Ubuntu Multimedia :: VLC Wont Reproduce Files By Its Alphabetical Order?
Mar 24, 2010
This problem has been here for 2 months or so:
If I, in VLC, choose a folder with several mp4 or other multimedia format files, it will show em in the playlist in random order, definitively not alphabetical. that didnt use to happen before.
I need to copy my music to a portable HDD in alphabetical order. My headunit in my car will only display the folders and files in the order that they were written to the disk so to have any form of logic to the album / track listings they need to be written to the disk in alphabetical order.
how to do this in openSUSE? I know dolphin doesn't do this.
I am trying to write a bash script that will extract a .cbr (.rar) file, traverse the extracted files in alphabetical order and rename them 001.JPG, 002.JPG, 003.JPG, etc.So far I only have this much to extract it:
I am running fully updated ubuntu 10.10 and now, since 2 days ago, when I open a file in open office, gimp or gedit etc the directories and files now appear in reverse alphabetical order.
In Linux, the files were processing based on timestamp. How to process the files based on alphabets? My application is in windows. Here I am processed the files based on alphabetical order. While coming to linux its coming wrong.
I have a server with what appears to have 352 home directories (350 actually if you omit '.' & '..') & I am being asked to basically tally a list of whom all 350 users are in alphabetical order. Now I could sit here for days doing the 'finger' command to obtain their full name commented in '/etc/passwd' file but I would assume there is a script or way I could have Linux quirry the '/etc/passwd' file & take all the user 'comment' entries and export them to a list in alphabetical order. Does anyone know if this could happen and if so, how would I do something like this? I can't write bash / shell scripts to save my life
Code: cmennens@mail]:/$ ls -l total 160 drwxr-xr-x 352 root root 12288 Oct 21 13:41 home
I'm trying to get Chinese filenames to be listed in alphabetical order according to pinyin. Long ago I remember having to install a particular package for that to happen, but in the past year or so I believe that ubuntu at least was doing that automatically. On my most recent linux installation, however, I find that it's not sorting file names by pinyin order. I'm wondering if I have forgotten to install something this time.
the VBO file that i want to burn into a dvd is around 7.9 gb. i want to know if it's possible to split them in order to burn the files into two diferent dvds.
1.(opt) Clean install (From ubuntu.com - 64 bit, 64bit server, and netbook remix will all work(break))
2.(opt) Update, restart
3.(opt? I know it works (breaks) for 195.36.24 and for 256.44) activate nvidia current through Hardware Drivers Gui, restart
4. install vdpauinfo: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nvidia-vdpau/ppa then using Synaptic, reload packages, install libvdpau1 and vdpauinfo (will also work (break) with more recent driver from x-swat ppa as shown in below output))
I installed F13 beta yesterday, added RPMFusion's repos, updated and everything seemed ok, when the time came to add mp3 and video support I did the same as on F11, simply tried playing some mp3 and a rmvb video and after being asked to install missing codecs everything would work but! it didn't work for video, although it installed a bunch of files the rmvb video still won't play.
For now I installed mplayer and I can watch my videos alright, I also remember that on another opportunity the same happened to me and after a couple of updates the problem was fixed so no biggies but maybe someone can give me some advice on what to try to fix this? like remove a certain package and try reinstalling it.
I have a printed PDF Document which is comprised of Text, Lines, Boxes and so forth. I need to edit this document. I have scanned using varying forms of OCR software, the text reproduces fine, this I can edit - fine , but I cannot seem to save and reproduce the lines and boxes which is equally important. I should say that this PDF doc is also available on file on my USB stick
In the near future I will be obliged to change my computer. Currently, my system is OpenSuse 11.2 with KDE 4.5.3 on a dual-boot (with WinVista) laptop. I plan to have the new machine again be dual-boot (Win7).
First question: Is there a way to "describe" the current system in a way that, after the initial partitioning and probably a basic installation of OpenSuse 11.2, makes it easy to reproduce the current OpenSuse 11.2 installation (i.e., installed packages, profiles; more?) on the new machine? This would reduce manual work to copying some system files (e.g., /etc/csh.cshrc and similar) and of course /home/username etc.
Second question: Same as first, but this time with a change to OpenSuse 11.3 or the soon to come OpenSuse 11.4. A potential initial installation of OpenSuse 11.2 would be possible.
I'm just starting out with Ubuntu 10.10 on the desktop, (got VPS experience) and I'm running into an issue when installing Ubuntu 64bit. One that I'm unable to reproduce with the 32bit (x84/i368) disk. Just to note, the ISO's and disks have been checked with matching MBR.
I'm able to run the live CD on both versions perfectly. However when I press next after the 3th step of installation (The one in which you can choose whether you want to install updates and 3th party software or not), the Ubuntu 64 bit version stalls. Ubuntu doesn't freeze or anything, but it just doesn't seem able to go to the next step. (Partitioning)The odd thing about is that I can access the step perfectly on the 32bit disk. Now here is the question..... What could be the clarification for this issue and would it be possible to resolve it? (If so, how?)
