Just a quick how-to, to get mic working with Creative Labs SB X-Fi on Ubuntu 10.10 64bit. This is a result of my conversation with a 'friend' I met on #ubuntu on irc.freenode.net, To begin, this is the card we are talking about:
Code:
$lspci | grep audio
05:01.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB X-Fi
This card uses "snd-ctxfi" module for the audio output.
And this is how he got the mic to work using alsamixer. I have seen many thread/posts on the internet about this issue.

I just installed Lucid Lynx on a Thinkpad X60 last night in order to wring every last drop of utility out of it, and so my wife might have a notebook that she can use for Skype. I couldn't get the built-in microphone to pick anything up, but figured it didn't matter because I planned to use the one with the Creative Labs VF0400 camera. The problem is, using both Skype's test call, as well as the Sound Recorder program, the sampling rate may be out of whack because playback of anything recorded with the microphone sounds like the chipmunks (as in Alvin, Simon, Theodore) -- it sounds as though the playback has been sped up, though the Skype test call operator sounds just fine. If I can't get the microphone working, then that pretty much kills what I was going to use this computer for.

I have installed Kubuntu Natty on a Toshiba laptop with an Intel Card on i386. Sites with flash video content (....., vimeo and the BBC's iplayer site) however don't work as expected: the video track stops while the sound carries on. Pressing the right mouse button in the video player screen makes the video continue immediately, but this is not the expected behaviour! I have also tried with Windows, and it works fine, so it is not a network problem. Audio seems to work fine. I'm attaching the output from lspci and that of Xorg.0.log that appears relevant to the intel driver. code...

I have been using Ubuntu as my main OS on my desktops for a couple of years now. Started off with a HP with a Creative Labs XiFi soundcard, but am now using a Dell with a Creative Labs Audigy. Sound worked perfectly on the Dell since a clean install (about 7 months ago). I turned it on a week or so ago, and no sound! Even the little sound indicator in the notification area has gone.

I downloaded Adobe Air, both the rpm and the .bin versions. First I tried the rpm, it went through the motions of installing but just disappeared. then I tied the .bin, got tot the installer, accepted the license, entered my root password, but it stopped installing with "an error occurred. Adobe AIR could not be installed. Install either Gnome Keyring or KDE KWallet before installing Adobe AIR". I opened Kwallet and tried again, but to no avail. I am running OS11.4 64 bit. What can I do to get this thing working?

I am trying to connect some USB 3.0 HDD's up to a Via Labs USB 3.0 Hub. When I type 'lsusb', it only lists the hub and not the devices. If I plug in a USB 2.0 device to the hub, it can be recognized. If I plug the USB 3.0 device directly into the system, it is also recognized.
In further investigating, I typed 'lsusb -v' and found that the USB 3.0 part of the hub has an error - under where the Hub Descriptor information is supposed to be, it says "** UNRECOGNIZED: 06 30 00 00 02 00 can't get hub descriptor: Broken Pipe"
So that explains why the drive can't be recognized. My question is: Is this a Linux problem or a Via Labs problem? I am running Slackware 13.1.
Is there somewhere on the system I can make Linux recognize this properly?

I have a new HP Z800 workstation that came with a Creative Lab X-Fi Titanium (EMU20k2) sound card install.
I haven't had any luck getting it to work with the CentOS 5 system drivers so I went to their site and downloaded the driver for Linux (64 bit)[URL]... It fails to compile with the following error

I'm running 64-bit Natty Narwahl, and I'm trying to figure out how to get Pandora on Adobe Air. After enough searching I got Adobe Air to install, but I can't get it to install Pandora. It keeps telling me to try again or, if it keeps happening, contact the publisher. Also, I can't seem to understand if this is just Pandora One subscription that I can do this with, or if I can just use the non-subscription service with it.

I was just wondering if there is an alternative to Adobe Flash. I just checked the Software Center and it told me that "there is no version for your architecture". As everyone is well aware a lot of sites are Flash heavy. Anyone have a solution? I am running Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic on a Dell Dimension E521 with AMD Athlon X2 4200+.

I was wondering if anyone could answer my question. For some reason I've been trying to update my flash player and every time I try and do this from the terminal it tells me that the command can't be found, even though the zip file that contains the update is executable and my PATH has been set to include the directory that said file is in. I am running ubuntu 11 .04 and here [URL]...If there is any other way that I can execute the update?

On a Debian system, I installed Adobe Acrobat Reader using the Linux binary (AdbeRdr9.4.2-1_i486linux_enu.bin) downloaded from Adobe's website. I realized there's a way to install it from a Debian package as opposed to Adobe's binary (and be able to keep up better with security updates), so I want to remove Adobe's version and install the Debian package. What's the right way to uninstall Reader when it was installed this way?

I can't get the flash plug-in to work properly. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 x64, which I think might be the issue. It seems to be able to run flash games and videos etc. but it won't let me interact with it. So if I want to pause the video, I can't or if it doesn't automatically start, I can't watch it. With games, it runs, but I can't click on it at all.

I have spent some time in photoshop. And I remember a useful feature in it, where Photoshop can tell you info about the image, by pressing on the properties or something. Photoshop can say what the picture was taken with (mobile / camera) and what date.
I run Ubuntu now is there anyone who knows a program which can do the same for Ubuntu? I can't find anything in GIMP

Adobe Air 2.0 has finally been released, has anyone tried it? It's supposed to support 64 bit systems now, but I still can't get it to work! When I download the .deb from Adobe's site I get a wrong architecture error message when I try to open it, and there doesn't seem to be a 64 bit version that I can find. When I go to BBC IPlayer it goes through all the instalation steps and I got Adobe Air and BBC Iplayer listed under Accesories in my list of programs. However when I tried to open BBC IPlayer it worked normally for about 10-15 seconds and then vanished for no apparent reason. I rebooted and now Air and IPlayer do not appear on the list of programs, although if I try and dowload a programme from the IPlayer website I get the IPlayer desktop up and working for about 10-15 seconds until it inexplicably vanishes again.

I've spent the better part of a day off working on this. I can't pinpoint the problem, either.I've removed *every* flash package in synaptic and installed:
File: /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so
Version:
Shockwave Flash 10.1 r53
I've rebooted, removed, purged, installed, reinstalled. rebooted. rebooted.I've tried flash-aid.If I remove ALL flash,..... correctly says the plugin isn't installed. If I install adobe-flahplugin, I get a black box where the video should be.The only thing that worked is installing Google Chrome...where flash worked on the first freaking run. But I'm really partial to firefox and this is kind of really POing me.What I would like to know is if Firefox 3.6.6 and Flash 10.1 r53 WORK FOR ANYONE or if I'm just wasting my time???

I spent 2 hours with Sam on IRC #Ubuntu and went through a very involved investigation of the problem. At the end, still no sound. The sound worked perfectly before the Adobe upgrade. To be clear, now have no sound period, no system sound, no playback sound, no sound online, offline, nada.I am running Ubuntu 10.04, which I don't want to update at this time. I'm running this OS on a desktop PC and have no idea what sound card I have.I recently installed a new ALSA mixer and have checked to be sure nothing is muted. I've read through a ton of posts and so far have found nothing that exactly solves this

After a lot of frustration with flash on Linux (specifically Hulu), I decided to do something instead of complaining. Hardware acclerated flash is the one thing keeping Windows on my system.
Please support GPU acceleration on Linux and vote for the following bug. Mac OSX has 1000 votes. Linux has 139. Let's show Adobe that linux is just as important as OSX.
