Ubuntu :: Mount Launcher For Virtualbox

Nov 9, 2010

hi, use have ubuntu 10 as client on a windows7 comp. have used the "shared folder" options of virtualbox to share my external harddrive, the command:

sudo mount.vboxsf J_DRIVE /mnt/J_DRIVE

works. but when i go to make a launcher:
sudo nano /usr/local/bin/extlauncher
command: sudo mount.vboxsf J_DRIVE /mnt/J_DRIVE
sudo chmod +x /usr/local/bin/extlauncher

everything goes fine, but upon launching my launcher ubuntu doesnt mount my external harddrive.

adding
J_DRIVE /mnt/J_DRIVE vboxsf rw,exec,uid=1000,gid=1000,dev 0 0
to fstab also works fine.

do i need to create a launcher differently when i want it to contain a sudo command?

General :: Virtualization - Mount A VirtualBox .vdi Dis?

Jun 30, 2010

I am running Fedora on a VirtualBox. Sometimes to allow for performing some real hardware testing, I need to run my development environment on a physical machine. So I need the hard disk of the virtual machine (the .vdi file) to be interchangeably working on both the virtual machine itself and my physical PC by booting a bootable image, mounting the vdi file, and then chrooting to it.

Ubuntu :: VirtualBox Guest Attempts To Mount Shared Folders Twice At Startup?

May 1, 2010

Moved to virtualization forum: [URL].. I just upgraded my Ubuntu VirtualBox guest to Lucid. My host machine shares two folders with the guest. I have them listed in my /etc/fstab so they're automatically mounted:

share /mnt/share vboxsf defaults 0 0 For some reason, it looks like Ubuntu attempts to mount these shared folders twice. The first time, the mount doesn't succeed, but the second time, it does, so by the time I actually log in, the shares work properly.

Karmic would just print an error message at boot, but now Lucid makes me press a key to continue booting when the mount fails. Ideally, I'd like to figure out how to make the first mount attempt work properly. But if that's complicated, just disabling Lucid's prompt would make me happy.

Ubuntu :: No Taskbar/launcher In 11.04?

It seems as if I've really done myself in this time. I recently upgraded to 11.04 from 10.10.trouble (not showing titlebars after I had trie to enable the "desktop cube" feature) so I decided the best plan of action was to get rid of Compiz. That turned out to be a mistake. Now I have no launcher or taskbar, and since I'm somewhat, well, inept at this so far I have no idea how to get my desktop back in working order.e managed to install compiz and emerald once again, but I can't get to the startup application editor to make it run automatically. Is there a way to get the default desktop environment handler to kick back in?

Ubuntu Servers :: Mount A USB Drive In Rc.local With /sbin/mount And UUID Instead Of Fstab?

Feb 6, 2010

I run a headless Ubuntu 8.04 server, which acts as a web, email and file server. I am sticking with 8.04 as it is a LTS release and will upgrade to the next LTS when it is released.

I have two external USB drives, that I need to mount at boot. I have been using /etc/fstab up until now, with the following entries:

Code:

However, as I gather from doing searches is quite common, occasionally I get an error during boot (causing the system to drop to a recovery shell) because the USB drives take time to wake up and the system hasn't found them by the time it reads /etc/fstab.

From doing searches, it seems there is nothing you can do to fstab to fix this, so you need to mount them using an rc.local script instead, using:

Code:

The problem is, as I have two USB drives, their /dev/sdxx location changes between boots. I thus want to use UUID codes as I do in fstab, however I haven't found anything about this.

Does anyone know how I can use the mount command and UUID to mount a drive in rc.local and what options I have to use the mount the drive with the same options that I am using in my fstab entry? Obvisouly, I can't refer back to fstab using the mount command, because then I will still get the boot error issue if they are listed in fstab. And there is no space internally for the USB drives as there is already two internal drives.

Ubuntu Servers :: Mount Does Not List CIFS Mount Options On 10.04.2 LTS?

Apr 4, 2011

Linux box info: root@mytestbox:~# uname -a Linux mytestbox 2.6.32-30-generic-pae #59-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 1 23:01:33 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux

Windows box info: Windows Server 2008 SP2 Enterprise I've verified via --verbose output that mount.cifs is indeed processing the passed on options.

root@mytestbox:~# mount -t cifs //10.1.1.10/Test /root/testwin --verbose -o credentials=/root/testcreds,rw,nocase,noperm,noacl,nounix,noserverin o,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777

[Code]...

Yet, when I type mount all it reports is (rw,mand). The share works just fine, and I can see the masking (all files are showing as rwxrwxrwx as expected etc) but mount is not listing the options?!

Is this normal expected behavior? Is there a bug report on this? I've google'd to the best of my capabilities and could not locate any such information which is why I decided to hit the forums prior to filing a bug.
