I am on Ubuntu 9.10 and Will soon buy a ipod touch 4g. I would like to if there are any applications that could allow transferring songs to the device from Ubuntu?
View 1 Replies View RelatedA while ago, my iPod Touch was on the 3.1.3 firmware and when I would drag songs onto it from within Rhythmbox it worked perfectly. The filenames would be changed to follow Apple's weird naming conventions, and they would appear in the music library on my iPod. Then, I updated to 4.2.1 and I could no longer mount the iPod (this was a known issue, and someone made a fix, but I didn't bother with it) so I wasn't able to connect to it and transfer any more songs through Rhythmbox. Recently I noticed that I can now mount the iPod again and browse it in Rhythmbox (it must've been fixed in an update). However, I can't (successfully) transfer songs to it.
When I drag songs onto the iPod, Rhythmbox displays the "transferring __ songs" status, and they get added to the iPod's list of songs shown in Rhythmbox. However, they aren't visible in the iPod's actual music library. And when I reconnect the iPod to browse the music on my iPod in Rhythmbox, the newly transferred songs are no longer there. But the space left on my iPod has definitely decreased. So I went into my iPod's iTunes_Control/Music folder and noticed that all the songs I transferred are actually there in the F## folders, but they didn't get renamed to follow Apple's naming scheme (so instead of being named something like LNXQ.mp3 they just retain whatever the old filename was). So does anyone know what's going on? Rhythmbox definitely used to be able to transfer the songs in the "correct" way which ends with their filenames being changed and the songs being added to the iPod's music library. Why isn't this happening correctly anymore? Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Any who, like the title says if i ssh into my ipod on to ubuntu will the titles be screwed up?

I downloaded Amarok 2.4 today and am attempting to use it to sync my music to my iPod Touch. .mp3 files transfer perfectly, but for some reason any .m4a file is being reassigned a .mp4 extension and being relegated to the 'Video' app on the iPod. I do realise that an .m4a is just .aac audio in an mp4 wrapper, why Amarok and/or the iPod is deciding to treat them like a video instead? It's doing it both to my own ffmpeg-encouded .m4as as well as unprotected .m4as from the iTunes Store (relics of my time on Windows). Anyone know what might be going on with this? Ubuntu 10.10 NE, Amarok 2.4, iPod Touch 2G (... possibly 3G, but I'm pretty sure it's a 2G) running firmware 4.2.1
View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving updated to 10.10 I am having a problem getting songs from Rhythmbox to my iPod.
When i plug in the iPod it mounts fine and opens in Rhythmbox. I then transfer the songs that i just pulled off amazon/ubuntu one onto the iPod by drag and drop. In Rhythmbox, the songs appear to be on the iPod and i can even play them off the ipod while it is mounted to Rhythmbox - i.e. when i am browsing the music selection on the ipod through rythmbox the songs will play, which makes me think they are on the ipod.
The problem is that when i try and play a song off the ipod, through speakers or headphones, then nothing plays. The song simply sits silent on the ipod. The track timer doesn't move and the tracks count up at around 4 second intervals.
This simple drag and drop approach worked in 10.04.
I see that there are some problems syncing ipods in 10.10. The most relevant appears to be a bug reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ox/+bug/654105
This bug however appears to be about taking songs off an ipod, not putting them on. That said i think the problem might be related (about copying appropriate extensions). The issue is that the ipod organises music in such a bizarre fashion that i can't find the songs to check the extension that has come off Rhytmbox. I don't want to duplicate the bug if its the same or related.
I have an iPod Touch 2nd Gen with 3.1.3, Ubuntu 10.04, and the most up to date software, and my iPod doesn't appear in Rhythmbox. It shows up with Nautilus, so I know its being read.

View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen I plug in my iPod touch 3g I do get an icon for it on the desktop.However, when I open Rhythmbox, or Amarok, or Banshee or anything else, there is no icon for the iPod touch.I have tried the 'scan removable media' within Rhythmbox and it asks me to initialize a new iPod. Initializing results in the iPod making an audible bleep as if it were charging but does not result in its icon appearing in Rhythmbox. Also, I have been able to upload snapshots from the iPod onto my computer but what I need is audio syncing with the iPod.

I have ubuntu 9.10. I want to sync my ipod touch to ubuntu via rhyytm box as I heard ITunes 9 does not work even via wine. Or shall I wait ubuntu 10.04 LTS is out does that support it? I found this software for ubuntu for ipod and iphone called ifuse no idea how to get that going or anything.

