I can't get this video to play in Chromium or Firefox when using Ubuntu. I logged into Windows XP and the video plays fine. Back to Ubuntu and I can't get it to play. all are Plugins Enabled (e.g., Flash).
When i got to a site such as You Tube of South Park Studios the vidio playes fine but the pause, play , fullscreen ect... Buttons dont work unless it click on them multiple times!
are there any known issues/fixes you guys are aware of in ubuntu 9.10 for issues regarding videos and/or flash videos and games. i have yet to be able to make a flash game work....my gf wanted to play farmville on facebook with no luck and i just tried to watch a video on ..... and ultimately hadto restart my machine.
I am new to Ubuntu. I have moved on from Windows and I find Ubuntu really cool. Have been checking out free softwares and I got this VLC player to play videos on my Ubuntu. But when In try to play online .wmv files, it says The Plugin is Missing! I usually watch TV online but its not working. How can I get it working, I'd like to have an easy solution to this so that I don't mess up with Ubuntu.
Anyone else struggling to play iplayer video? I've got the proprietary Flash plugin, which means it's probably not this "SWF Authentication" thing that there's been so much talk about.
I've rebooted, tried all sorts of tinkering, it loads the applet (I can see that Flash is loading OK because other things work, and right clicking on the applet gives the Flash menu)
I just installed ETQW 1.5 (Linux version), the game installed fine but strangely enough the 'Play Online' button is grayed out and therefor I can't play online. Anyone else who encountered this problem? Is there a solution?

running kubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, and my sound settings -at first glance- seem to be in order... a strange thing is occurring, is my machine haunted? my sound works when:
a. the machine boots up b. files are played in dragon player c. the machine shuts down
my sound does not work when:
1. i try to play streaming flash videos online (e.g. videos videos show the image but no sound will play) 2. the same goes for vlc media player: images yes, sound no. 3. i use skype *edit: additional problem*
i made no changes, that i know of, to my machine before this started happening. one day everything was working fine and i turned off my machine to go to sleep. the next day, i turn on my machine, and surprise, the sound doesn't work in some instances.
I'm using Ubuntu 64bit 10.04 with FireFox and every video I've tried online has worked except the bp.com's oil gusher video streams. Does any one know what plugins to install to make this work?
This happens nearly anytime I watch any relatively lengthy flash video on ..... or other online flash players. I watch the video, and the audio is fine for a few seconds, but then the audio cuts off as the video continues to play. Sometimes, when I move the scrollbar of the screen/pause and replay the movie, it starts back up again for a few seconds then shuts off or plays the audio I just heard.
I am using ubuntu 10.10 on Dell Inspiron 1525 dual boot with vista. My concern is streaming online videos through websites such as BBC iplayer, sky news, ....., NDTV news channel, etc. Videos are streaming perfectly fine as long as they are not running on full screen but if I try to run them on full screen video freezes (after a few minutes, say 5). Interestingly, sound does not stop. I can still hear the latest news updates but the video does not correspond. Same videos are running fine whether full screen or not in vista.
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 and I've been having problems with flash player. The problem occurs when I'm trying to play a video clip on You Tube or on similar sites. Video clips do not play properly, videos run slowly and with many interruptions, while on the other hand the sound is excellent and my internet connection is OK, only the quality of the video is poor. I am using: intel celeron 1800MHz 512 SD ram ATI Radeon 9550 Hardware Drivers displays no drivers for my graphic card...
family member's PC, and ever since the upgrade to 9.10, no video files play.
All formats (AVI, MPG, MP4) do not work. When attempting to use MPlayer, VLC, Kaffine and KMPlayer. The file opens, then the program immediately closes.
Another issue is that online video's are very jerky. Before the upgrade, all of these issues did not exist.
Any thoughts or idea's on where to look? I have already tried re-installing the codec's via the restricted extra's package, and by re-installing VLC.
I have plenty .MP4 video format files. The thing is, all this video , did not play well in any media/video player such as VLC,SMplayer, even the default movie player for ubuntu. by the way , Im using ubuntu 11.04 with Gnome3
I'm an excited newcomer in ubuntu and i'm also an animator. and i have problem playing all streaming video from this particular website (the 11 second club), probably they use quicktime plugin or something. In addition, we can play the stream frame by frame so we can check the animation more details on poses.
could you guys help me out with this...? this website is an important learning centre for me, and definitely for many animators out there who use ubuntu.
i tried to play any kind of video, it doesn't matter what it is and when i double click it to play, the program acts like it's loading it and then disappears. it doesn't matter what program it is, it does the same thing. i'm using ubuntu 9.10. is their anything i can do about that?
