So i just got a sansa fuze and it works great with ubuntu lucid. the fuze however only plays mp4 videos. i have a video thats in avi and im trying to convert it to mp4 and came across fuzemux in the software center which is supposed to do just that. my problem is that is says in synaptic and the software center that its installed. but its nowhere to be found.

i've had ubuntu 10.04 for almost 2 months and when i first installed all the media codecs and used chromium everything worked fine and I was able to watch videos on [URL] but for past 2 weeks I haven't...there's been no change to my files, justed updated Chromium. I can view .mov video's in the media players or if I have the direct address but not embedded.

I'm having some sound problems, but they are very strange.First sound worked fine out of the box, played a DVD fine, flash video, fine. So I figured I'd figure it out later and went to go do something else. Later in the day I opened a flash game, and THERE WAS SOUND. Weird. Opened a DVD, sound. Flash video,sound.Yay! It fixed itself!Later on, I go to play another flash video (after not using anything with sound at all for a bit) and I don't get any sound again! Opened DVD,no soundBut I opened a song and I have sound there still. Kubuntu still plays a sound when loading KDE and emptying the recycle bin.It hasn't moved itself from the no sound stage again yet. I installed about 24 hours ago.

I've been playing around with the latest RC of 11.4. Overall, it works great, but just have 1 issue. No flash videos have audio. Video works just fine. I've tried installing both the flash-player package so that it loads the official 32-bit plugin through ndiswrapper, and tried downloading the Adobe Square 64-bit plugin and installing it. Doesn't make a difference, either way I have working video but not audio. Audio itself on the laptop works with no issues, I listen to Amarok all the time on it. Laptop in question is a Dell Latitude E5500. I've also had Debian Wheezy and Kubuntu 10.10 on here, both had no issues.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a home movie that is currently in Video_TS format (.bup/.vob files). I burned the movie using K3b and it works awesome in both Ubuntu and on my DVD player with the television. BUT the thing will not play in XP! I understand this is because XP is the work of the devil, but that is not important. The disc shows 4Gb used (in XP) but only gives the title. I even made sure hidden files were visible, just in case somehow the movie was invisible. I have tried burning my DVD directly from the video_ts files in K3b, and first making an .iso file, then going over to XP to burn the DVD using Nero...annnnnd same thing. I can watch them on the TV and 'buntu but not XP.
What have I done wrong? Advice? Need more info? invariably someone wants to ask the irrelevant question "Why do you need to watch it in Windows?"
I just started with kubuntu 10.04 and first of all let me say I love it! I came from debian lenny with kde so a lot of it is similar. There is one problem: my microphone plays through my computer speakers but I can't record it or use skype with it (I mainly want to use skype). So first question is how do I stop it playing through the speakers and how do I use it with skype?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn Hardy Heron, after installing xine and the usual stuff, and setting xine as the default dvd player in /etc/gnome/defaults.list in the usual way, and also linking /dev/dvd to /dev/dvd2, when I pop in a commercial dvd for autoplay, or select xine from the context menu to play it, it starts to play fine, but also produces the "source can't be read" messagebox, which goes away after being OK-clicked 10 (exactly!!) times.Launching xine directly from the application menu does not produce this problem.
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen i play a song in banshee, or a videos video, i get no sound at all. however, in banshee 1 3 minute song will appear to play in about 20 seconds (the progress bar speeds along), and videos videos play back in ultra-fast motion with no sound. weirdly, when i go to system settings -> multimedia, and click test on the default sound device, the kde login sound plays back fine. this worked when i first installed; does anyone know what's going on here? i think it may be a problem with gstreamer?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an odd problem with a copied DVD. I started with a commercial DVD and created an ISO file. The ISO file plays perfectly with VLC. I take the ISO file and burn it to a DVD+RDL without error. The burned DVD will not properly play on my computer or DVD player. It loads, but the menu is jerky and full of video block artifacts. The menu does not function properly. I tried this more than once with different software, including going directly to the DVD. I am using a drive that worked before, with the same stack of DVD+Rs that I used before.
Here is where it gets interesting: I can take the non-working burned DVD and copy it to a new ISO file. The new ISO file works fine with VLC. Obviously the data is getting properly copied from the source DVD, and it must be good on the burned DVD, but it won't play properly.

I'm trying to write a small script that I can have another program run automatically.
All I want the script to do is play a short .wav file on the system speaker just as it does when I mouse over it.
I Used Mplayer on my old system but I reloaded with 8.10 and I don't want to upgrade because I'm running zoneminder and the version I like is not in the repos for the latest versions of Ubuntu. And The repo is dead for 8.10 so I cant easily install mplayer.
My vlc player does not show video of a movie but plays audio of that file crystal clear !! See the attached screenshot!!

