View 1 RepliesI have been searching the forums with limited success on how to convert MTS files to MPEG. I have been able to open the MTS file with OpenShot and KdenLive but they aren't really for converting files or at least I haven't figured out how to do it. Is there a simple GUI tool to convert these MTS files quickly and easily?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'll start with the end:
Code:
mencoder infile.mts -demuxer lavf -oac copy -ovc copy -of lavf=mp4 -o outfile.mp4 ..and now to explain myself:
AVCHD (MTS) is basically a container format for MPEG4-AVC video and AC-3 Audio. It's commonly found on modern camcorders. I have pulled files off a Sony Camcorder (I forget which model), which records in 1080i@50Hz. It seems there are timestamp problems, and both the even and odd fields are stamped with the same time, and not 1/50th of a second apart as you'd expect. This currently breaks ffmpeg (0.6~svn20100711), and the mencoder (SVN-r31722) internal demuxer doesn't like it either. The libavformat (lavf 0.6~svn20100711) demuxer/muxer seems to handle it, so that's what we'll use.

I've been trying to view the footage I have in 1080i AVCHD on my new system but can only view it in VLC, and then only when hardware acceleration is turned off, and there's still a bit of shearing with a hexcore and a Radeon 5850.
Is there a trick to get it to play and/or preview in Mplayer/OpenShot/PiTiVi ? I've tried them all, and I can hear sound but no video. Maybe there's a system-wide way to shut off video decode acceleration.
I guess what I'm asking is, can anyone play/preview/edit in these applications with AVCHD or is it something with my new system? Everything else seems to work great. Maybe I need to try turning off compiz compositing?
Unfortunately, I bought the damn thing to do exactly this kind of video editing, and don't want to have to drop back into Win 7 to use Vegas.

I been looking on Google to convert videos to mp3 audio and all I get is just a video conversion from one format to another and some things I installed just get error messages so I took them back off. Anyone know the proper syntax in Mencorder to convert a video just to audio? Or any other program I can use that won't cause this much trouble?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen importing files from my digital camera, I find it less confusing to open a folder and then drag the files to where I want them on my hard drive rather than to have Shotwell do it automatically (as described by jennacav in this post). That's straightforward for photo files, but what about for video files? On my camera, they are stored in an AVCHD folder, which itself has several folders and subfolders. Does this mean that I have to drag the files over as a group, or is there some way they can be handled individually as photos can be? (I'm new to both Ubuntu and digital photography.....)

are there a good video and audio converters?
I want to convert an .iso video file to an .avi file. Google searches suggested using dvd:rip. Dvd::rip didn't work for me because I am using a netbook that doesn't have a DVD drive. I'm using eeebuntu on an Asus eeePC 1000HE.

View 7 Replies View Relatedsomebody gave me a dvd of my little music group, and i used a ubuntu application to edit out two clips (i think i used avidimux--it was about a year ago). it produced a clip in avi format, which is not accepted by anything. i'd like to upload it to my facebook or even videos, but need to convert it. i've tried about everything, but have had no success. i just downloaded winff and tried that. the conversion window produce a lot of information ending with "unknown encoder 'libx264'," whatever that means.
does anyone know how i would convert a clip from avi to mpeg4? it's driving me nuts.
I just wanted to know what people think is the best video encoding program. I want to be able to convert any video files to any format, mostly x264, avi that sort of stuff. I used AVS encoder in windows.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI emailed myself a video. I took with my ipod touch, and its in .mov format which ubuntu doesn't support. I have an app called arista transcoder (a little slow, but very handy), which, for some reason, isn't able to convert the video. its strange because I was able to convert a few other videos from my ipod (same format) into .avi files last week. Arista says something about an unrecognized media type.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi bought an obscure video/mp3 player from china recently, and one day, i managed to use AVIDEMUX to succesfully transfer video to it. However, i dont remember the settings AT ALL. I open the working video file with AVIDEMUX, and check out the properties, but there is option in the lists to the left to convert to the video type that is open. Is there anyway to export the video properties, then convert any video, to those parameters?
View 6 Replies View Relateda movie is encoded with AC3 in 6 channel audio, what I get out is all of the sounds except for voices, which in 5.1 would be sent to the center channel. What I usually do is fire up avidemux and convert the audio to mp3 stereo, as converting to a 5.1 format usually ends up with a very odd sound (like running everything through an echo chamber). What I'd like to do is run a script to batch-convert these files from AC3 to MP3. The video format may vary, but they are usually XVID. I am comfortable at the command line, but I am not well-versed in audio/video tool terms. I don't need anything extravagant, I just want something that works. Heck, even if it is done one at a time, having a shell script that I can use to simply type:
tool.sh inputfile.avi outputfile.avi
