I'm trying to install Cinelerra because it has a plugin to do chromakey. I found a .deb and installed it, but now I don't know how to start the program. It didn't make a shortcut in my main menu, and typing "cinelerracv" returns "command not found"Did I install it wrong, or not at all? What should I try next?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install the projectM visualizer and I'm running into some problems. Initially, I tried to install it by running "sudo apt-get install libvisual-projectm", which seemed to work... except there's no launcher for it in my Applications menu and "projectM-pulseaudio" returns "command not found". From there, I decided to try to build it myself, by following this guide (<- link). It went well until the "make" command, which returns the following error:

After upgrading Opera browser, by old shortcut for it became invalid. The new was added but the old one stayed and is invalid. I can not remove it through normal means as it doesn't appear in the menu editing window but it's there in the menu.
Is there any way to manually remove items from the menu? Or to rebuild the entire menu?
I wrote bash script that uses zenity and a choice to install various programs, tested it and it works, but only when I call it from terminal. I wanted to add it in gnome main menu. The script is /home/eee/zenity.sh. In accessories I added an entry with command:

I installed the Berkeley DB on the Ubuntu server and tried to access the dbxml from the command line and it returns command not found

Looks like no sound in rendered file either! So no sound at all with Cinelerra....
p.s. I have sound working fine with all of my other programs. And working with same files on Kdenlive, Kino or Pitivi, all give me sound no problem. Running a basic Karmic Ubuntu Studio 32bit setup.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently our Son showed me Xscreensaver which he has running on his Debian Squeeze machine. Since I really like what you can do with it and since I use Squeeze as well, I figured that I'd try out the Xscreensaver on my system. Compiz is already working and I haven't had any 3D related problems yet. Anyway, so I install xscreensaver from the software center ... then I go to the main menu ... sure enough it's there alright. Then I place a checkmark in the box to activate/display that feature in the main menu ... but after a second or two the checkmark just vanishes. This happens over and over, even after rebooting.
I thought that a logged in user has full privileges over the items that appear in the main menu? Am I missing something? I don't know of any other (root) method to access the main menu with the apps ... Everything else reacts fine, just the folder for the xscreensaver can't be checked.

I have a headset microphone plugged into the built-in audio input. The output is plugged into an amplifier > speakers.
Pulseaudio is "helpfully" routing the microphone input signal to the speaker output. I do not want this. I go to pavucontrol and disable the "monitor of the internal audio analog stereo" -- and what I say into the microphone is still coming out of the speakers.
Google gives a lot of information about how to live-stream mic input over the Internet. And, I found this here (that's for karmic, I'm running lucid):

... but that's about how to ENABLE loopback. It says loopback should not be enabled by default, but I very clearly hear that something is doing the same thing as loopback.
(Of course, I need to hear sound from applications that are playing, and when I'm dictating text into NaturallySpeaking running under virtual box, I need sound input to go there -- so turning the mic all the way down to zero is not the solution.)
I'm fairly sure I remember hearing this behavior ever since installing Ubuntu, and I didn't do anything to turn it on. I can't imagine most users would prefer this behavior -- if it's the default behavior, why? It makes absolutely no sense to me. (Sorry. It's one of those piddly little configuration things that costs a couple of hours of web searching time, and after a while I just have to give up, but not before becoming much more frustrated than I should have to.)
So, to be clear, here's what I want:
- Applications playing audio should send sound to the main output.
- Applications receiving audio input should hear the microphone.
- Microphone sound should not EVER go to the main output unless I have explicitly launched an application making the connection. (The signal goes input -> output even when NO application is open - hence my consternation.)

i installed ubuntu desktop 11.04 on my acer aspire one 751h and found that the wifi didnt work. the netbook remix was the same so i went through all the previous releases up until 8.0.4.4 which worked fine on the live cd. so i tried to install but the installer didnt see my main hard drives only the usb i was using to install. so i tried using wubi installer which only left me with this screen when i tried to load up ubuntu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason Update Manager is not installing updates as of yesterday.I have it set to check daily and notify if updates are available. It has been working without issues for well over a year now.
Update Manager tells me updates are available and presents the list of security, recommended, and other updates. All are selected to update, but when I select Install Updates in Update Manager it returns with a Reading Package Information window overlaid on the main Update Manager window - building dependency tree then reading state information and dumps me back to the main Update Manager window without performing any update actions.
