after upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 banshee does not see my Ipod anymore, which is a nano video 3g one. Rhythmbox works though, gtkpod not. I thought I had to install libgpod-dev and libgpod2, but the second library is not available anymore in synaptic. I have installed libgpod4, libgpod-common, -dev.

My iPod Nano 3G, which used to work perfectly in 9.10, doesn't seem to work in 10.04. It's detected by Ubuntu and Rhythmbox, but Rhythmbox can't see what's on it and you can't synch to it. Banshee doesn't even detect it at all. I thought iPod compatibility had been improved for this release, not gotten worse? Anyway, what can I do to troubleshoot and hopefully fix the problem?

My 2nd Gen iPod Nano isn't syncing with Rhythmbox, Banshee, or any other music program. My computer will see the iPod and mount it fine, but only as a Read-Only drive (so I can't drag files onto it). In Banshee, for example, it will see the drive, but none of the sync options work, and I can't drag music files from the library onto the iPod.and if anyone knows anything, that'd be great. Also, if you need more info, let me know. Trying to move everything into Linux and this is really the last thing I want to work to make the move final.

I am trying to get working properly with Ubuntu. Currently I am trying to get it to work with Banshee.Originally, my girlfriend connected it to iTunes running under Windows, and configured it and loaded music, photos and podcasts onto it. Unfortunately for her, the Windows machine had a hardware failure, and there is no other PC running real Windows for her to use. I have some Windows Virtual Machines on my Ubuntu server, but there are known problems passing through the iPod USB connection to a KVM Virtual Machine.
I tried iTunes under Wine (using the PlayOnLinux software to install and configure), but that also doesn't work (also apparently a known problem). So I am left with getting the iPod working with real native Ubuntu software. I tried Rhythmbox, but that doesn't seem to support writing to an iPod. Then I tried Banshee, which claims to be able to do it all.Banshee can connect to the iPod, and I can load music and videos onto the iPod, but:Banshee cannot see any of the music already on the iPod (loaded with ITunes),The iPod cannot see any of the files (music or video, nor any new Playlists) loaded by Banshee. The files are there (I can see them by browsing the iPod device with Nautilus), and they are certainly taking up storage space, but they do not show up when using the iPod directly. It is as if there are 2 iPods: the real iPod, and a virtual iPod accessed by Banshee.
I am running Banshee 1.6 Beta 3 (1.5.2), on Jaunty (9.04).When I first connected the iPod to Banshee it told me that, because the device had been used with a new version of iTunes, the media catalogue would have to be rebuilt, to which I agreed. I am starting to suspect that there are now 2 media catalogues on the iPod, one being used by Banshee, and the other by the iPod iteslf.

I used this code ffmpeg -i video.flv -r 12.5 -s 320x240 -vcodec mpeg -ar 22050 -ab 128k -acodec ac3 out.mp4 for converting a flv to mp4. The output is all right, but in the ipod nano 3g 4GB it has no sound. What's wrong? Maybe I put the wrong -acodec ac3 options?
Code:
-acodec libfaac
Code:
-acodec aac
gives me
Code:
Unknown encoder 'libfaac'

I have an iPod nano 5th generation and can't get it to recognise any music I load from amarok or rhythmbox. I tried to install iTunes with wine but that didn't work and I have no access to a windows installation disk so I can run iTunes through virtual box. If anyone knows of any fix (even if it's temporary) that I can use to get music to play on my iPod, I have a 36 hour journey coming up and really want to be able to listen to some music to dull the boredom.

I've only used Sansa products before so I'm wondering if the "6th generation" ipod touch works natively under Arch as a USB drive. Can I simply copy music over to it as such or do I have to go though itunes?

My 4 GB 2nd generation Ipod nano will not mount to my Compaq Presario 2105US running Xubuntu 9.10. I get a message that says, "Failed to mount Ipod" with a description that says, "mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdb1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so ."
I even went back to my XP to restore the ipod to factory settings essentially formating it, to see if that would help, but I get the same result.
Is there something that I may have overlooked?

I haven't hooked my ipod up to a computer since I started using ubuntu in June of 2008, and my playlists are getting a bit dusty. I have a 5th generation ipod. Will I have better luck with amarok or rhythmbox, or does it not matter?

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I have been trying to get my iPod to play with Rhythmbox. The program reads my iPod and everything, but when i got to play a song it gives me an error saying, "Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in." What can be done to fix this error. I have been working hours on this and reading forums left and right, and still nothing has worked. I will post an image below to show what the error looks like.

I started having problems with my Rhythmbox a few weeks back. I cannot transfer my music to my iPod when I can before. I don't know what happened. It won't even pop an error message.
Did this problem ever occurred to anyone? I even installed gtkpod but it's the same, the songs cannot be transferred without an error message whatsoever.