P.S. Attached you can find a dxdiag output of the laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 7520G.
I'm trying to rename all files in a folder as such:
1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg
Renaming them is no problem, the problem I have is, they need to be in order of the datetime that they were taken, so that the 1.jpg would be the oldest file there. The difference in filetimes is going to be very small, around 3 or 4 tenths of a second.
The reason I need to do this is that I have another script (not quite finished yet), that takes the next three files in a loop and applies qtpfsgui to them to output an HDR image to another folder, then move on to 4,5 & 6, and: repeat.
If I execute the following command: cp -R /myfiles /mydestination
If myfiles contains several sub-directories and files, in what order will they be copied? For example, directories might be named 0123a, 9993c, myfolder, xfolder.
They are not copied in alphabetical order OR in date order OR in the order they appear when using a standard ls command as far as I can tell, so what actually does determine the order?
Edit: I am trying to determine the order that the cp command uses in order to determine how far along my copy command made it before it stopped. For example, I was hoping to be able to determine it copied 3 of the 4 directories successfully.
possible to rename a list of files in batch in order to maintain the last part of them, then purge a central section and then again maintain the extension?I.E.:
If transfer all files under a directory by rsync, what is the order that rsync determines to transfer the files one by one?At first it looked like rsync transfers files in alphabetical order, but later I found rsync skipped some files in the first sweep through the alphabetic order, and then went back to transfer files that were skipped in the first time and this time still in alphabetic order.
I have the following option set in my ~/.lftp/rc Code: set mirror:order "*.rpm */" Here, *.rpm files are given preference. The rest of the files are being downloaded by lftp in alphabetical order, not the custom order sent by my ftp server. Is there a way to make it download it in the order sent by my ftp server.I'm using proftpd and the files are sorted by size.
Both are reverse of each other. Now, basically if you see, the contents are same, but in different order. Is there any easy way in which i can find out like which items dont match between 2 files, regardless of order. Lets say i add 10.1.4.1 to File1. Now the result of such comparison should be only '10.1.4.1'. Currently if i am comparing both files using diff, it gives me all the lines.
I am using "if" to force a word under the condition that the first letter of that word must be a letter of the alphabet, regardless of capitalization, using the " "" != "" " syntax.
Like so:
Code: if [[ "$interface" != "WHAT DO I PUT HERE?" ]] ; then echo "Invalid input" exit 1 fi
I have a china phone which has mp3 player and unfortunately it reads the file names in its memory card in sequential order according where the file is saved. The file system is NTFS. cod
**Note: DDD song was last because I saved AAA to EEE songs then later added DDD song
Then suddenly i deleted BBB song and replaced it with FFF song code...
This is kinda lame. but the OS of the phone has no capability sorting the file according to filename in its built in mp3 player.
my question is how can I sort the files sector by sector(is my term right?) so the lame mp3 player would read the files finally in alphabetically sorted order. I Will plug my phone on my PC
I've a program which manages my pdf and references. I wish to put some of the information on my website but that program (Mendeley) does export only in XML (or bibtex). I'd like to simply convert the XML output files to SQL in order to create or update an SQL database.I'm not an expert in either XML or SQL (use only PHPMyadmin). Does someone get help me to figure out?
I'm having a problem with video capture devices. I have a cheap analog capture card (encore) and a webcam. Not sure exactly why, they are mapped as /dev/video0 and /dev/video1 in diferent orders randomly as far as i can see.So, sometimes i reboot having webcam as /dev/video0 and capture card as /dev/video1. But then i reboot later, or next day, and they swap. Then, i have to change config for other programs over and over again. For example, i use tvtime to watch live tv, and i have to edit the config xml files almost everyday... Can i force devices to be always mapped the same way?Can i at least add some kind of alias to use instead of device numbers?
I want to do is this: choose the order (other than alphabetical) of the files that I burn to a disc.Brasero doesn't allow it K3b doesn't allow it GnomeBaker doesn't allow it Unless I am missing something, I can't figure out any way other than renaming all my files with a single number and/or letter at the beginning of a file name to choose the order of files. This blows my mind it seems like the most "no duh" feature that everyone would need in any Cd burning program. if I am stupid or if the software developers are stupid. (because I really can't see any other options) This is seriously so important (to me), that I will abandon Linux and go back to Windows if I can't do it.
I have made two source files named as sum.c and average.cI have included sum.c in average.c both files in Documents directory.when i compile average.ot followingerror"average.c:4:22: fatal error: sum.c: No such file or directorycompilation terminated. How to solve this issue?I have tried to copy sum.c to usrinclude folder but unable to copy
I have a second hard drive with fedora 10 installed on it. My primary drive and os is fedora 12. How do I edit the fstab file in order to mount the second hard drive and get files off of it