In Rhythmbox it appears empty and crashes Rhythmbox when I try to right click it to see the properties. In Banshee the songs appear as 'other'. At this point my ipod shows on my desktop when i connect it via usb. I cannot set up the repository for it in gtkpod because i dont know the location its mounting to. if its mounting at all. so my question is. how can i tell where my ipod is being mounted? I dont have a clue what to look for in the terminal results for "df -a"

I've been trying to get my iPod touch (8GB, jailbroken) to connect with gtkpod iPod manager. But whenever I try to load the iPod I get this message.

I use Rhythmbox to transfer songs to my iPod (nano 1st gen). I installed Mediatomb the other day so I could stream music and video on my PS3 (which is awesome btw). Unfortunately, using Mediatomb my PS3 would only find a small portion of my music collection.So I ran Code:sudo nautilus then right clicked on my music folder, and changed the Group category to "Create and delete files" under the Permissions tab. After, my PS3 found my entire music collection. Great. But now in Rhythmbox I get an error about the mp3 files being read-only and can't transfer them to my iPod I've tried reversing the steps (with and without 'sudo'), but no luck. Under the File Access section of Permissions, I can never change anything (like to "read only" or "read and write"). No matter what I choose it always stays at "---"

One recurring issue I seem to have is that whenever I use rhythmbox, I'll play a song that I like as I edit my music library to my liking. Sometimes though, rhythmbox seems to register my single-click on a song as a double-click, and it will start playing it. Anyone else have this issue? View 3 Replies View RelatedI connect my iPod to the computer, open Amarok, and select the "Copy To -- Local Collection" option. I have over 2,000 songs on my iPod, but only 638 are imported. There is no rhyme or reason to which songs are imported and which are not.
Individually selecting the unimported songs and attempting to copy them is unsuccessful. I have followed the multimedia installation guide to the letter with success.
I use Banshee 1.5.4 on Ubuntu 9.10 with a 2nd gen iPod Shuffle. I was thrilled when I plugged it in to see that everything worked right out-of-the-box but then I found that there's no way to manually order songs, Banshee always put an arrow in a column for you.
If you don't know much about the Shuffle, it lets you flick between 'sorted' and 'shuffled' mode. In sorted mode it plays songs in the order they are arranged in the music playlist. I like to keep classical and relaxing songs at the top of my playlist for when I can't sleep but Banshee won't let me manually organise my songs so I can't do this.
Peculiarly, when you drag songs to the Shuffle individually, though they will show up as being sorted, when you go to play them on the Shuffle they play in the order in which you dragged them. I was planning to just drag and drop over each song individually but I think there must be an easier way... I'm probably just missing something. P.S. Here's a screenshot to clarify. I synched the songs over in the order of Blur, Gorillaz, Air and Muse but they don't show as such
A friend of mine has a 1st generation iPod touch, and wants to switch completely to linux, but is concerned how the songs currently on his iPod will be handled when he switches. He has many songs that are only on the iPod; he has purchased them from the iTunes store directly on the device, not through iTunes on his computer.
When he syncs his iPod with Banshee, will Banshee merely copy the songs onto his linux partition? Is there any chance that Banshee will remove the songs from his iPod? He obviously dosen't want to lose any of his music. A slightly lesser concern as well... will Banshee be able to play these protected files?

It also says that it works with iPod Touch 4G's with a lower OS (ex. 4.0.1). Mine came with 4.1, but even after jailbreaking, I cannot get it to sync music.
If I were to downgrade the OS (is this even advisable for this model), would I then be able to sync music in Ubuntu?
connecting my ipod touch (Version 1.1.5). When I plug the ipod in, ubuntu doesnt recognize it at all, not even as a camera. It will however charge it up. Ive tried Hipo and Amarok but neither of them do anything as well. I am running Ubuntu 9.10.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running (K)ubuntu 10.04 side-by-side with Windows 7 (Wubi install) and have been having trouble from the word go trying to get my ipod working with it. I've already managed to jailbreak it with Spirit in Windows in hopes that it would get the iPod libs to work but to no avail. I've downloaded just about every result I could find by searching for "ipod" in Synaptic as well as a few other libraries that I've found while searching the forums for a solution to my problem. I have both Banshee and RhythmBox on my machine and Bash can detect the device but it won't mount and to the best of my knowledge not a single program can see anything other than a folder labeled "iPod" in my "media" drive and even this only recently occurred. For what it's worth, I've downloaded the ipod-convenience package and this is the code that resulted when I tried to mount via Konsole:
