View 8 Replies View RelatedJust made the jump to Ubuntu, and until this install I considered myself very tech savvy. Now not so much! Built my new desktop, loaded Ubuntu 64 bit no problem. But I'm having a terrible time figuring out how to load the native driver for my realtek wireless adapter. I successfully un-tarred the file, and used the terminal to run the make command by using cd command to navigate to the file. It returned a wall of text, and in my mind looked to work. Next I go to run "./clean" in the same file location in the terminal and it returns:
"ERROR: Module r8192s_usb does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_rsl does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_ccmp does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_tkip does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt_wep does not exist in /proc/modules
ERROR: Module ieee80211_crypt does not exist in /proc/modules
Not completely sure if this is an issue, I try moving to the next step of instructions issuing the command "insmod 8712u.ko" in the terminal same file location and get the error message
insmod: error inserting '8712u.ko': -1 Operation not permitted
I've tried running "sudo insmod 8712u.ko" from both that file directory, and from my home file directory. My guess is I'm missing a step or need to be typing these commands in a different file directory in the terminal.
When I first turn it on to the desktop, it automatically connects and disconnects automatically 5 times then sometimes it would disconnect a few times randomly out of the blue.
This ia an external single usb wireless adapter you plug in the usb port on my desktop tower.
I am currently running openSUSE 11.4 on my Toshiba A505 laptop. I'm not certain about the exact model number of the wireless adapter but I believe it's made by Realtek. It does not show up in my list of network connections in YaST so I assume I'll need a driver for it.

I have a Belkin Enhanced Wireless USB Network Adapter Model # F6D4050 v2. The drivers are for windows but the windows wireless drivers app doesnt work. I see a tutorial for a linksys that appears to have the same chipset, but I am not sure if any of the steps need to be modified, also my kernel is a bit different. Here is my kernel:

So I bought a new wireless pci-e adapter today that has a realtek 8192CE chipset. I checked before I bought it and it is supported in the kernel since 2.6.38. Just to be safe I used the kernel-huge-2.6.39-rc4 config file from testing just to get it to work. All the kernel modules are loaded correctly and it is recognized by iwconfig, however wicd acts as if there is no wireless card in the system. I checked dmesg and saw this error.

So I googled around and didn't find much except for somethings about needing firmware. I did make firmware_install but for some reason there is no rtlwifi/rtl8192cfw.bin file. As a test I found an RPM that had the bin file I needed. I converted it to a tgz and ran explodepkg on it to extract the one file I needed. I made a directory /lib/firmware/rtlwifi and dropped the .bin file in and wicd immediately found my networks. So I guess it is a missing firmware issue, however I am currently not able to obtain and ip address. Why did the kernel not build the firmware I need, or is that something I have to download and build separately?
I love ubuntu, but I don't know how to use a command line to save my life. I'd just as soon never use a terminal ever. My big issue is I cannot get my wireless adapter to work. It is a keebox w150nu, which is based off the Ralink RT3070 chip. I am willing to use command line to get this thing to work because I love ubuntu to death, but everything I have tried has failed. I have gone to the Ralink website and downloaded the Tar.bz file from there. t

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 (and eventually upgraded to 10.10) on a 6+ year old Gateway Laptop. When I booted Ubuntu up after installing it, I was rather surprised to discover that the wireless card didn't work. I am almost certain that the wireless card is a Broadcom BCM4306, but I am unable to determine what revision it is, if at all. When I look at the network connections widget, it says that the wireless card is not ready, and iwconfig (I think) says that it's disabled.
It's not a problem with the laptop itself, because I was able to get a Linksys usb wireless adapter to work just fine on it, although it was SLOW (about 90 kbs). I am trying to fix this on a FRESH installation of Xubuntu 10.04 with the default packages on it, nothing more. Now, I was able to get the wireless working ONCE on ubuntu, using fwcutter I think, but it went away upon reboot. One last thing, I am running the 32 bit Xubuntu 10.04 on what I think is a 64 bit machine (I think it ran x64 Ubuntu 10.04 before I ditched it), so how to figure out if it is 64 bit.
i can't get my wg111t netgear wireless adapter to work. I followed the help thing by installing ndisgtk, which installed successfully. I was able to load up the file on the cd that also the help page said. The problem is that the computer won't load up the adapter as it would load up my cd's and flash drive. Here's how i installed ndisgtk. I installed the files ndiswrapper_common, ndiswrapper_1.9, and then the ndisgtk_0.8.5.All of these were for i386.

With my "Windows-centric" mind, there are a million things that I still don't get, but I must say the community and forums look quite impressive and easy to access (kudos! ). I am testing this today!My current problem is with the wireless adapter. I have a Belkin N Wireless USB adapter (FSD8053v3) and Belkin, of course, doesn't make linux drivers. When I installed Ubuntu, it recognized it automatically and I could connect to my network, but navigation was very slow so I tried to install Belkin windows drivers using ndiswrapper. It worked immediately, and navigation was very fast. However after a reboot, I lost the connection, I can't even see any of the neighbouring networks.

My update manager is showing that I am up to date and Additional Drivers is showing that the Broadcom STA wireless driver is installed and in use.

I have Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bits) and a wireless usb adaptor Alfa Network AWUS036H with Chipset Realtek 8187L. After a few minutes connected, the adaptor disconnects and I can't reconnect again. I search this forum but I'm not sure about what to do. Do I need to get and install another driver? I need to use the windows driver?

After I put the system to sleep in win7, it was unable to start the ethternet adapter back (Now after system boot, the lights around the ethernet port blink for a few times and then turn off. It works under Windows once I enable file & printer sharing.I tried to connect directly to the D-Link router using its IP4 address. I received the message the site could not be found. I used network manager (I think. I'm new to wireless ubuntu networking) and manually set the computer's IP4, Gateway, and netmask addresses. Nothing. I connect the ethernet patch cable and I'm in. Network Manager show the wireless network, set as automatic log in, as never used even tho I've connected to it manually several times. The router is in multi-mode - b, g, & n.
I'd show the output from sudo ifconfig -a, and sudo lsmod | grep rt but I keep getting this error message: " 1. You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more."Windows shows the adapter as rt2780 but here you can see it's claiming rt3070. The wireless icon shows it's getting a signal and I can connect to the local network, or so it seems. I'm running it thru a D-Link DIR-628 router. Is there something else I'm missing?
So I recently installed Slackware 13.1 and now want to get my D-Link DWA-140 to work with it. However I'm quite an amateur at Linux and can't seem to figure out how to. After following many different how-tos and tutorials this is where I am: I got 2010_0709_RT2870_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.1 (supposedly USB driver)package and rt2870.bin (supposedly firmware) in my root catalog. What I have already done with them:
make & make install in 2010_0709~
blacklisting modules 2x00usb, 2x00lib, 2800usb
modprobe rt2870sta
copying rt2870.bin to /lib/firmware
Regardless of everything, my adapter still is not active.. and how can I make the OS load the module at startup?
My wireless adapter connects to my WPA2 network perfectly, but when I run firefox it says it can't load the webpage, no matter what page I go to. Also, downloading new software doesn't work either. Any ideas please?

I installed CentOS 5.3 Final on a machine today and was having some problems with the NIC. When I installed CentOs the NIC would not work, I looked in the network configuration and saw that neither of my two NICS had IRQ's so I arbitrarily gave them some and they both worked fine. I then ran yum -update, installed updates and rebooted my machine. Again, the NICs stopped working, only this time setting the IRQ did nothing.