Ubuntu 10.04 - Firefox 3.6.8 I have all the packages installed that I need because every other video I try plays fine. The one that won't work for me is on a friends site - I'm pretty sure it's embeded ( whatever that means ). When I try to play it, I get audio, but no video. If I click where it says Vimeo on the lower right side it plays from there. I do know that it plays "as is" in Windows. Just wondering what's going on. Here it is to take a look at - [URL]

Vlc is no more able to play video. The video interface of vlc is transparent as you can see from the screenshot. The major change I made recently updation of Cair-dock to version 2.1.3-2 from ppa. VLC version is 1.0.3.
I like to play videos from my laptop on my tv in my bedroom using an hdmi cable. I used it in windows all the time. I have gotten Ubuntu configured to play the video and sound but I cant figure out a way to keep playing when I close the lid. Every time I do that it goes black. Also when I re-open it the laptop display is blank as well and will not come back on.
Under the power option when lid closed all it offers is
I just upgraded from the last LTS version to 10.04 Lucid Linux and Flash just totally sucks. I keep trying to watch videos at [URL] and the videos play for about 1 minutes then it locks up and gives me this error: "Unable to play the video specified:
rtmp:1935//streaming.ted.com/talks/dynamic/MichaelPollan_2007-high"I have followed all of suggestions in the "Comprehensive Multimedia & Video Howto" by ubuntu-freak and I'm still having major problems with Flash videos.
When I insert a movie DVD into the drive, the disk is read, a window pops up asking what software do I want to use (Open Movie Player is the default). I click use Open Movie Player and get "An error occurred could not read from resource" dialog - and the movie does not play. The file manager reads the disk without any problem, so don't think it's a bad disk (and it plays in my WinXP machine). I checked in Synaptic and it appears that Totem and all the stuff that needs to be installed with Totem is there. Is there another player or some front end for totem that I don't have? In that initial screen asking for software choice, totem is not an optio n.I've looked around in Medibuntu and it looks like all the needed files are already installed. Is there a different DVD player that needs to be installed?
Just recently converted and I'm running both Ubuntu 11.04 (the Natty Narwhal?) (about 10 gig partitioned) and Windows Vista.
As said in the title, All DVD's and Video files won't play well: DVD's are pixelated most times, jumpy and sometimes the sound is scratchy - sound usually sorts itself out in a minute or so, but not always and similarly with any video files, like MP4s and other ripped files. I usually use VLC but others also don't work well or not at all. When playing MP4's do work it usually freezes the rest of the computer and I have to force switch off by the main switch as nothing works.
I've tried out tips like the following from users with previous problems on Ubuntu forums but still nothing seems to work: I've installed libdvdcss2 and the latest vlc. I've uninstalled all my players and reinstalled them.
I don't believe it's a restricted format problem as the DVD drive works fine in vista as does all the video files.
I wondered if perhaps my system specs aren't good enough for Ubuntu: intel(r) celeron(r) d cpu 220@1.2ghz 1.5ghz 2 gigs ram 32 bit operating system I drew this while on vista - when I tried to check my system specs using these commands on Ubuntu the "commands were not found": sudo ishw -html > mySpecs.html and sudo 1shw
I'm hoping someone may be able to help me; I have done a complete new install of Mythbuntu 11.04 on an IBM T400, only OS on a formatted drive.
I have not changed any settings on the Backend, only loaded a few Music, Photos & Videos to the /var/lib/mythtv/music & pictures & video directories.
Photos & music functionality is 100%
The problem I'm having is with the "Watch Video" option; the test videos I have loaded to /var/lib/mythtv/videos directory, show up in the Watch Video section, all the information on each movie is displayed (looks great), it gives me the option to "Play" the video, but when I select play, nothing happens.
If I close the "Frontend" and open the same movies with VLC the work perfectly
I want to retain Banshee on my system. However, whenever I buy a CD that also contains video, it will not play the music or video. When I try to listen to the music, it simply puts a red cross against each track. Since combining video and music is VERY common, this means I have a whole host of CDs that will not play. MS media player and VLC have no problems with these, so how can I make Banshee play them?
