Jan 9, 2010I am running Karmic 64bit on a frankenstein desktop. I am using an old Creative Soundblaster card with the live drive front panel. Ever since I started using Karmic I have lost many functions, there are no bass and treble controls, and no other controls other than volume and balance. Am I missing some vital drivers?

Mar 5, 2010When I decode an audio clip which contain 5.1 streams (the encoding doesn't matter - or does it?) I cannot find an option which allows redirection of the lower frequencies (from front, back and center channels) to the sub woofer (LFE channel). I understand that this perfectly normal and this is how 5.1 supposed to work. My problem is that my speakers are not full range, so they cannot reproduce the bass in the streams. Which is described as: Bass redir - Bass redirection. Route basses from all channels to subwoofer. Works only if it is subwoofer at output speakers. Highly recommended for systems with separate subwoofer. Basses are routed before mixing so basses are shown at LFE input level (although 'real' LFE may be absent).
I'm aware of the enable-lfe-remixing = yes option. It works fine for stereo, but not for 5.1
I use ubuntu 9.10 and my pulseaudio version is 0.9.19. The player I use most is SMPlayer (version 0.6.8 (SVN r3213)) and AC3-liba52 for AC3 decoding. My system is up to date.

Jan 14, 2010Recently installed Ubuntu 9.1 following an easy how to. The install session went really well, smooth and only had one little speed bump when deciding which drive to install to (running raid and did not want to loose other partition). Like most speed bumps I got passed it. Ran all the updates then decided to start listening to music with Rythmbox Music Player. The sound coming out of my Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 was muffled and sounded like just the subwoofer was on. I checked all connections and they were fine. I tried looking for equalizer but did not find it and then noticed the sound was like a skipping record. So I looked it up and came across some posts that I could not figure out if they were for my problem. Seemed to me they were just leading me in circles.

Jan 25, 2011Running 10.10 and win 7 on my HP dv6-2150us laptop and I'm having a few issues.
First how do I get HDMI audio output to my TV? I think I have just a integrated Intel graphics card. It works fine in windows but I can't seem to get it to work in Ubuntu. I tried searching but couldn't find anything pertaining to this issue.
Ubuntu :: Bass Does Not Working - Fuzzy Sound In Natty
Aug 3, 2011I'm having a problem with my sound in the Natty Narwhal version of Ubuntu, where my bass doesn't seem to be working and is coming out as fuzz instead. I don't really know the technical terms for what I'm trying to describe, but instead of the deep part of a piece of music, I get this kind of v sound in the background instead. I get the same problem on headphones or from the speakers, and turning the volume up or down doesn't make any difference. Alsamixer tells me that my card is called HDA Intel, chip ALC272X. I've already tried turning down the PCA volume, as I've seen recommended in other places, but no luck.

However, i also have a usb 5.1 sound card which isn't working at all. Both devices show up in 'Sound Preferences' but when i select the 5.1 device as the output device sound doesnt work. Dec 18, 2010I'm new to Ubuntu, but have some experience with *NIX (specifically Red Hat and AIX.) I'm not getting any bass out of my 4.1 Logitech THX setup. The surround speakers are operating fine. I know that the bass unit itself is working because I was using it with windows on this computer before I made the switch to Ubuntu. If I run a speaker test from either the sound preferences or the terminal, the speakers work but the bass does not. I ran this command from a terminal to help with the diagnostic effort, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at:

Jan 1, 2010I installed LMMS 0.4.5 on my computer (Ubuntu 9.10), but I'm getting no sound output from the program on ALSA, and whenever I try one of the other options (PulseAudio, OSS, etc.) it reverts to dummy audio. I tried installing JACK to correct the problem, but JACK seems to be giving errors and quitting, and in the past I've always used ALSA for LMMS and it's worked just fine.The problem is local to LMMS, even after a reinstall. My audio output is fine for all other programs I've tested the problem for so far.Also, I just noticed that my instances of LMMS are not being terminated after the windows are being closed...

Jan 17, 2010I installed the vkeybd program to easily create some tunes, but when i push any of the keyboard buttons no sound comes out. I do have sound in programs like vlc. I thought jack and timidity may have something to do with it, but starting and clicking on things in those programs didnt get me anywhere because I dont have much understanding about them. How do I get a sound to come out of my speakers when i press a button in vkeybd?

Jun 9, 2011For some reason my soundcard is recording every playback sound. This become apparent when I was trying to make a Skype call and the other people couldn't hear me. I checked my sound preferences and noted that the input was recording what they say (they could hear an echo). Also if I played back anything it would redirect to them. This has never happened to me and I've made a lot of calls in the past.
I tested with Audacity and it records fine, but when I play back the recording, it redirects to the input channel so it's not a problem with Skype. (my soundcard is a VIA VT1708B 8-Ch). Somewhere I read that the output of aplay -l is useful.

Jun 19, 2011I have had a problem with none of the microphone inputs working after upgrading to Ubuntu 11,04 64-bit on my Toshiba A665 laptop with 4-core Phenon processor. This includes the internal mic, mic jack and Logitec C610 webcam. All worked before upgrading to 11.04. The broken mic input means no Skype calls.Today I noticed that there was an application called EarCandy that is suppose to add functionality to PulseAudio, so I installed it to see if the auto-detect features would fix my mic problem.
EarCandy completely broke the two apps I tested: Skype and RadioTray. Now neither will output sound. The Ubuntu start-up desktop sound scheme also quit. So it seems that EarCandy killed all sounds that heard while it was briefly installed.How do I get sound output back on Skype and RadioTray? how to fix my mic input issue?

May 6, 2010I have updated my Ubuntu to Lucid 10.04 from 9.10.
Although my sound disappeared in 9.10 only, I thought maybe upgrading might help, but there is no change.
I guess everything is installed fine.
But still aplay -l command shows "NO sound cards.. "
Moreover the sound preferences shows no hardware, no input and a dummy stereo output.
I have banged my head a lot trying various things written in forums and all but no success.
One more thing : When I test "osstest" , I get sound in both the earphones , but altogether there is no sound. I am very much confused.

Apr 10, 2010I would like your input please. I'm using an HP DV7 laptop and the sound works under Opensuse 11.2 but without base. I have therefore updated ALSA to version 1.0.22.1 to make use of the introduced base switch for DV7 (ALSA changelog here)
I have tried these ALSA options but without any change / improvement to the base sound.
options snd-hda-intel=hp-dv5 and also hp-dv7 and hp_dv7
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
Any ideas?