I've tried walking myself through all the sound help threads, but I am not having any luck. Sound was fine a few days ago. But now I get nothing. I uninstalled and then reinstalled both alsa and pulseaudio... and their respective mixers bounce around like they recognize sound is being made, but nothing comes out of the speakers. sound does work in windows so the speakers aren't blown. nothing is muted to my knowledge... alsa and pulse mixers are not on mute. output is set to Internal Audio and not HDMI stereo, though I never know which profile to be using.. i've pretty much tried them all to no avail. results of aplay -l

My partner is a teacher and has downloaded some videos from a teacher's resource site but can't seem to play them in Ubuntu. They play fine in Windows XP using Windows Media Player but they only play a few seconds in VLC or Totem and then freeze. The files in question seem to be normal MPG (MPEG-1) video files but somehow VLC and Totem choke on them. I have installed all restricted video formats including w32codecs but still no joy. My partner is threatening to go back to Windows!
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was setting up my Totem Movie Player on Ubuntu 9.10 and at first it wouldn't play dvds at all. So, I went online and entered these two commands into the terminal to play restricted dvds.
sudo apt-get install libdvdread4
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh
DVDs will now play on Totem, but now I don't have any video. I can hear sound and if click around the screen I can get it to play but I still don't have any video. I also tried both dvd drives on my computer and tried different DVDs. Still same thing.
I recently switched my usb external soundcard from an M-Audio Fast Track Pro to an Edirol UA-25EX (i can get 24bit working on it - that's why). After making the switch, all audio programs are working just fine except for Audacious. When i try to play audio, i get 00:00 and no playing. The output plugin is ALSA and the audio device is UA-25EX. I don't understand why it's not playing the audio.
View 4 Replies View Relatedso yeah i've seen threads on getting flash installed, and it appears to be installed. videos videos play and all that jazz. you got to adobe's webpage and it says i have the latest released version installed.
problem is i can't click on any of the buttons in the videos. like in ..... i can't click pause, change the video resolution, or move the bar to fast forward or rewind. i'm kind of at a loss cause it is installed, and reinstalling doesn't do anything in ff. i mean if i uninstall videos don't play, and if i reinstall they play. still can't click on anything though. edit:also it does work just in ..... if i get the new interface. it won't work in the old interface.

I'm on Kubuntu 9.10, using Totem to play .wmv files, and certain of them cause the player to search for an audio codec (wmap?) that is never found. The video played without audio after that. So I followed advice to remove ~/.gstreamer-0.10, and reboot. A new .gstreamer-0.10 directory appeared, but now, Totem will not even play the video. It recognizes the audio codec however. The video codec shows up as "Windows Media..." but resolution is 0 x 0, and nothing ever appears in the window. I tried uninstalling and re-installing w32codecs and non-free-codecs, and removing the registry files under ~/gstreamer-0.10 and using gst-inspect to rebuild the database,
but nothing helps.
When I try to play a divx movie online using firefox (my system is ubuntu 8.04) the movie plays but there is no sound.

I tyred to to go threw the player and see if I changed the settings some how.I even tried other players. I had been watching ..... videos earlier, it was a little choppy video but colours were fine, then I think loaded the flash players and after that the colour went to negative.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that after upgrading to 10.04 Lucid Desktop, nautilus no longer plays MP3 files on mouse-over. It does recognize the file as a music file as it displays the music note icon in the comic balloon next to the music note file icon when the mouse is positioned over an MP3 file, however no sound is played.If I double-click the MP3 file, totem is invoked and plays the MP3 file just fine.

However, on other computers the audio doesn't work, neither can I install a driver for the graphics card to use effects and (at least so it seems to me) run 3D games. Is it trying to use the same hardware that it did on the first computer I used and therefore hasn't installed the right stuff?
EDIT: I can 'play' music, so I think the codecs are fine, but no audio comes out, so I'm thinking it must be a driver problem.
EDIT2: Apologies, I checked the "Comprehensive sound problems solution guide" and was able to fix the audio simply by unmuting the speakers. However, the graphics problem remains.
One other tid bit that might be relevant is that the first time I booted up on a different computer it did tell me (in different wording) that the graphics might have trouble because it was set up for a different hardware system, so I told it to set up a new configuration and that seemed all dandy.

I recently installed ubuntu Luci Lynx, and, I like to listen to music whilst browsing the net. When I fired up rhythm box, I wanted to listen to music through my headphones. I started a song up, and as soon as it started playing, audio was transferring through both the monitor and my headphones. I would prefer a fix that didn't involve just having to remember to turn the volume down on my monitor every time I intend to use headphones

When I try to record something through the laptops mic, usb webcam mic or with desktop recorders audio record feature all playback is too fast (sounds a bit like alvin and the chipmunks :L ) Is anybody else having this problem, or even better know how to fix it ?

I got a 5.1 desktop sound sys for my recently built gaming rig. It sounds great. On Windows, that is. In ubuntu when I'm playing music, primarily when the subwoofer plays the bass, the speakers sound like they're farting and ripping phone books in half. Also, they get very statticy and sort of quiet. In sound preferences, analog stereo duplex is selected, if that's of any value. How can I get good sound playback in ubuntu?

Compared to 11.1, vlc now plays sound with drops about every second. To be more precise: sound is ok for several seconds, then a first drop appears. Thereafter the time between the following drops slowly shortens. After a minute or so, the drops come in intervals of about a second.