I love how Rhythmbox connects quickly and easily to my iPod, and how Rhythmbox does a pretty solid job of keeping track of changes to my library, though it is large. But I cannot seem to create playlists on the iPod through Rhythmbox. When I create them, I can see them in Rhythmbox, but when I unplug the iPod and try to play them, they don't show up. I plug the iPod back in, and Rhythmbox acts like they're there - I can even play the Playlist from the iPod in Rhythmbox.
Is there something I need to do to "write" the Playlist to the iPod from Rhythmbox? It is so irritating to have to create an "on the go" playlist on the iPod and then fire up Rhythmbox and rename it what i want it to be.

I've just noticed (to my slight annoyance) that Rhythmbox's Last.fm plugin doesn't scrobble multiple plays of the same track from my iPod. If I listen to the same track several times before syncing my iPod on Rhythmbox, only one of the plays is actually scrobbled to Last.fm. Googling suggests I'm not the only person to encounter this.
I'm looking at how to report a bug for this, but in the meantime are there any other suggestions for more reliable scrobbling tools for Ubuntu? I fondly remember the days when Amarok 1.4 used to "just work" (with this and many other features), but Amarok 2 (my preferred music player) is still not doing this.

So my brother starts complaining to me about rhythmbox not showing his Ipod. Well I come home and he's right. I restarted rhythmbox and nothing. Disconnect and connect the ipod again, nothing. Works in Banshee, but I hate using banshee right now because it's extremely crowded.
So yeah, checked the plugins area, and it says Ipod support is checked.
I also use my creative zen with rhythmbox, and it seems to be working with that. Just the Ipod isn't working with it.

I've made some progress (at first, the ipod wasn't seen by the system at all). I've removed what appeared to be conflicting usb mounting packages and that has allowed the ipod to be recognized by the computer (i.e. the name of the ipod show up on the desktop with an ipod icon and i can manipulate files with nautilus. however, before i upgraded to lucid, rhythmbox would start automatically and I was able to manage the music through rhythmbox. now, since the upgrade, rhythmbox does not detect the presence of the ipod.

Having updated to 10.10 I am having a problem getting songs from Rhythmbox to my iPod.
When i plug in the iPod it mounts fine and opens in Rhythmbox. I then transfer the songs that i just pulled off amazon/ubuntu one onto the iPod by drag and drop. In Rhythmbox, the songs appear to be on the iPod and i can even play them off the ipod while it is mounted to Rhythmbox - i.e. when i am browsing the music selection on the ipod through rythmbox the songs will play, which makes me think they are on the ipod.
The problem is that when i try and play a song off the ipod, through speakers or headphones, then nothing plays. The song simply sits silent on the ipod. The track timer doesn't move and the tracks count up at around 4 second intervals.
This simple drag and drop approach worked in 10.04.
I see that there are some problems syncing ipods in 10.10. The most relevant appears to be a bug reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ox/+bug/654105
This bug however appears to be about taking songs off an ipod, not putting them on. That said i think the problem might be related (about copying appropriate extensions). The issue is that the ipod organises music in such a bizarre fashion that i can't find the songs to check the extension that has come off Rhytmbox. I don't want to duplicate the bug if its the same or related.

A while ago, my iPod Touch was on the 3.1.3 firmware and when I would drag songs onto it from within Rhythmbox it worked perfectly. The filenames would be changed to follow Apple's weird naming conventions, and they would appear in the music library on my iPod. Then, I updated to 4.2.1 and I could no longer mount the iPod (this was a known issue, and someone made a fix, but I didn't bother with it) so I wasn't able to connect to it and transfer any more songs through Rhythmbox. Recently I noticed that I can now mount the iPod again and browse it in Rhythmbox (it must've been fixed in an update). However, I can't (successfully) transfer songs to it.
When I drag songs onto the iPod, Rhythmbox displays the "transferring __ songs" status, and they get added to the iPod's list of songs shown in Rhythmbox. However, they aren't visible in the iPod's actual music library. And when I reconnect the iPod to browse the music on my iPod in Rhythmbox, the newly transferred songs are no longer there. But the space left on my iPod has definitely decreased. So I went into my iPod's iTunes_Control/Music folder and noticed that all the songs I transferred are actually there in the F## folders, but they didn't get renamed to follow Apple's naming scheme (so instead of being named something like LNXQ.mp3 they just retain whatever the old filename was). So does anyone know what's going on? Rhythmbox definitely used to be able to transfer the songs in the "correct" way which ends with their filenames being changed and the songs being added to the iPod's music library. Why isn't this happening correctly anymore? Is there anything I can do to fix this?

when I plug in my iPod touch 3g I do get an icon for it on the desktop. However, when I open Rhythmbox, or Amarok, or Banshee or anything else, there is no icon for the iPod touch.I have tried the 'scan removable media' within Rhythmbox and it asks me to initialize a new iPod. Initializing results in the iPod making an audible bleep as if it were charging but does not result in its icon appearing in Rhythmbox. Also, I have been able to upload snapshots from the iPod onto my computer but what I need is audio syncing with the iPod.

I'm still in my beginning months of using Ubuntu and I would appreciate any help I could get on this. I'm starting to think I may not be able to fix this.
