bug but I'm not sure if it is a wvdial or a ppp/pppd or a Fedora 14 bug.
Now (after several yum patch updates) my patched /etc/ppp/ip-up doesn't help anymore. The registration at the mobile phone provider seems to be ok but the internet connection isn't initialized.
According the man pages wvdial starts ppp or pppd and one of them seems to call /etc/ppp/ip-up. At which point in the subprocessed scripts (under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/) I didn't find out yet.
My intel pro wireless 2200 NIC doesn't work anymore. Yesterday it did, but not today (I didn't do anything special, so that it could go wrong).What is ucode and -62? Any ideas? I already checked the forums and found that ipw doesn't work when ndiswrapper is loaded. Well, I don't have it loaded. What happend?
