mms radio cannot be played with totem player.
so I used to play it by using 'open with "vlc"' menu in totem player.
But at this time, There's only 'open with "movie player"'.
Is there any way to change 'open with "movie player"' to 'open with "vlc"?
I recently upgraded to 10.10 and installed ktorrent at the same time. After the upgrade whenever I try to open up and file or folder for that matter totem tries to open them. Totem is acting like the default app for all the files on my computer. I tried uninstalling an reinstalling both totem and ktorrent and I still have the same problem.
Since I installed my new debian squeeze system with gnome 2.30.2 I got problems with totem and totem-xine application.
Problem 1: The file asociation for .avi does always open totem! I changed the .avi file asociation unter -> preferences -> "preferred applications" for example to vlc... but no chance it always open the totem player. I looked also in the gnome configuration tool (gconf) and there is the file asociaton set on vlc, but he still opens totem.
Problem 2: All .avi files with video content I cannot see the video and I hear only the audio stream. If I open the video I got a popup with the message that the codec is not installed, then I click on search codecs and totem search for it and does not found anything. I have the codec installed because I see it in avidemux... - If I install only totem I install also all gstreamer packages ... - If I install totem-xine I install all xine plugins packackages etc ... - If I use vlc or mplayer all works fine ... - If I start totem over a console shell and I open the video, I get no error message in the shell.
I've switched to Xubuntu and the procedure is obviously different How can I make my Windows key open the Applications Menu in Xubuntu?I found the keyboard shortcuts in the Settings menu but I see no option for adding a shortcut. It only shows the existing shortcuts.
When I assign a keyboard shortcut to open the main menu, it always opens the "Applications menu" by default. Is there a way to make the keyboard shortcut open the "System menu" by default?
just want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.

I somehow managed to stuff up my Bookmarks in the Places Menu while using Totem Media Player: When trying to open locations from Places Menu, Totem opens instead of Nautilus.I'm running fedora 9.
I've had this for a while now and though I might as well do something about it. When I have more than one or more windows open none of the show up on the taskbar, I'll show you what I mean.:
Although you can't see it from the picture, I actually have two windows open, both of which should show up on the taskbar (1.). I can open windows by clicking on the button marked 2.
I have Fedora 12 in my laptop. I can't open rhythmbox, totem movie player, nautilus etc. If I try to open through terminal, it reports that Warning: Unable to create "trees" RDF storage.Performance can be improved by upgrading librdf.I have installed all plugins for playing multimedia files.I searched for my problem but I could not find any solution. In addition to this I could not see any icons in GNOME desktop environment. If I try to open computer through PLACES in menu bar it reports that File Manager not responding.
I have been using windowmaker for some time now. I really love this wm, but I've one major problem; how do I make certain windows open the same size each time I open that program? For instance, I have a certain size I prefer for Pcmanfm, Vlc, deadbeef, and geequie, but every time I run them, they open anywhere on the desktop at all sorts of sizes. I especially hate resizing a video window when the video is playing.
I can do this in fluxbox, but I have a different set of problems with that window manager, namely, I can't organize my dockapps the way I want, despite editing the slitlist and some won't work at all. While I love Openbox, I can't get the windows sized right each time, either.
I notice that when you try to Make link to any file or folder form context menu, It just copy the same file size? even when i tried to copy the link to external storage disk..
I have a desktop hooked up to a router and plugged into my TV. I like to run Totem and have videos running full screen on my TV. I would like to control that Totem using my laptop (connected to the same router over wifi). How would I go about doing that? I connected to my desktop using SSH and tried to send signals to Totem, but nothing worked. I tried using VNC, and that was ineffective as well.
I installed my DVB-T board and I can watch TV using VLC and my channels.conf file. I saved a copy of channels.conf as ~/.gstreamer-0.10/dvb-channels.conf but when I start Totem (GStreamer ed.), I don't see a "Watch TV" option under the "Movie" menu.
I'm trying to install Cinelerra because it has a plugin to do chromakey. I found a .deb and installed it, but now I don't know how to start the program. It didn't make a shortcut in my main menu, and typing "cinelerracv" returns "command not found"Did I install it wrong, or not at all? What should I try next?
Whenever I'm playing a video in Totem, if I use the navigation bar thing to go to a different time in the video, the video output freezes. Audio continues, but video stops. If I pause the video first, then use the navigation thing, then click play again, it works fine. Same happens for music; the visualizer freezes if I drag the navigation thing.
Edit: If I put it on repeat, when the video or music repeats the video output freezes also.
I was able to watch videos that had h.264, but now I can't. when I play the same video from before, it tells me I don't have the codec installed, but when I try to have it installed:
So there's just one DVD (Narnia) that won't play on my Ubuntu machine using Totem: other DVDs play (I've installed libdvdread4 and libdvdcss2 like a good boy) and non-pulseaudio players like VLC play it properly. If I completely remove and kill pulseaudio, it plays in totem fine. It gets to the language selection screen and I select English, but as soon as any sound is involved it doesn't play. Clicking Go --> DVD menu causes Totem to hang. I don't want to be uninstalling pulseaudio, and VLC player is a bit complex for the mother.
The output of totem: Code: marcus@margit-laptop:~$ totem libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.10 for DVD access libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 4.1.3 libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.10 for DVD access libdvdnav: DVD Title: libdvdnav: DVD Serial Number: 43D1F9FE (GEAR): libdvdnav: DVD Title (Alternative): libdvdnav: Unable to find map file '/home/marcus/.dvdnav/.map' ..... marcus@margit-laptop:~$
Note that before the last line, Totem does absolutely nothing. It just sits their. Like it's trying to devour my soul or something.
My totem media player hangs a lot.The video playback is not smooth ..as if i am on a very old computer and believe me i am not. though everything runs smooth on vlc . but i'd still prefer totem if it can be fixed.i running ubuntu 10.10 , the graphic card i have is Nvidea 8600GTM
I've made it my new years resolution to sort out my video collection
I know totem can create a png montage with the frames of a video, however, I've only been able to create one at a time. If i told you i have 621 videos to deal with, you can understand why im asking this question.
Is there anyway in which i can script this, so i can can do the entire directory, name the png the title of the film while my pc is doing nothing?, I've looked at the "man" for totem, and there doesnt seem to be anything in there.
Or alternatively, suggest alternate software, which can do the whole thing without scripting?! I've already looked at GframeCapture, but that doesn't do it also.
My partner is a teacher and has downloaded some videos from a teacher's resource site but can't seem to play them in Ubuntu. They play fine in Windows XP using Windows Media Player but they only play a few seconds in VLC or Totem and then freeze. The files in question seem to be normal MPG (MPEG-1) video files but somehow VLC and Totem choke on them. I have installed all restricted video formats including w32codecs but still no joy. My partner is threatening to go back to Windows!
no sound on playing .flv files, the volume control greyout. however vlc can play them without sound problem. videos also works without problem on sound.
I'm trying to get Totem to play VCD's. There are many complaints about this not working, but since they're all really old and dealing with different problems, it's hard to tell if this is an issue with me, or with the totem package. When I put a VCD in the computer, I expect it to pop up, (as it does) and prompt me to open the CD with Totem (which it does). When Totem tries to play it, though, it throws this error:
Code: An error occurred. Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file.
Interestingly this is the same error I get when I try to play DVDs on a separate computer with the same ubuntu software. The CD plays, however. If I click ok, and go to: Movie > Play Disk '<disk name>'
The problem is: 1) I want it to be automatic, without errors, 2) These VCD's have several tracks and after the first 30 second track, it stops. It won't play any other tracks.
I tried a few other pieces of software just to see if other things worked (as I'm looking for user friendly-ness, I doubt the others will be a final option): VLC: (No apparent activity. Disk spins) gxine: Autoplay input plugin 'VCD' failed: Check engine output for further details. Mplayer: Error!: Failed to open vcd://2. K3b seems to have no problem, but it's not really a media player...
I'm on Kubuntu 9.10, using Totem to play .wmv files, and certain of them cause the player to search for an audio codec (wmap?) that is never found. The video played without audio after that. So I followed advice to remove ~/.gstreamer-0.10, and reboot. A new .gstreamer-0.10 directory appeared, but now, Totem will not even play the video. It recognizes the audio codec however. The video codec shows up as "Windows Media..." but resolution is 0 x 0, and nothing ever appears in the window. I tried uninstalling and re-installing w32codecs and non-free-codecs, and removing the registry files under ~/gstreamer-0.10 and using gst-inspect to rebuild the database, but nothing helps.
If I start to play any kind of media file in Totem, the screen goes black, a terminal appears and flickers for a few seconds so fast I can't read it, and then the system shuts down.
Yesterday Totem started crashing - the window shows for a second and then dissapears. Reinstalling via synaptic didnt help.Invalid column number 6 added to iter (remember to end your list of columns with a -1)Segmentation fault.I removed all installed gstreamer codecs, and it still crashes, and I now I have no clue why I cant use the app.I`m using a fresh install of Karmik Koala (over my ubuntu 10.04 without a format )
